Kari...make sure the lotion you are using does not contain mineral oil, petroleum or petrolatum....doesn't do anything for your skin...actually causes it to dry out more!

C0Q10, also known as ubiquinone, is found in every cell of your body.  It is absolutely essential to the process of cellular energy production.  It's also a powerful antioxidant.  Research has shown that CoQ10 levels are much lower in tumors than they are in normal tissues.  When CoQ10 has been given to cancer patients, some spectacular results have been seen.

Lisa, that new picture is simply FABULOUS darlin!  Thanks for the coQ10 info, I will get some and I will check my lotions...I recently switched to a different brand and OMG, I get itchy red patches all over my body, so that has to be the culprit.  Just used an oatmeal scrub in the shower and my skin feels really good right now.  Its a product for my face, but I thought what the heck, has to be good for my body too!

Got back from a 50 min. bike ride out there and it felt so good to sweat in the heat.  I really took notice of the sounds of the birds, etc. and I found myself smiling!  Soooo toxins out...good mojo in!!

I'm going to look into some zumba dvd's too.

Had a great day yesterday, my firstborn turned 20!  I always let my family pick their birthday dinner and he chose Asian inspired food.  So I spent all morning in the kitchen cooking! LOL  We had a great time celebrating.

Then I was up until all wee hours of the morning closing out my month!  What a riot!

Today starts my summer zumba schedule...still six days a week, but seven classes now.

     Make it a great day!

Lisa, you look wonderful!! No way that hot woman has a 20 year old! :)

Kari, I was telling my husband about your and your car named "Bev" and that I was a pourche!!! (I can't spell!) He was impressed! :)

I am glad I am not the only RADS person with tightening tissue. Deanna, I have a lumpy area too, hard, I think a scar line, but wierd. Let me know what your PS says...

I typed up this recipe for Mandy on another thread, but thought I would share here! Mandy,

Banana Bread with dates and nuts. Sugar free, (and can also be Fat free!).

    • 2 1/2 cup flour (I use organic, wheat, mix flours for multigrain, etc)
    • 1 cup Agave nectar
    • 1 egg or egg subst., etc
    • 3 1/2 Teaspoons of baking powder
    • 1 tea salt
    • 3 tablespoons veg. or olive oil, or melted butter, or applesauce (I use applesauce for fat free!)
    • 2 cups mashed bananas

Optional: 1 cup dates, 1 cup Walnuts, 1 cup granola, etc. (I often use all three).

350 oven. grease 3 loaf pans (9x5x3). Mix ingredients, pour into pans. Bake for 60-70 minutes, until toothpick comes out clean. Cool for 10 min, then wrap to keep moist. Can freeze!

Hi ladies--happy June 1st! I love reading about everyone's lives. Joy, the kayaking sounds amazing. Being on the water is so soothing and peaceful. Also am glad to hear you have a dog--they are great companions. After I finished rads we adopted a one-yr old Lab. He is such a dear and is very good at reminding me that it is time to get off the computer and get outside! There is a good 2.3 mile loop near my house that we go on--after he's done running after the ball of course! And...he name is Beemer!! (It was actually the name he came with, we just decided to keep it...) Now I will have two good references for that name--vivre's bike and the brave pilot.

I just ordered some vitamins and am looking forward to taking the CoQ10! Bring on the energy...

thanks Lisa for the external detox. I will try that. I have always been leery of the internal detox...but maybe you can tell us more about the one you use.

Spring--recipe looks yummy. Remember though that fat isn't the enemy! (Of course too much 'bad' fat isn't good...) Olive oil is great and egg yolks have great nutrients in them.

Also, I am laughing hearing all the weather references--as it is 55 degrees in San Fran right now!! It's been cold and foggy for the past week so I have the fleece and down vest on. Ha! I actually don't mind all that much as I hate muggy weather--grew up back east so am familiar but could stand some sunshine. I know if I drive in any direction about 30 mins I should find some sun...

    Hi ladies!

Spring, printed out the banana bread recipe (banana bread is my favorite), it sounds really good.  I've never bought Agave Nectar before but have been wanting to, so this will be a good use.

