Fish Oil Help, Please
Hi ladies: I've recently noticed my skin is getting saggy, dry.....think old lady knees. I've been on Tamox for 3 yrs for stage iv bc, had a hysterectomy and the best news ever, am currently NED!
I was thinking taking fish oil supplements may help my skin and has lots of other health benefits as well. What kind would you recommend? Is it okay to pick it up at Walmart or would a health store be better? I tried taking these once before and got those dreadful fish burps so I stopped.
Anyway, can anyone suggest what I should be looking for? Thanks!

Since my breast cancer diagnosis, I have been seeing a naturopathic doctor who has me taking a few different supplements one of which is an EPA/DHA Omega-3 supplement (basically fish oil). She stressed that it was exceptionally important to take a high quality brand of this particular supplement and she recommended "Ascenta Nutra Sea." I've not experienced any fishy burps or anything while taking these softgels. And I never realized it could be connected to this supplement, but since starting on my supplements, my skin has improved dramatically, to the point where family and friends have remarked on it. I always had majorly dry skin, particularly in the winter but not now. I don't know if the fish oil supplement is the reason why or if it is because of my hugely different lifestyle nowadays but perhaps the fish oil does have something to do with it?

My naturapath recommended this one - like Joy said - it needs to be a good quality brand

She told me a secret to not getting the burps - keep the bottle in the freezer. I take 1 first thing in the morning - wait 10/15 min. and then eat. No burps !

My naturopath has me taking "Carlson Norwegian Cod Liver Oil" which has a lemon flavor and is not bad at all. It is much more concentrated and gets into your body quicker than the supplements. He has me boosting my immune system prior to chemo. You might see if you can find it at a health food store.

Yes , keeping your FISH OIL Pills in the FREEZER ,,, and take when frozen .... and you will not be burping fish all day long
..... my Doctor gave me that hint when she suggested fish oil to help with trigs levels.....

I started taking Tykerb in addition to Herceptin in January and noticed my finger tips just splittnig and my hands were horribly dry. It has improved this condition greatly and I noticed my hair is much softer as well. I would not get the Walmart brand though. It is iimportant to get a well respected brand of supplements. My naturalist also recommended rubbing olive oil on the soles of my feet twice a week. This is a great way to get some EFAs too!!

I most diffently recommend taking omega 3, i started taking it about 8 months ago, before that my skin was dry and my hair was breaking off, then i started taking it and i noticed an improvement right away in my skin and my hair wasnt falling out any more, i quit taking it recently when i was dx with bc and noticed almost with in the week the diffence, i asked onco yesterday if it was ok to start taking it and she said she recommends that i do but to not take very much folic acid, i take puritans pride its the gelcaps and i have never had a problem with the burps,
Jennifer- i am going to put olive oil on my feet tonight, that sounds so soothing, just buzzed the rest of my hair off, i may put it on my head too lol

I couldn't do the pills because of the size of them. Someone here recommended coromega squeeze packs, and I've been taking them ever since. The orange flavor is quite tasty. I also use olive oil soap for showering. Say good bye to dry skin.

This place uses fruit extracts and olive oil and the bars do smell good enough to eat:

Olive oil on the feet!!! That sounds like a great idea. I put olive oil on my face. It is a great moisterizer.
How much of the omega 3 do you gals take? -
Wow, thanks everyone. I just knew I'd find lots out from you! Has anyone had any experience with Shaklee fish oil? I'm convinced that I need to use a high quality fish oil, I'm just not sure what qualifies as "quality".

Hi...
I had the same problem with the fish oil...my onc gave me samples of Coromega....Omega 3.
It's a squeeze packet...I get the orange flavor...it tastes like a creamcicle.
Hope this helps. The best price is online.

I only use the product from Vital Choice, and so do my mom and dad. I order online. They have plenty of literature on their site:
