Okay...so you all know about be and my zumba...back in October, shortly after I was diagnosed, the news crew came in and did a segment on us, called Games People play. They didn't now about my diagnosis at the time. Then this past April, we had a Zumbafest. Thanks to my contact at the news station, she sent me copies of the clips and my son uploaded them to youtube....so if you want to see crazy me...in October...still hair and then in April...new hair growing back...check out these links!

Wow, Lisa! You are soooo talented! I had looked up Zumba on youtube when you first told us about it, but I wasn't nearly as impressed with those clips as I am with yours! My DH (who dislikes the time I spend on here) even stopped to look at them and seemed impressed. I am so glad that you shared them with us. Honestly, you need to do your own videos! Deanna
-
LOL...thanks Deanna! I'm not sure if I have enough time in my days to do my own videos! LOL
By the way, the guy in the first video...that's my hubby!
-
Lisa,
awesome, thanks for passing them on. (Your husband is handsome)
-
Lisa, can't wait to check out the videos after work tonight, youtube is blocked by our sonic wall at work. Too bad Zumba is so expensive out here or I'd try it!
Had a really really nice massage last night, no exercise though...will do something tonight.
Patoo, just wondering, what are your hip issues? I'm seeing a PT right now trying to strengthen one hip and loosen the other one.
I see hot weather over much of the south/east and lots of wind. We are finally going to be in the 80's today, I am not quite ready for that hot hot stuff yet.
Have a great day!
-
Lisa, how fun! you are a celebrity!
-
Lisa, I haven't seen the videos yet, but will later! Walked again this am, and the Warrior Woman Yoga class tonight!
Was at a conference with work, did not drink soda, had a veggie wrap rather than processed meat, ate the apple and threw out the cookie after one bite! Not bad!
Spring.

kfinnigan - I've had hip problems for many years. Just started on glucosamine chondroitin/msm again which gave me amazing relief in the past but now occasionally getting a ping. Could be the arimidex. It's only my right hip. I have never in my life been able to sit on the ground cross-legged like everyone else; cannot put my right foot up on my left knee. The widest I can open my legs, or spread my knees apart is about at a 75 degree angle (I know TMI but it's to show that I have no range of motion). At least 15 years ago an orthopedic doc said I would eventually need hip replacement but the gluco took away the pain.
Okay, I'm going to hit the treadmill for a little.
-
Lisa, just checked out the videos on a commercial break (watching American Idol finale now). Great stuff!!!! I have to say, you and I would get along just fine, two peas in a pod as far as shaking our booties! haha
Patoo, sorry to hear that you've had the hip problems for so long girl! The visual about not being able to sit cross legged really helped me understand, that really sucks. Hopefully the walking doesn't aggrevate it too much, but I'm sure moving is good for it also....
Spring, what willpower you had at the conference!
I went to watch a friend's son play little league for about an hour, then home for a quick bike ride before dark and my exercises. My friend told me another friend of hers was just diagnosed with colon cancer (that makes 3 friends with cancer in less than one year)...but her comment was that she can't believe how good we all look and asked me a lot of questions. The other 2 both have colon cancer. Although I HATE hearing about another cancer case, it does motivate me to do my best at keeping this beast from never coming back!!
Good night sweet ladies!
-
Well Kari you would probably love the new routine I just started. I have them shaking parts they didn't know they had! LOL
Doing some shopping today and then Zumba tonight. More work in the yard tomorrow. Giving my body a short break! LOL
Make it a great day!
-
Lisa, I watched your videos! You cutie! Go woman, go!
Made my heart smile.
We did the walk again this am. 15 miles so far this week. But I did NOT want to get up. I think I need to mix it up and do something else. And there is a 2 week Yoga break! :O
Spring.
-
Lisa and Spring, you both make me smile! I think a break is in order!! I did not want to get up this a.m. either! Stayed up too late last night...Another beautiful day on tap in the Golden state.
Have a GREAT day!

Spring ~ We're pretty much in step midweek -- 16.03 for me as of this a.m. I just finished a quick 3.3 miles (in something like 35 mins.) b'cuz I have to see my onc this a.m. Can't wait to see his reaction -- eye rolling? maybe an audible groan? -- when I tell him I'm basically opting for running shoes and I3C in lieu of Femara. Should be an interesting appointment... Deanna
-
Deanna, great walk!! Can't wait to hear what the onc says...
-
Kari ~ Much to my shock, my onc was actually supportive of me not doing Femara! He was interested in what I'm doing in place of it, and he was obviously in wholehearted agreement with the exercise, probably because there are published articles to support its benefit. I just posted some of his comments on the "natural girls" thread, and since so many of us are on both threads, I won't repeat them here. But I was blown away by his reaction. Deanna
-
Kfinnigan, I just wanted to also answer how do you get a bone scan test. I know women want it for avoidance of bone mets, but I got mine because after I finished chemo and because I am post-menopausal, the onc put me on an AI called aromasin. The other two are femara & arimidex. These post chemo drugs are to help avoid a recurrance of BC, but they leech calcium out of your bones causing osteoporosis, etc..over time. Then before the onc puts you on an AI he usually does a bone scan to get a base line of where you're at. Then you usually have to take a bone enhancing med (biophosphates, like Zometa) to deal with the side effects of the AI (bone loss.) At least that's why I go my bone scan. Glad to see everyone is doing so well on this thread. Way to be ladies.-Debs
-
Thanks ladies for the explanations. Deanna, I will check out your post on the 'natural girls' thread.
Didn't get any exercise in yesterday, sigh...worked late and then hubby got home (insert more excuses here, haha)...today will be a better day.
Have a great day and a wonderful Memorial Day weekend! I'm psyched, I get to see my younger daughter this weekend!!
-
Walked again today, so I think I am at 17.5 so far this week, Monday - Friday. It should be 18.5 but one day I ran out of time and skipped the last mile!
Deanna, great on your onc!
I am going to report in to mine in July and tell her about my diet, exercise and supplements. She may actually roll her eyes, we'll see. I am on tamoxifen as well, so maybe she won't! LOL.
I read somewhere that the exercise burns off any extra glucose floating around (sugar) which feeds cancer. I just know all this moving is good. My body feels great.
Deanna, 3.3 miles in 35 minutes! Were you like jogging???
We do 3.7 miles in about 65 minues, and we're not just strolling along!! You and Vivre are like speed walking!!!
I need to focus on arms. I want to get back into sleeveless shirts and my arms could use some tone-ing. I am writing this hear so maybe I will do something about it!!!
We will be gone this wkend to move my older daughter into her DC appt, as she has an internship there this summer! It is very exciting. I can't wait to explore! I'll bring the pedometer with me and keep track of the steps!!!
Spring.
-
Spring, my son did an internship in DC too. He left a conservative midwesterner and came home a bleedin liberal!! I sent him to learn, not to be brainwashed! LOL
I got my new bike today. Now if my DH will get off the golf course and put it together, I can go for a ride.
-
Vivre,
She will be working in the National Low Income Housing Coillition. She does not have to start until June 1, so she will have a week to explore! I am glad we will be there with her for the long wkend!
What kind of bike did you get??
-
Spring, best of luck with moving your daughter to DC! That's terrific. I hear its a really cool place. The National Low Income Housing Coalition sounds very important!!! I'd like some 'hot' arms too, heehee
Vivre, YEAH, you got your new bike!! Just in time for a long weekend. What color is it? Hot pink? haha. Your comment about your son coming home a bleedin liberal had me laughing!!
-
Spring ~ Have a great time getting your daughter settled in DC. FYI ~ I have a niece who just finished her masters at GW School of Public Health, and just landed a great job with them, so will be staying on. I doubt your daughter will need you to make connections for her, but feel free to PM me in the event my niece can help in any way.
Well, I had my first mammo today since last year's dx. I didn't feel at all stressed or emotional beforehand, but when they gave me the all-clear after a brief wait, I couldn't believe the relief that swept over me. I honestly felt like crying, but settled for hugging the tech who gave me the news. So, after the thumbs up from my onc on no A/I, and a great mammogram, I feel like a kid who's just been let out on the last day of school! Yippee!!!!!!!!
Have a safe & fun holiday weekend everyone ~ Deanna
-
Congrats Deanna I am still waiting for my june onc appt to hear about the mam I had last week.I still want to get rid of the other breast to lessen this stress.
I have been lazy this week ladies but promise to get back into the gym next week.
-
Have fun moving your daughter Spring...there will be some exercise!
I worked in the yard all day again...moved more mulch, planted some herbs, cleaned off the deck from the winter weather....and took the night off from zumba. Getting ready to head there now. Then will come home and plant the garden and then my daughter and I are off shopping.
I meet with my onc on June 3.......it will be a quick visit!
Make it a great weekend!
-
D.C. is absolutely one of my favorite places to visit. Hoping to get a little garden work done this weekend myself. Diet strayed a bit the last few days, but the weather has been great for walking. DH and I have alternated between talking or taking the ipods, notice we go faster when just listening to music. Plus, the restrictions were lifted a bit by the PS feels so good to be weight lifting and rowing again
-
It's a beautiful day here today! DH is putting my bike together so we can go for a ride. He is not even playing golf today. (before you think he is really giving up something, he played yesterday and is playing again on Mon) LOL I need to start playing golf again. I love the game, but can't play with him because he takes it so seriously, typical guy. I just like the walk and the scenery! I am a descent player, but I just do not care about the score. It drives him crazy!
So I have done my little bit to bailout you CA. girls by buying a CA bike! I love it! Wish I could figure out how to post a pic.
-
Did 2 miles last evening. Waiting for DS to wake up to go to sculpture park which is a lot of walking but just reading your posts I think I will go for a quick walk now until he's ready. Thanks for this thread as it does make me get up and get moving.
-
patoo- where is the sculptural park? My ds loves that kind of thing (art student) and will be home for the summer next weekend.
-
EWB, it's called Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton which is midway betw Princeton and Trenton. 35 acres of great sculptures, over 250, by all different artists, established and emerging. Maybe we'll see your DS's work there one day!
http://www.groundsforsculpture.org/collect.htm
It's really an outside museum that is impeccably maintained. No picnics, no smoking and children are not allowed to climb. It's very peaceful and not crowded. If you go be certain to go into the visitor center at the entrance and view the short film on the history first.
-
Oh, so back to "Motivation" - walked the sculpure park yesterday for about 3 hours (which probably only covered 2/3's of the entire park), non-stop - I think that counts for getting my exercise in.
May walk with a friend today and if she doesn't go, I'll still walk.