AllieM22, I'm from Sunnyvale (Silicon Valley), I always love visiting San Francisco, you never know what you will encounter there...one part of town nice and warm and another the fog is whipping by you and you are freeeeezing!!  Now I live in the Sacramento suburbs, and it gets hot, hot, hot...well not quite as bad as Deanna's area, but we sure get it here.

Lisa, the asian inspired dinner sounds yummy!  What did you make?  I've really never made any asian dinners but I love it!  Maybe I'll learn something from you.  Your firstborn is no longer a teen!  Its so strange to say they aren't teenagers anymore!

Well...I've made a great discovery!!  Right behind where I work there is this beautiful ravine oak studded rolling hill trail system.  There is a brand new park there...anyway, I didn't start there but drove half mile behind some other offices/movie theatres and started at that trailhead and walked for 30 minutes!  I remembered my coworker telling me about that trailhead a long time ago.  It was so beautiful, I stayed on the paved path which meandered through the oaks and by the river.  WOW!!  I didn't realize that trail system was there!!!  Luckily its 76 out currently as we are having a cool spell this week (sorry Allie) and will only get to the 80's so I was able to walk outside during lunch today.  So happy...Cool

Okay ladies, below is a funny. It is NOT TRUE, of course, but given our focus on health, exercise, eating right, etc., I thought I would share. This cracked me up!!!

Q: Doctor, I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life. Is this true?

A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it. Don't waste them on exercise. Everything wears out eventually. Speeding up your heart will not make you live longer; that's like saying you can extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer? Take a nap.

Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables?

A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies. What does a cow eat? Hay and corn. And what are these? Vegetables. So a steak is nothing more than an efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system. Need grain? Eat chicken.. Beef is also a good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable). And a pork chop can give you 100% of your recommended daily allowance of vegetable products..

Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake?

A: No, not at all. Wine is made from fruit. Brandy is distilled wine, that means they take the water out of the fruity bit so you get even more of the goodness that way. Beer is also made out of grain. Bottoms up!

Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?

A: Well, if you have a body and you have fat, your ratio is one to one. If you have two bodies, your ratio is two to one, etc.

Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program?
A: Can't think of a single one, sorry. My philosophy is: No Pain....Good!

Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you?

A: YOU'RE NOT LISTENING!!! ... Foods are fried these days in vegetable oil. In fact, they're permeated in it. How could getting more vegetables be bad for you?

Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle?

A: Definitely not! When you exercise a muscle, it gets bigger. You should only be doing sit-ups if you want a bigger stomach.

Q: Is chocolate bad for me?

A: Are you crazy? HELLO Cocoa beans! Another vegetable!!! It's the best feel-good food around!

Q: Is swimming good for your figure?

A: If swimming is good for your figure, explain whales to me.

Q: Is getting in-shape important for my lifestyle?

A: Hey! 'Round' is a shape!

Well, I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about food and diets.

AND...for those of you who watch what you eat, here's the final word on nutrition and health. It's a relief to know the truth after all those conflicting nutritional studies.

    1. The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

    2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

    3. The Chinese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

    4. The Italians drink a lot of red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

    5. The Germans drink a lot of beers and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

    CONCLUSION:

Eat and drink what you like. Speaking English is apparently what kills you.

So Silly, why is that cracking me up???LOL LOL LOL

Here is another funny...and then I'm off to Zumba!

    Giving Up Chocolate

I was walking down the street when I was accosted by a particularly dirty  and shabby-looking homeless woman who asked me for a couple of dollars  for dinner.

I took out my wallet, got out ten dollars and asked, 'If I give you this money, will you buy chocolate with it instead of dinner?'

'No, I had to stop eating chocolate years ago', the homeless woman told me.

'Will you use it to go shopping instead of buying food?' I asked.

'No, I don't waste time shopping,' the homeless woman said. 'I need to spend all my time trying to stay alive.'

'Will you spend this on a beauty salon instead of food?' I asked.

'Are you NUTS!' replied the homeless woman. I haven't had my hair done in 20 years!'

'Well, I said, 'I'm not going to give you the money. Instead, I'm going to take you out for dinner with my husband and me tonight....'

