LCIS found then later ILC?
Hi,
I have just been diagnosed with LCIS. Have any of you been diagnosed with LCIS or ALH prior to being diagnosed with ILC?

I had ALH detected by mammogram 2 years ago but nothing has been changed during these 2 x years...the size has been kept the same...but after the surgery it says LCIS on the report. Yesterday an IDC 10 years survivor called me saying when her tumor was taken out, the doctor found some apytia cells surrounding the tumor...but the chemo/radio finally killed those cells now she's been NED for 10 years.

Cleo: I was diagnosed in Jan. 09 with LCIS (after a biopsy for calcifications which I had to push for). The BS had to go back in to do a larger biopsy but did an MRI to see if anything else showed up. Only a fibroadnoma showed up but it was close to the biopsy area, so I asked her to remove that as well. ILC (tiny) was found within the tissue of the fibroadnoma. It was a blessing to me as I had already decided to do bilateral masectomies. After the masectomies on May 7 there was extensive LCIS in the left breast and fibrocystic changes as well as atypical hydroplasia in the right. My breast surgeon explained to me how the breast goes "downhill for lact of a better word" and the hydroplasia is right before the LCIS develops (if I understood her correctly), so I'm happy with my decision. Best of luck to you.

I too had a fibroadenoma biopsied last fall and it was B-9. I have been wishing that they would have surgically removed it since I have been worrying that something might be hiding near or within it. I really appreciate you sharing your story with me. Having the LCIS close to my chest wall kinda freaks me out too.
Thank you for sharing your experiences.

I had breast reduction surgery that discovered LCIS throughout both breasts as well as ILC in the right breast.

cleo---LCIS is usually an incidental finding; they happen to find it when they are in there checking out other issues. It's uncommon to find it by itself, but I think they are diagnosing it more often now due to the improved biopsy techniques and digital mammograms. So many women with invasive bc may have had LCIS prior to their diagnosis, but didn't know it, but there's no way to tell. DCIS can go on to become IDC, but LCIS can become either IDC or ILC ( but the potential for becoming invasive is much much less for LCIS--my bs quoted me less than 5%--hence the reason they don't recommend radiation for LCIS). No chemo since it's non-invasive and clear margins are irrelevant as it is a bilateral disease (you would have to have bilat masts in order to "get rid of it all" ).
