I was 39, 2 weeks before my 40th birthday. Felt the tiny lump last year but doc told me he was not concern, but I decided to remove it in February, then came the Oops. Lumpec a week later, Just had my first chemo this week.

I was 40. My first mammogram that I had to PUSH my doc to order for me, and guess what? Cancer found. Thank God that I pushed the subject. I am amazed at how young everyone is. I just had my one year mammo and I am currently waiting my results.

I was 48, with a 2 and a half year old, when I was diagnosed with high grade/necrosis/ER-/PR- DCIS in December, 2008. (Actually, was misdiagnosed as borderline ER+/PR+, changed after I insisted the tissue from surgery be checked for hormone receptivity, too). Found during routine mammogram. Did not appear on previous mammos. Docs said it was fast-growing and probably just started in the last year.

I was diagnosed in Feb 2009 at age 68. I too have noticed a lot of younger women on these boards. But that can't be because older women are not being diagnosed; I would guess it would be because I know a lot of women my age and older who don't get on the computer the way I do. I work on the computer every day and then I'm on the internet. So that probably makes a difference.

45, dx 1/30/09 - triple neg. IIa, 1 node outta 24.
Hey Jaimeh! I found my lump on Xmas eve 08 - we had a bad, bad day
-
I was 46 years old.
There is alot of effort underway to figure out why so many women under the age of 50 are diagnosed. Pretty scary.
I make sure I eat the non-hormone added milk, cheeses, chicken, and beef (when I eat beef). Who knows if that has something to do with it, but I do not want my 21 year old daughter putting extra hormones into her body.

I was 47 at diagnosis this April after the last 7 years of mammograms not finding anything. Mine was not caught on routine mammogram. My dog's had to find it by jumping on a spot on me that hurt, but thanks god for my dogs!

I am newly diagnosed and am 62.Healthy as a horse.Had mammos every year since 50.This year enlarged lymph nodes showed up on mammo.Haven't started treatment yet.
-
i was 23 (24 now) when i got diagnosed this past March, had this visible lump above and to the right from my left breast and went to have it checked. Lymph nodes haven't been affected, and they caught it early, but yeah... incredibly unpleasant to be dealing with the complete set of two surgeries, rads, and chemo and having to wait 2-3 years to have kids
-
I was diagnosed last July at 63 and I have just turned 64. I have had clear mammos since a scare in 1986 with a fibroidaenoma (sp?). Yes, CLEAR MAMMOS for 22 years and I found a lump in the shower (3.5cm) and then an MRI showed another primary in the same breast in another quandrant two months later. BS said both cancers had been there for many years, maybe 7 to 10 and never found, even on diagnostic mammos.
I feel very lucky that I am still here and "only" stage 2A with it being there so many years. In September I am having a digital mammo for sure. Maybe an MRI too.

I was diagnosed when I was 28 and I'm 29 now. I found the lump when I was 27 and had an ultrasound but it was dismissed as a fibroadenoma. A year later, it more than doubled in size but my doctors reassured me it was most likely benign. Good thing I had it removed because it was the cancer! I just finished chemo and am enjoying a break before rads start
CollegeGirl - I have to wait about 5 years until I can try to have kids. I feel your pain

I was 46 when diagnosed. I was told I had calcifications in Oct. 2008 but they looked like the b9 calcifications I had two years prior. I still wanted them biopsied but waited until Jan. for insurance reasons. LCIS was diagnosed in Jan. and ILC was diagnosed in March. May 7 I had bilateral masectomies with te's. I currently am fighting an infection so fills cannot happen, in fact we may have to have the te's removed, get rid of the infection, then start over later. Disappointing but I did get rid of cancer!! Have to still deal with whether to get the ovaries out as my cancer was estrogen and progesterone positive, but at least there's no chemo needed.
Chunkies: So sorry you have to deal with this so early in life, but THANK GOODNESS you had the lump removed. Always follow your heart. The radiologist wanted to wait 6 months and re-do the mammos to look for changes before biopsying, but I have always been more aggressive than that--boy am I glad I pushed for the biopsy! Hope you are doing well.

24 when I was diagnosed...25 now...go figure, diagnosed months before my wedding! Got to wear two different wigs on the big day! Young ladies...I feel you, my husband and I are waiting 3 years as well. Tamoxifen stinks...

I was dx first time at age 56. The second time I was 60.

I found my lump 2 weeks after my 42nd birthday and got the confirmation of the diagnosis a couple months later. Took some time to see my gyn, then mammo and US and then to the breast surgeon. I'll be 43 in December and looking forward to many more birthdays!!!
-
I found a lump at 37, turns out the lump was nothing. They saw 2 cysts on other breast, come back in 6 months (then and now 38) I did. Stage llla, ILC, IDC, DCIS, 7 positive nodes. Within 6 months!
-
I was 43 when Dx in May. I am 44 now. I have 23, 18 & 11 year old daughters & a 9 year old son.
No family history. Lump had been there for years, they told me it was nothing, when I got the second lump, out they came. It is a good thing I yapped to have them removed.
-
43 when my very first screening mammo caught something last October. All done with chemo and now on herceptin.
-
I'm 60, diagnosed this July, when this year's mammogram looked "different". 4 rads down, 26 to go.
-
I found it around my 49th birthday - some present, huh?
-
Mine was diagnosed 3 months after my 50 th birthday.
-
41 - only one in my family, too.
-
I found the lump 2 wks. before my 62nd birthday in the shower doing BSE. I had my lumpectomy within 2 wks. and then radiation for 6 weeks and now am on Arimidex. Only had pain requiring pain meds the night of surgery and 1/2 tablet following day. Karen

I was 45 when diagnosed this past spring. No BC in my family. Mammogram showed suspicious calcifications that turned out to be DCIS. Had an MRI that showed two other areas of DCIS. Fortunately, they caught it early - it was DCIS (Stage 0) - but it was the most aggressive form of DCIS (grade 3). Unfortunately, it was pretty widespread and the BS wasn't able to get clean margins even after three lumpectomies (the surgeon can't see the DCIS, so can only go by what showed up on the MRI and the markers/wires placed by the radiologist). Ended up getting a BMX (chose to have the right side removed prophylactically) - definitely more than I originally anticipated. I had TEs placed at the time of the BMX on June 30, and am very happy to have had my exchange surgery last Wednesday - I finally feel that I'm nearing the end of this terrible journey.

Dx. at age 48. Felt my lump in July 2010 and parted company with tumor on Aug. 16th with lumpectomy. Just finished rads. Waiting to begin Tamoxifen.
