Hi Tracy:  Know you're now 2 days out.  In a couple of days things will improve.  I had bilateral masectomies on May 7 and things are improving pretty rapidly--I'm pretty pleased although mourning over the body changes and having some discomfort with the te's.  Anyway, hope you're doing amazingly well.  If you're not yet, you will be!  Let us know.

Hi everyone Thank you for all your lovely posts, just to let u know I could not have the Mastectomy in the end I had a high temp and they thought it was unwise to do the whole thing.  Anyway I did have a Sentinel Node dissection done as I was there anyway. I did notice that you all have had more than 1 node removed she only took the one sentinel node is this normal?  And will this be enough for her to tell if cancer is in there?

I now have a new date for the Mastectomy May 28th so we are on again.

Tabby I am so glad to hear that you are doing a lot better and feeling well.  I aways look out for your posts as your cancer seems very similar to mine. ( well I think and hope it is will know more after I have had the bilateral Masectomy next week). I am also hoping like you to be able to avoid chemo.

Tracy--the sentinel node can be just one, or sometimes, as in my case, it is a group of two or three nodes that are first to catch anything coming their way from the location of the tumor. When there's only one, it serves the purpose.

    Good luck with your mast.

Tracy; I also had only one node taken. I can only assume that if there is no cancer in the sentinel node they feel no more are needed. I think it also gives us a better chance at avoiding Lymphedema, a very good thing to miss out on.

I thought my recovery from the one step alloderm reconstruction was surprisingly quick. Hope yours is too. I felt such relief at having the surgery finally over, I was almost giddy.
