When are you considered cancer-free?

I can't believe that this has never been addressed on this forum, but I could not find an answer anywhere.  The reason I am asking is because I just had to fill out a life insurance application and they wanted more detail on the breast cancer, including "how long have you been cancer free?"  I told them that I considered myself cancer free after the mastectomy on 3.27.08 because there was no lymph node involvement, bone scans were clear and all labwork since then has come back OK.  I have never thought to ask my oncologist.  Anybody have an answer?

My onc and BS both seem to be counting my "cancer free" time from the date of my mastectomy as well. I had chemo and rads after that, but they still seem to be counting from the mastectomy date. So I think you're on target. Good luck with the insurance, and wishing you continued good health!

I do not know. I will never be cancer free, I may be NED, but that is not the same or is it?????

SOme life insurances want you to be out 5 years before they consider you cancer free. I am not sure.