The homeless Woman was shocked. 'Won't your husband be furious with you for doing that? I know I'm dirty, and I probably smell pretty disgusting.'

I said, 'That's okay. It's important for him to see what a woman looks like after she has given up shopping, hair appointments, and chocolate.'

Thanks for the jokes. Laughter is the best medicine for sure! And Kari, I loved the story of your DD wedding dress. I will never get that experience. I only have sons, and they seemed committed to bachelor life.

I took the beamer for a ride in between rains today. We have a 2 mile track at the park, so I did 5 laps, but my butt got really sore. Beamer needs one of those cushy seats. One bad thing about losing all the weight, I lost my padding! LOL

speaking of butts, I have to get off mine so I can take my Beemer (dog) off for a walk before I go to yoga.

    have a great day everyone!

Lisa - what dvd do you recommend for the zumba? I am fairly active (walk and kayak), not over-weight and use to teach water and step aroebics (sp) years ago. I need to get active and moving  so I don't get too lazy. I am also 57. All the help is appreciated. I go to a yoga class once a week if I am not working too.

Allie- wish I could send you some of my weather. 11am and already 83 and very sunny. It has rained inland but not on the coast. Sea breezes are taking the moisture inland. Doesn't bother me any.

Everyone have a great day. Going to walk the dog once more (walked her at 8 when it was cool) and then off to work for night shift. I am off on Wednesday but have to get my car inspected and shop for vitamins so I won't feel so lazy.  And then yoga in the1 PM. Need to mow my yard but the heat will wear me out. Let it grow. The clovers look very pretty!

    That was funny Lisa!

Vivre I used to do spinning and had some sort of gel seat thing. But I remember when younger my butt would eventually get used to it! Heck, I am having trouble right now getting used to sandles / thongs  with that thing between my toes!

Did the eliptical crosstrainer for 45 min today. It was a great sweat! Toxins dripping off me! LOL!

Kari, your daughter sounds beautiful, inside and out! Just like her Mama!!!

Joy, it is HOT here in NC today! Whooo! Stay cool !!

So Beamer and Beemer get you off your butts and work your butt off...but then Beamer gives you a bum butt...LOL!

Walked again last night but my legs are sore.  That bike ride on Sunday did the trick!!  I have been trying to get my legs toned again...I guess it will take some time.

    Have a great day!

    Kari great video!

Joy, there is a set of 4 DVDs...which is a great place to start.  That is what I started with.

Kari...I have my zumba students doing a new squat routine.  They come in whining the next day that they can't walk.  I just tell the, "Walking is high over rated!"  Squats are great for the legs!

Off to my Dessert with Divas.........

    Make it a great day!

Lisa, Squating is the key isn't it??  ok...will do the duck walk (you know the squat walk) thru the office, heeeheee, just kidding, but I will have to start doing some.  Hey Dessert with Divas, sounds fun!  what is that exactly, a little club??

I've already reacted to a couple of situations here at work differently because of that video my dad sent!!!

I walked again at lunch after eating. It was so beautiful, took the trail behind our office and it branches off and you can head in different directions...so I picked the direction of Stone Canyon Drive, and it was exactly that...hills and these beautiful homes (they were huge) in a neighbordhood bordering parts of the trail...passed ducks in the creek/river (whatever that waterway is) and turkeys, birds, runners, walkers...it even lightly rained at one point!!  I LOVED it!!  That hill coming back up at the end sure burned my legs and elevated my heart rate!!  our new house we live in now is in a flat area, when we lived in our previous house, it was in the rolling hills.  So its good to change it up I think!!

Spring, thanks for the sweet compliment! Wink

Good job ladies on sweating out those nasty toxins!!  Stay cool!  My sister in law wrote that it was around 130 degrees in Abu Dhabi the other day and she is praying for anything under 110!!  OUCH!!

ROFL...Kari I just pictured you walking through your office like a duck!  The routine I have them do is to the song Boomin by Toby Mac...we do squats the entire time.  At one point near th end, I have them hold it in the squat position.  I told them when I'm done with them, they'll be able to "sit" at their dinner table without a chair for the entire meal!

