It was a trip....but I enjoyed the drive. My job was very stressful.....so when I got off work on Fri I would turn up my CD player and just hit the road....lol
-
LOL I was in a stressful job too, I would come home, turn off my cell, take my phone off the hook and relax........then when someone complained about not being able to get ahold of me, I would say my cell went dead, it was on charge and my hubby was on the phone..he pays the bills, what do you expect me to do, tell him to stay off of it? LOL, worked every time!
-
There ARE those times.....I do the same thing with my regular phone. I don't have a cell phone now.....just because I don't wanna be bothered when I'm out and about.
I just don't have the time or energy for foolish, petty stuff anymore.
-
Well I have my cell but it's cuz the DH works where he's a refrigeration maintenance man, if nothings broke, he's bored, so we text back and forth thruout the day, he works 7 days a week, second shift so it's nice to be able to talk to him. Otherwise I wouldn't have one either...
-
Hey Bold..congrats, nice to hear good news! Seems like everyone is moving along, and that's great..me too 6 of 28 today.
-
Hi Radettes....
Wow...lots of chatter...love it!!!!
I had RAD #14 today and now I am down into the TEENS to go....(19 exactly) Still doing great and no symptoms yet....crossing my fingers...and speaking of fingers..I had my nails done today ...I have acrylic nails and my nail gal noticed that my middle fingernail is lifting...so DAMN it ..I thought I would just lose my toenails...DAMN CANCER and CHEMO.
Bold...congrats on getting the job..and a special celebrity person to work with! Now I know why your avatar is so cool....you must have done it yourself!
Chelev...the rad docs have an obligation to meet with you at least once a week...and to make you come back is absurd. You are a tropper...I must say.
ivorymom...great picture of you!!!
kt57...remember I live in California...Or Califlower as Arnold calls it.
lisalisa...You have been through so much already..geeze..another operation so soon?
Bkokie....Bcareful...and eat before you go next time!!!
Deb...sweetie...it will be similar to the simulation...no worries...
Happy HUMP DAY Radettes....

Good Evening Radient Radiators,
There certainly was a lot of chatter today. lt took me forever to read through the post.
Genia and Deb I don't live far from you guys. I'm in central Kentucky so I feel like we're in the same region.
Wow Bold I feel like I'm chatting with a celebrity. Congratulations on your new job.
Lisa Good luck on you next operation. I considered a hysterectomy but my BRACA was negative and my cancer was triple negative. The Oncologist said I was no more likely to get ovarian cancer than the general population. But, a good friend of mine was recently diagnosed with ovarian cancer and it is much scarier than breast cancer. I have mixed feelings about not having the surgery.
Well 6 down 27 to go. So far so good. Which is encouraging for a fair skinned gal.
This is so much better than chemo.
-
Deb, the first treatment was little scary --- esp walking through the 12 inch lead lined door... with thoughts of Hiroshima and Chernobyl in my head - totally irrational! The first was just another defining moment - one that made this seem all too real. An "OMG I have bc" moment. The rest have been ok.
My rad onc techs are all young too -- charmingly so. And I am glad they have young eyes, cuz I know I couldn't do all the measuring they do, using dot sized tattoos - in a dim room to boot.
Bold: Cool!!
Cruise: sorry about the nail. Mine are partially connected... weird! Thanks goodness for nail polish.
19 of 30 done - it's going fast. A little retail therapy today (yes, rads are expensive) ....two pairs of shoes and a pair of sandals-- good for the spirit... and the neuropathy in my feet
.My best to all you radiators.......
-
Wonderful Bold!
Today was Rad#14/30. The machine went down so I had to take a break, ended finishing on a separate machine. I'm starting to look sunburned on neck and under arm and reconstruction. My arm swelling is way down and it shows up in my wt. At the Rad clinic I was 164.5 lb on friday when the swelling was bad and 160.1 today (same scale).
Lisa it sounds like you're feeling good about your decision to have the big h surgery. I'm not there yet, but am already in chemopause big time with hot flashes and achy stiff joints, menopausal hormone levels, and also had (using past tense!) a highly ER/PR+ tumor so will discuss with my GYN too.
