over-reacting?

I'm worried and wondering if I am over-reacting.  I had my annual mammogram 6 months ago and it came back "probable benign", and was told to recheck in 6 months.  A month or so after that, I noticed a small spot on my breast.  It looked like a healing bruise.  My thought was that I must have bumped into something.  But the spot didn't go away, it is spreading down toward my nipple.  I got an email about IBC, and got a little concerned.  I finally went to the doctor and she said it wasn't IBC, since IBC has a lump under the skin.  She said it might be a fungus and prescribed an anti-fungal cream which has done nothing.

Last week, I discovered my nipple had a bit of discharge (dark green/brown colored), and also had my 6-month recheck for my mamm.  Again, they say "probable benign" and come back in 6 months.  I've called my dr back and she has ordered bloodwork?, and scheduled to see me in a week.  I have no other symptoms.

What would bloodwork show?  Should I insist on more tests, or am I over-reacting?

    ddillard:

With the thought of IBC you are not over-reacting this is a very aggressive type of bc.  Not many doctors have ever heard of IBC.

Everyone's symptoms of IBC are so different in my case I had a normal mammogram even though I had a small lump along with what looked to be dermatitis on the outside of my breast.  I had a biopsy of this area taken that is how I found out that I had IBC.

IBC does not show up on mammograms and you do not need to have a lump for this type of breast cancer.  As you stated above that the prescribed anti-fungal cream did not work.  The only way to get the correct dx of this is to have a biopsy.

If she ordered a bc tumor markers which will show if the markers are either in normal or abnormal range.  Right now I am having chemo brain moment and cannot remember what the correct name is of the blood test.  I would request a MRI of the breast and a punch biopsy of the area where the spot is at.  The sooner you know what it is the faster you can start the correct treatment.

I know that other IBC's will chime in on this and have some more great suggestions of what to ask for.

Praying that this is all b9.

    Hugs

Make sure the biopsy is of your skin that is bothering you.  I agree with Laura- there does not have to be a lump with IBC.  You need to stay on top of this, and don't let them "placate" you.  As Laura said most DOCTORS have not heard of IBC.  Best of luck to you, Tami