Dessert with Divas is a party I do for my other business.  We have a blast...I make all the ladies wear feather boas and I teach them how to pamper themselves!

    Off I go........

Kari ~  I loved the video, too!  Such beautiful photography!  Thanks so much for sharing it.

I had the nicest experience yesterday.  I've already made one really good "in person" friend from these boards.  Well, yesterday the two of us got together over smoothies with another gal we recently "met" here, and I have to tell you, there is something so unique and cathartic about actually meeting and talking about our bc journey with other women from BCO.  Gail and I had also gotten together back in April with two other gals from our August 08 chemo thread, and we also had the same instant bond.  Anyway, if you've never done it, and if there's anyone near you, I really encourage you to reach out and make the connection.

Oh, one really strange coincidence from yesterday -- even though I'd never met her before, the gal we got together with has a daughter who went to school with my 26 year old son -- same class and everything, and it's a really small, private school.  And, even though there were only 32 kids in that graduating class, so far 3 of the Moms have had bc!   And one other classmate lost her Mom to another type of cancer, which just seems like a surprisingly high percentage to me.     Deanna

I did get off my butt, took the dog out, went to yoga and came home and crashed--too many lunges! :) I need to do some squats too! But it felt good--I just got back from another walk with the pooch. My Beemer is a good boy--good company and a sweet face! I may try to sneak in a mani pedi...but first I want to watch the video. Oh and we finally had sun today so a beautiful day!

Deanna glad you got to connect in real time with someone from here--I find connecting here is so great--besides just learning a lot!

Woohooooooo....just got back from my follow-up visit since treatment ended.  I met with my Onc's PA, as he ended up out of town.  Worked out great...as I like her very much.  She is a very forward thinking person.  Agreed that I really didn't need tamoxifen in light of everything I was doing.

Anyway....my tumor marker test was great.  They look for anything above a score of 38 and I was a 21.  So now I'm free for another three months! LOL

Zumba tonight and then another party!!!!!!!!!!!  Woohooooooo

Great news Lisa! I go in July, the same month my daughter turns 20. And your son just turned 20 this month. << insert Twilight Zone music here>> !!! LOL. I also plan to make a list of all I'm doing, what I've changed, and bring a list of supplements I'm taking.

Today DH and I did the "park loop" twice before work, so that is 4.25 miles. Boy, we were wet at the end! It was only 8AM when we finished, but it was already getting warm! It was really beautiful!

I have also started doing arm weights at my desk while on conference calls! Just needed to move the weights up here in front of my nose. It's great! I've been feeling the burn! Now that summer is here, we want to wear these sleeveless things, and I wanted to be a bit more toned and buff in the arms! :)

Deanna, how wonderful to meet in person some of these wonderful ladies...I have never felt such an immediate bond with another person as I do with BC "sisters".

    Hi ladies, finally checking in.

Lisa, your Dessert with Divas sounds like such fun!!!! and GREAT news from your dr. visit!!

Deanna, I am so happy about your "in person" encounters with bc sisters from this site.  I think that's so special and wonderful!!  Maybe we will meet others when traveling, etc., who knows, since we pretty much cover the U.S.

Spring, that is a loooong walk before work!! woohoo!

So I was at the drs today for 3 hours.  Onc visit (protocol for clinical trial)...she is ordering a bone scan after discussing my seeing a PT for the hip pain.  She doesn't think its anything but doesn't want to take any chances.  She also recommended 3 PCP's to choose from that are accepting patients.  Had my 4th MUGA scan and my result was 60%, which was good.  Also had lab work and EKG (normal).  My AST is 2 points above normal, which has me a little worried, I will discuss it tomorrow with my nurse at my Avastin infusion.

Also, thanks to you ladies I asked my nurse (while waiting for my EKG, she came looking for my results so sat and chatted) about getting a bone density test (I don't qualify for the bone trial) and she said absolutely so that will be ordered as well.

Got a bike ride in last night (my legs are so sore), and with all the walking I did today between parking lots, up and down stairs and between buildings, I am going to my DD house after work to watch Bride Wars.  Should be fun!

    Oh...what's a tumor marker test?
