Skincare for BC patients

Hi ladies, I have been on this site since January after the horror of diagnosis.   I came here for the information and support, this is the most wonderful site, and I come here and Lurk, more than I post.  During my Breast Cancer Odyssy, I have learned alot here and had some encouraging comments from many of you when I was so down and burdened with the fears.  I have since, adjusted to my situation, and know I/m in it for the long hall, which makes me concernerd about an issue that I know I share with most every woman, and that is Skin care during Treatment, and which products are going to feed my cancer, and which products are safe for me to use.  I am especially interested in this because #1, I have always been very caring about my own skin care,  #2, I was a pracitcing esthetician, in a salon, spa, and worked with clients with various skin skincare issues.  Since my diagnosis and treatment, I am no longer working in the field, but nevertheless am still a stickler for my own skincare needs.  So I went online and researched estrogen and paraban free skin care products, and found a list of which ones are safe to use for those of us who suffer from breast cancer, and I wanted to share this website with you.  I was happy to see that a familiar product that I have used on my clients in the was on the list.Kiss So here are the websites I found.

Shanagirl  - I am interested in this as well.  Everytime I apply makeup or mosturizer I think about what is really in it.  Thanks!

What is your favorite?  If you don't want to post it, you can PM me.  I have seen some of these brands at natural food stores and a local grocery store - Dr. Haruska is one I have seen.

Thanks!  At first I didn't see the links, but I did the second time- must have been after you edited!  Happy to know I am not crazy!

April,  When I found the list on the website I only  recongnized one product that I have used previosly and also worked with.  But my own regular skin care products were not on the lists.  So now I'm going to have to read all the labels and most likely dump them.  I was always very happy using my product as well as offering them to my clients. I'll be reducating myself now.

    Hi,
Thank you for sharing these resources with the group and spreading the word about healthy products for cancer patients. I'm a cancer survivor and cared for my father who passed away from colon cancer in 2007. I started a blog, www.cincovidas.com, that deals with the side effects of cancer treatment on the hair, skin and nails. I wanted to share a post I did on avoiding toxins and shopping for products during cancer and beyond http://blog.cincovidas.com/avoid-toxins-tips-on-how-to-shop-for-safe-products-during-cancer-and-beyond.
The SkinDeep.com is also a great place to learn about safe, non-carcinogenic products as well.

I hope that all of our resources can be helpful to everyone in this community.
    Love, strength and survival,
    Britta

I was "scent-sensitive" long before my BC diagnosis and have purchased fragrance-free skin products by mail-order from Paulaschoice.com for many years. She wrote the "Don't Go the the Cosmetics Counter Without Me" books. I especially like their moisturizers, body lotion and sunscreen. When I was bald from chemo, I used a very gentle "all-over hair and body shampoo" that they make. Last Dec. when the research came out about hidden (i.e. not on ingredients list) estrogen in over-the-counter products, I wrote to the manufacturers of all my favorite products and Paula's Choice was the only one that assured me that theirs had no trace of estrogen. Most of their products are available in samples for trying.
