I have just learned that amytryptyline can cause heart problems in some patients and I was recently prescribed this medication for my neuropathy.  I have my next herceptin infusion at the end of this week I am just wondering if anyone had no problems with herceptin and heart issues and if they started amytryptyline and then had a low MUGA score after taking these medications together, this could be the dumbest question, but I am now terrified of my next infusion.  If anyone is taking both with no problems could you let me know please, I am really afraid now.  Thank you.

That's the first I've heard about the amytryptyline and heart problems. I took amytryptyline for years for an overactive-bladder condition, including throughout ACT and herceptin infusions. I did have a drop in Muga, from the mid 60s to the low 50s, but never low enough to have to skip treatments. About a year ago I tapered off of amytryptyline because I was sick of taking drugs, and my bladder seems fine now. No problems so far with my heart either. Good luck ...

Hi I am on herceptin since 2004 and amitriptyline for about 8mths now. I am only taking 25mg mainly for nerve pain due to bone mets prob in spine & hip. My LVEF has fluctuated quite a bit over the last 5 years froma high of 68 to a low of 42, but as I had no other symptoms my onc allowed me to continue. It tends to stick around 56 so I am hoping I don't get a drop with amitriptyline added to the mix.
