Test: Breast MRI

Has any large sized woman with DCIS had a breast MRI and been injured in back and ribs by the MRI machine?  My surgery has to be postponed until my rib area heals. Any comments or advise?

    I hear you!  I couldn't get a breath in when they put me in there due to the machine being so tight.  It hurt my back.  They took me out again and took all the padding off and then tried again.  Hurt like a son of a gun but stood it and got it done.  I can't believe they can't make the machine fit the patient a little better- after all those machines cost thousands of dollars..... I am sorry to hear of your pain----- there definitely needs to be some thought put into this problem.  Peace and health to you.  Tami

    Thanks Tami for your input.  I began to think that I was the only person who had experienced this injury.  I told them that not every woman is a size 8.    At age 72 and just diag. with breast cancer I  now spend lots of time in constant pain in my ribs  Went to my family Dr and did not find any fracture but still lots of pain.  Maybe in a week or two I can schedule my surgery.  Thanks

    I am a very large girl myself and the MRI machine was not comfortable but the techs were super careful with me and they even did a "test run" before they did the iv, just in case it was too much. It was very tight for me but not so tight that I was injured. I am so sorry that this happeneded on top of your BC. I believe that there should be mandated training for dealing with BC patients simply because our situations are ususally so delicate anything added can really be detrimental. I was lucky to have two great techs doing my MRI at the Charleston Breast Center in SC. I hope you feel better soon.