Not so ready to think about tamoxifen yet, but will fill Rx when Rads are over. Would love my hair to come back a bit more first!
C -
Hi, everyone. #16 went without a hitch. Just 10 more regular ones to go!
Cindy - I drove back to see my onc because that is the one time he's up at the location I get my rads, otherwise, it would have entailed leaving work even earlier and heading an hour down to the main cancer center. If he were up there every day, I would have just sailed on home, believe me! Sorry about the nail lifting - I know you were hoping that the acrylics would help preserve them some. I haven't had any nail issues, but who knows if that would have developed if I had gone the other two rounds? It seems mine are just starting to grow, must be the biotin I'm taking (cause the hair sure is taking it's sweet time).
Lisa - that's a big decision to make, but once its over, you won't have the added worry about making estrogen and having potentially other issues. I had a hysterectomy at 28 (I'm 46) for endometriosis, and we left one ovary in, and just that one ovary not only developed horrendous ovarian cysts, but it brought back the endometriosis in just 7 years - and I had to not only get it removed but undergo more endometrial scraping and removal. So, I've been dealing with full-on menopause since 1997, and trying to treat hot flashes (and extreme dryness, if we're being frank) since then. Only time they really ever went completely away and everything in happy land was fine was unfortunately when I was on estratest. Darn it all!!! Looking for a natural, non-pytoestrogen relief for both, but doesn't seem to exist.
Bold - congrats on your new commission! Love to see your work!
-
Lisa, good luck with your surgery. I had my hysterectomy a year before my BC diagnosis, otherwise I'd be making a similar decision.
Cruise: I've lost 4 fingernails and all but one of the others are slightly loose. My hands aren't the prettiest, and the new nails have funny humps on them, but I figure they'll return to normal in time.
Today is #20/33. Getting very tanned and tight, and for the first time in my life I've got some freckles.
Weird coincidence: I finish rads on June 23rd. I was diagnosed on September 23rd. 8 months to the day from diagnosis to the end of treatment.
-
11 more tx's to go then I am finished. Just when things to begin to get uncomfortable they re-mark me and start zapping some place else! Thank you very much.
Congrats on the BIG job, Bold. Now see what BC has gotten you into....it is a long and winding road.
maja -
Thank you kindly for you congrates! (Not a real word)
Lisa Yikes huh? I am glad you feel good about your decision. I was wondering why have some women developed E+ cancer after having Hyst. The endocrine system is very complex. I have been peri-for 14 years I thought I was full on menopausal. I already went thought the hot flashes night sweats and furled brow. Then my onc told me that we would discuss ooph after rads. Well I got to say my Pathology on my tumor (now way gone.) was only 2% pos estrogen so I think that it is extreme to treat it. I am going before the tumor board to get another opinion at a different facility. I believe that my bladder fell during chemo. I no longer pee straight down grrrr. TMI?

Sorry about that chief!
A quick story. Yesterday on the way to Rads. I got a blow out on my front tire.
It was a mess anyway called the City if Hope were I go. They rescheduled me for 4:45. Nice. Then I got two new tires and made my appointment in Beverly Hills. Then only had 1 hour 45 mins to make it to Duarte in traffic. I am biting my nails worrying (glued on with crazy gle). It is raining and thunder and lighting as well. The traffic is bumper to bumper typical LA. I feared the worst that I would not make it . My Cell phone rings. It City of Hope they are having a power outage and had to cancel me. WHEW........
So I missed one and now my calender is all off with the big count down. Anyway the adventure continues. I sure feel better everyday that chemo is behind me. Come on hair 7 weeks and still nothing real. But life is good.
One more thing. My SIL a real wonderful lady. Had heaviness in her chest and pain in her jaw. A friend made her go to the ER. She is now scheduled today for a triple by-pass surgery. GULP! I thought maybe I could solicit some prayers. I am sure she will be fine but prayers have been prove to increase your odds. Thank you very much.
-
Bold, of course wishing all the best for your SIL. That's scary surgery!
And what providence that City of Hope had a power failure! But turning around after fighting all that traffic must have left you a little frazzled. But then, I can't imagine navigating Beverly Hills traffic even in the middle of the day.
As for menopausal women getting ER+ tumors, I think it has more to do with the fact that ER+ tumors tend to be slow more growing. They probably started much earlier.
