*So... what are you doing this coming holiday?*
It's almost Memorial Day weekend 2008 ... and I am meeting w/ my mom in Punta Cana... can't wait to see her... last time was at Christmas.
Any plans for your long weekend?

hugggssss, Lilia--my plans aren't quite as exotic as yours! We'll probably end up with a house full of kids/grandkids; get the boat out; do some BBQ; (Assuming we can go a day or two without rain and that it warms up considerably!!)
Where are you staying in Punta Cana? The DR is high on my next-to-go-to list! We went to Jamaica in Feb for our anniv so have been thinking DR for my BD/and Father's Day next month! Have a super trip--and give your mom a big hug!!!!

Junieeee! Hey girl... so good to see an 2003 girl.
We are staying at Catalonia Bavaro Beach Hotel; this is my either 4th or 5th trip to Punta Cana (can't remember - LOL); an island easy to get to, great people, and still not too expensive. Love the all inclusive as I am all for relax time! I w/ give you my feedback upon my return... may be I will even post a photo or two; I know mom has her laptop and the internet service works....
Have a wonderful weekend. Hope you and your family are all doing just fine.

Lilia, My hubby is going with his mother to their weekend family reunion in TN, I am staying home (NC) for my family reunion combined with my grandmother's 95th birthday on Saturday. We are expecting 35 family members traveling from Ohio and California for the birthday party with a total of 55 people attending.

I am being very patriotic and going to Arlington National Cemetery to "visit" my husband's ashes. I will take roses and pick the petals off one by one: I miss you, I love you. And I will share roses with others. I cut the stems very short and remove all thorns before I get there.
3 small flags are stuck in a big flower pot on my apartment patio. And the "uniform" of the day is red//white and blue, including my flag socks with spangles for the stars. Flag scarf around my neck. Flag pins on my blouse. Even my undies are red/white and blue...
As the widow of a veteran, I am allowed to drive my car into and around the grounds, otherwise you take the tour bus or walk. I stop and offer prayers when I get to the "active duty" section, which often has many young people and children - more so than the other areas.
yes, I will cry and feel sad, but I will also rejoice in the remembrances of the 33 years of marriage I had with my George.

OMG lefty... U just made me cry... what a beautiful "thing" u do/did for your husband... I bet he was/is looking down at you and smiling away. I really thought a lot about all the veterans this year and was so glad to ear our President urging us to remember all veterans... I gave a contribution towards the veteran sitting at Walmart w/ the poppies,... have it hanging in my car on my rear view mirror. I just showed your post to my husband, he loved it too... he would have been married to his first wife 33 years too this past Friday if she did not passed away almost five years ago (brain mets after BC) next month.
Sheila... how was the grand get together? Everyone showed up and than some more? Hope the weather helped as for me I was quite wet!!!!!! But the sun did come out and kissed us!
Punta Cana, never mind the weather (which by the way extended from way before Charlotte, NC to Punta Cana, DR and than some more), was just wonderful. It even included a grand flood! Holly molly... first time for us in any island! Mom looks wonderful and I always have a great time with her... two peas in a pot!
I guess now it is on to the next Holiday, July 4th... no plans here yet... probably hubby is working which kinda "cuts" my legs short!

We had a wonderful time Saturday. It was overcast but the rains held off until everyone had left. My mom and I got to the church picnic shelter at 2:00 to put the table cloths on the tables and set up for the food. We picked up the food (KFC) around 4:00 and ate at 5:00. Everyone had a good time. We only had 2 small 'accidents' on the play ground (14 children under 15). My mom and I left around 9:00 pm (and it was sprinkling then).
Monday I spent watching a 2 dvd set on the attack at Pearl Harbor, my son watched part of it with me and was telling me about the buildings that are still standing on the base. (he was stationed at Pearl) And I watched programs for and about vets on the Pentagon Channel.
About July 4th, my hubby will probably be working that week also. I may take a day and drive to Asheville to see Earleen.

Hi Sheila: actually I forgot... before July 4th we have Father's Day! Any plans? Hubby is driving me nuts regarding a particular grill! I am making an early dinner for hubby, his son (who is also a father), his daughter and mine. Should be a nice fifthsome!

well, trip to Dom Rep for bd/father's day on a back burner!!! MAYBE a couple day gambling jaunt to Tunica for some r&r...or maybe not. For sure, have kids/grandkids booked for the 4th--looking forward to that! DH and I have a blended family of 6 kids between us, supposedly adults now! (and, GASP!!! 8 grandkids!!!!) We've been together for 15+ years and can honestly say that sometimes I'm not sure which kid belongs to who. We have been so blessed with those relationships. Sometimes his kids call and want to talk to me--sometimes, my kids call and want to talk to DH. If none of DH kids can make the trip for Father's Day, I will plan something special just for him...... hmmmmm, maybe I should ask all those kids to kick in some $ to take dad on my trip!!! LOL!!!!
love hearing what everyone is planning for the next holiday/celebration!!!
