-
Lucy...don't give up on yourself! We are all here to help you. Take a deep breath and try to take one day at a time. What meds do you need? You will be in my thoughts and prayers!

Do not give up and keep up the fight. You will be okay!
Now, you must have some sort of cobra insurance??? Did they offer you letting go pay??? Can you file for unemployment???
Listen, I work from home doing medical transription and there are a lot of companies that hire with full benefits. So, in the meantime, if you can get onto this site, take a look. It is the course I took to become an MT. I now work from home. It is great because you make your own hours and work your own schedule. I love it. It is great to work around family schedules, doctors appts. etc. There is good money in it too....eventually....once you get up to speed. It is definitely not one of those online scams or anything like that. I had been through too many of them.

If you have any questions email me. But do not give up! There is always a reason for things that happen and you may not know why this happened right now, but there is a good reason. We are all here for you.

Lucy ~ Did Kroger layoff a group of people, or have you been singled out for some reason? If the latter, or if you had seniority over others who were not laid off, you definitely need to seek legal advice. Sadly, it's not above companies to cut due to health care costs, and if by any chance you're a victim of that, you need legal help.
Also, one of the wonderful women on this site has compiled a list of resources for women who need help with their treatment: http://bb67.wikispaces.com/ Hopefully, one or more of the organizations on that list can give you some help now.
I'm so sorry this has happened to you, and I know you're in shock. But one step at a time, and I'm sure you can find a way to continue your treatment until you can find another job. (((Hugs))) Deanna

Lucy, you are not a burden. Please don't give up but check into the resources listed above. Remember when you first started this journey and how scared you were. You have come through it these 2+ years and so this is not the end.

Don't give up hope, hollyann. Have you tried contacting the Susan G. Komen foundation? You're probably eligible for medicaid as well. I know this is catastrophic news - deepest sympathy.
-
hollyann, most public libraries, and many other places have free internet access, so you can still come here for support no matter what happens financially.
Whatever you do, don't give up!
Target has tamoxifen for less than $10 for a month's supply, so you can probably still afford that on unemployment even without insurance.
There are other options like COBRA, and states frequently have programs to pay for care for people with cancer without insurance...my sister-in-law found out that the state program actually gave her better coverage at a lower cost than the insurance she had been on through her ex's job.
This is lousy, but you've survived lousy before, and you will get through this too. {{{{{gentle hugs and prayers}}}}}

Hollyann - I am so very sorry to hear this, what a rotten thing to do. Please take one breath at a time. It always looks darkest before the dawn. I am sure the State of GA has some sort of funding for your meds, checkups etc., and also contact your local number for the American Cancer Society - I know they will help. Keep you chin up, it will get better, it's just all been heaped onto you at one time and that is a devastating feeling. I will look into whatever I can for you and pm any info I find.
Hugs to you,
Linda

hi lucy,

I understand how this can be such a blow. Believe me meds can be bought for a lot less then you would think. Just do some research.
Also get some unemployment. And the library is a great tool to keep in touch. We are here for much more than the cancer card. Life is tough and there are many in the same boat.
My husband has been out of work after 20 years at the same place. We have Cobra, which is much cheaper now with the Obama plan. Also unemployment went up.
Most important thing is staying connected with others that are going through this , it helps. Your not the only one, so you won't be alone.
I will be praying for you.

Lucy-
You should be able to get unemployment. My son-in-law was laid off and gets unemployment for 18 months (I think).
You are strong. You sent me a wonderful private message some time ago when I was in a dark hour and you helped me by letting me know someone cared. We all care about you. You have already fought the toughest battle and you are strong enough to get thru this. You are not a burden....you are a caring person who reached out to me. I still have your PM. Things will get better for you. Right now you are overwhelmed but you will get thru this. Your ride is NOT almost over!! Please stay in touch even if you have to go to the library to use the internet. Check with the unemployment office and find out how to get insurance. There are programs out there. And most of all, please remember that we all care about you.

Hollyann just wanted to tell you about this site I found. It gives the phone numbers of many free clinics for Georgia residents who need medical care and cannot afford it on their own. I'm not good with links but the address is www.gfcn.org There are also many churches that have free medical clinics so could try calling some of the larger churches that may have this as part of their ministry. I would also explain the situation to your oncologist because drug reps often give doctors samples to give to patients and they may be able to cover you till something else comes about. There are also free food banks in almost all major cities and clothing centers as well. So please don't despair. Things will get better. You probably just have never been in need of help like this but it is very available and we can help you find whats out there. As for not being able to be on here that you can find for free too. All public libraries have computers now that you can use free of charge. You just use your card to sign in an walla you don't have to give up your favorite site. Its going to be ok, it just knocked you when you were already struggling with this diagnosis. God has placed to many people in your life for you to be truly alone right now. So just let everyone help and stop trying to do it all by yourself. This is a wonderful resource and I'm sure more ladies will come along with more ideas.
-
It is so easy to feel overwhelmed when something like this happens. In a few days you will be able to think better and take action. Everyone has posted many great ideas for you above, I hope they help. Your employer has to offer you Cobra continuation of your health insurance and now it is much cheaper if you loose your job (although not if you are married and you have the option of picking up insurance from your husbands job - that happened to me). Remember you have only 30 days to take the Cobra option. I am very sorry this has happened to you. It is so hard dealing with BC as it is, then it just seems impossible to deal with other life stressors as well. I hope things work out for you.
-
Lucy, (((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))
It is so depressing to be laid off, downsized, let go -- but you CANNOT take it personally. It is NOT a reflection on your worth. We love you, your family loves you!
Everybody has had good advice about checking into unemployment, all kinds of other support options...
You definitely should be eligible for COBRA, and you should be able to get your first 9 months of COBRA for only 35% of the usual cost:
http://www.gainsurance.org/PublicInformation/Alert.aspx?DI=257
Sweetie, hang in there -- using the internet at the library is a great idea -- I've done that -- don't leave!!!!
P.S. Lucy, that link has other insurance information specific to Georgia -- I hope it's helpful to you
-
HollyAnn I am so sorry to hear that news, the other ladies have already mentioned COBRA, I know it is expensive , I did it for 18/Mo's but hasn't president Obama placed a bill into law that the gov't is now picking up 65% of the cost for anyone laid off - please check into that.
If I recall - you have some SASSY red high heels, put them back on along with the attitude that goes with them, you'll get through this aand we are all here for you.
XOXOXOXOXO -Cathi

I don't know what state you live in, but have you applied for Social Security Disability? If you qualify, you can collect back to when you cancer started and also go on medicare which would help take care of your insurance dilema. Please check into this. There are many of us that are able to collect.

Go apply for unemployment, apply for medical assistance, and contact the ACS.