-
Morning Ladies...
Had # 15 and only 18 more to go.....yeah...almost halfway...While on the slab they had a computer reboot caused by all the lighting storms we seem to be having here in Northern CA. So I had to lay still for at least a half hour while they rebooted the computer. Still no SEs and happy to see that. Met with the Rad doc and lost 1 pound...YEAH...
Bold...where do you get your strength...my goodness a tire blowout of all things. Glad it didn't cause an accident for you.
Carolyn...yeah...you are almost done...only two more weeks for you.
-
Well Crack, wish me luck, todays my first, least I think it is....LOL, let ya know when I get back!
Hugs and luv!!
-
Deb - good luck! It's going to be a piece of cake compared to chemo!!!
Texas - you probably right - those of us with estrogen (98%)+ / progesterone (97%) + more than likely had our tumors start a long time ago - it makes perfect sense for me, anyway, since I've had estrogen health related issues for almost my entire life - stage IV endometriosis, fibrocystic breasts, ovarian cysts, recurrance of endo after hyst., etc.
Bold, you really had a fun day! Glad it worked out - I've been stuck in BH traffic (stupidly tried to get somewhere during rush hour in the summer, tourist season!! and turned down the wrong road), so what a relief!! Sorry your count is off - isn't it funny how we count on that number?
-
Estrogen is produced `as well by other organs (such as the adrenals) not just by the ovaries/uterus so that is why there is still a chance of recurrance, and how they are growing even if you are in menopause, or whatever.
It is a common misconception that having a hysterectomy/oophrectomy will stop all estrogen production. It does not.
-
>Hi everyone, went for my first rad treatment yesterday, I was scared silly. It really was easy, very easy once I got a grip on myself. I am tired today after 11 hours of sleeping, think I was stressed out. I was just reading that we should not be taking certain vitamins while undergoing rads. Do any of you know of this. I really need D and am on a very heavy dose. I will ask today. May all of you get through this nightmare and enjoy your summer.
-
Hi Justannie - - it may get easier still. I can now (mostly) breathe normally when they tell me to as they leave the room...
I received an appt. slip for June 22 from my PS - - we made that plan about 8 months ago, just before chemo, when we thought I'd be all done and about a month out from Rads by that time. I think I'll keep it still to keep the process moving along. I really need a mastoplexy/reduction on my remaining breast, as well as some pretty up of the reconstruction. Maybe they could start with the contralateral breast. I really want to be more symmetrical again.
Rads #15/30 today, so essentially 50% done except for boosts to high risk areas; those will be included in my last 15 treatments. Happy almost Friday Radiators!

-
Well went today and it was nothing but MORE MEASUREMENTS! AND MORE X'S ON MY CHEST! I now have 6 of them...The doc assured me though that Monday wouuld be the first treatment.....I just wanna get it going and get it over with.......

-
Facecrafter,
I'm aware that estrogen is produced elsewhere (and stored in fat). Just trying to reduce it as much as possible! I'm young (ish), have young kids (10 and 6) and have no issues with a full hyst if it gives me better odds of living!
so.....I'm doing the hyst and going to be working like crazy to get my BMI down too!
-
Hello everyone! #10 today. Speaking of estrogen, has any of your doctors told you that if you are ER+ No "Soy" or "Soy Lecithin"?
Everything I look at has soy in it. Even tuna. I'm lactose tolerant and have been drinking soy milk for years.Soy thread: http://community.breastcancer.org/forum/78/topic/734688?page=1#idx_5
another one: http://community.breastcancer.org/forum/78/topic/726535?page=1
Watch your gel vitamins also. I checked my calcium last night and it to has soy in it. Guess soy is being used as a filler. Anyway read your labels. No vitamin A, D, or E. D3 is okay with Calcium.
Are any of you taking Cucumin aka Tumeric? I read on the internet that it helps prevent radiation burn. I started taking it twice a day about three weeks before starting treatment. Guess I'll find out if it really works. I also use what the rad on says to use for now "aloe gel".
Have a Good Friday & Weekend!

-
I am 16 days into radiation. I have 36 sessions including boosts. I finish July 2nd.
Will I be ok to have surgery the following week (July 6 or 7)? I plan to have a hysterctomy and I'm trying to squeeze it in between my vacation schedule and my doctor's schedule.
So far, my rads are going well. I'm a little red and a little itchy but that's it.
thanks for any input! I'll aks my rad onc too.
ETA: i need to have another breast sugery (phase II of my DIEP) but that must wait till months after rads so that i can heal. I'm trying to spread this all out and yet finish this up this calendar year. we've met our insurance deductible at this point, so it's all "free". don't want to pay out of pocket again next year!
-
Hi Radiators,
Justannie -- my understanding is that D is one of the few vitamins that is ok to take. But, it will be good to check with your doc.
Deb from Ohio. I felt like the preparation took forever too. I was so relieved when we finally got started. You'll feel better Monday.
Well I had number 7 today. So far so good. But, it is just a bit past one week for me.
Bold I'm glad I'm a small town girl. I don't think I'd like fighting traffic in Beverly Hills, flat tire and all.
I hear you Lisa. I'm working hard at loosing more weight, and vamping up the activity. Even triple negatives seem to do better with a low BMI. It reduces recurrence by 50%. There is nothing else left for me to do at this point so this is one thing left that I have control over.
-
lisalisa: I had a hysterectomy 10 years ago at the same time my sister had hers. Mine was done vaginal, hers was cut open. I was back to work in a week. She was out six weeks.
Recooperation depends on how it is done. If you can get away with the vaginal one that the way to go.
-
Hi. I am down with 7 tx, 21 full breast to go and 5 boosts. I hurt like crazy yesterday and the techies said the swelling was bad. I tossed and turned last night and then when I went today, I felt much better and the nurse suggested I take aspirin to cut down on the swelling. Doc said he is very happy with my progress and doesn't see any problems with the expander so far. I hope it lasts that way.
-
Good luck Jess. My techs and doctors are starting to tell me I look like my TE is painful but it's not that bad. I'm just anxiously counting the days until I reach the finish line. #21 of 33 today. I finish my 8 boosts the end of next week then start on the regular treatments again.
-
lisa - you should be fine to do the hys right after rads, unless you are having any severe rads se's that might make you uncomfortable. I say, get it over with and get on with the healing!! Will you be on AI's after treatment? I don't have the appointment yet, but will be meeting with my medical onc once I am finished to start the aromatase inhibitors to prevent any estrogen from being produced anywhere.
Yes, those of us Estrogen+ have to stay away from soy. Bummer too, I really enjoyed soy products, especially those crunchy soy nuts!! We have to be careful of a lot of things - I've too found soy in surprising places.
Well, today will be #18 - only 7 more regular treatments after that, and then on to the boosts. The onc nurse examined my skin yesterday and said it is holding up really well. I've got the best tan just on that side. She said I might start peeling, but it doesn't look like it will - maybe my light olive skin (thanks, mom and all Italian relatives!) is helping, or it could be that I slather on aloe like a maniac (hint for newbies . . .let it DRY before you put your shirt back on . . . eiiwww if you don't), or maybe I'm just getting a break. Whatever it is, I'm happy about it!! Some more swelling in the breast area, it's really tender, especially when I lay back or on my side and try to get up, but it is worth it. I can see the end of this treatment road!! I have been taking advil or tylenol back & body, which is tylenol/advil mix and really helps.
-
Oh my, I've been burning the candle at both ends and have missed reading postings for a few days. So much has happened to you all.
Bold Congrats on the job! Good things can came from hardship for sure! I will say some prayer for your SIL. My very good friend just went through the same thing. She thought she was having problems with her thyroid meds. She was shocked and scared, but now tells me she hasn't felt this good in years. I guess we all need the blood to be circulating to the brain and body!Glad you weren't hurt in the tire blow out.
LisaLisa I don't think I could face more surgery right now, you are brave and strong.
I'm going to drink the same amount of soy milk I drank before BC and I'm just going to do everything in moderation.
#13 yesterday, so far so good. I met with my surgeon for a six month recheck, gee I can't believe it's been six months already. It seems like yesterday and then it seems like this has been going on for years as well.......
Well rad girls, have a great weekend! Cream and rest!
