Lisa,,,,,,,,,,,,just out of curiosity,,,,,,,,,,,,,how much biotin did your onc say to take. Ive been taken 1000 mcg per day.
-
cinrae - she didn't give me an amount...she said any "hair/nail" formula would be good! i'm going to see her again next week. so, i'll check them out and follow up if i need more info!
-
Lisa,
Did your doc say why not to use the Nioxin? I have been using the Nioxin all along and I think my regrowth is VERY slow.
Lisa
-
Hi Lisa,
It wasn't my regular oncologist, this is an integrative oncologist that I see sometimes. While she is a medical dr, she is focused on more "alternative" or "complimentary care" i.e. supplements, other therapies like accupuncture, etc.
She thinks the biotin is safer (just a b vitamin, really). She doesn't really think the nioxin works and she is careful about toxicity.....and to be honest, I'm being very careful about what goes on my skin/scalp, etc.

Spring, you are totally rockin that short do. Do you plan to keep it short? You look so adorable!
I have been trying to blow dry mine and curl it. It is hard to do with so much curl and I am starting to get that mullet look. S.O. is waiting for me to break out with "achy breaky"! I guess it's time to get another trim, although I am hesitatiing. I hate this stage and plan to let my hair get long again, just need to get past this stage. I am so hoping, the longer it gets, the more relaxed it gets.
Hang in there girls

Lisa1964 - Do you live in PSL or Ft. Pierce? I am in PSL. Where are you getting your treatment at (or are you finished with treatment?). I didn't notice where you were from earlier on - sorry about that!! It's nice to have a PSL sister in all of this!!
I have to stop staring in the mirror every day to see if anything has grown overnight!! It's only 4 weeks out from my last tx but I am getting impatient, even if my wigs are nice!!!!
-
chelev - I am also checking the mirror every day to see if any hair is growing, and I am not quite two weeks out!!!! Do you have any brows/lashes yet?? I am so impatient, and I hate my wig.
-
Nodapearl - Hi. I never lost the lashes and brows, luckily. My brows are a little thinner, but I've always filled them in with pencil/powder anyway. I too hate my wigs, even though I need to wear them for work, can't wait to take them off at night!!
-
What is the situation with coloring your hair after chemo? I was just surfing and I read something that said you should wait around 6 months??? Something about the dye stunting hair growth and irritating the scalp... I was thinking of coloring what I have in about a month, just to give it some oomph! I plan on going out without my top in public for the first time on the first weekend of June (we have a huge group camping trip planned and no way am I wearing a wig camping!!), but wanted to give it a little life. Spring-I remember way back you talked about henna (sp?), how did that work out for you and when did you use it?
Here's my growth , it's still fuzzy.
9 weeks out.
Sue
-
Sue I have hair envy
-
Me too!! That's incredible growth for 9 weeks out. Did you use anything to help it along? Jaimieh, how far out are you from your last tx?
-
I had to do chemo twice, so I lost my hair twice. But I wasn't totally bald on my last round (Taxotere), so that is helping right now I guess. I did have several bald spots, and most other areas were very thin. The bald spots are finally filling in since last week. I just wish I felt I had as much as everyone says I do, so I can ditch this wig! I started using Biotin shampoo... but that's about it.
-
I'm at 9 weeks out too, and my hair looks nothing like that. I will be so happy when it does.
-
Chelev~ I will be done on Monday so I am not even done yet but I am looking to see how patient I need to be...lol..... It's not a strong point of mine.
I have some hair but it's white (I had blonde hair) and it has been growing (slowly) and filling in since TX #4 but you can't see it until you are directly next to me. At this rate I will be coloring it so I will not be in a hat/wig for the next year. I tried to take a picture but it was evil looking.

Hi ladies,
I picked up Nioxin System 2 plus the follicle booster and scalp treatment over the weekend. I kind of freaked as I got red and itchy around the hairline from the follicle booster. It only lasts about an hour though. Hopefully it is working.... grow hair, grow! I am two weeks out and can't wait to get rid of my bandanas and hats. I tried wigs, but just couldn't get used to them.
Susan 13: 9 weeks, wow! Your hair growth is awesome for 9 weeks!
-
I have 5 1/2 months growth, but...it looks like everyone elses 8-9 weeks. Herceptin and arimidex don't help.
-
Susan,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,that is a lot of hair for 9 weeks out of chemo. Saweeeeeeeet. I had finished chemo in aug. 2007,,,,,,,,,and by Jan 2008,,,,,,,,I didnt even have 1/2 inch worth. Of course I did herceptin til May 2008 and they say that slows the hair growth down,,,,,,,,which I totally believe. Where do you get the Biotin shampoo? Is that what its called?
I started doing accupuncture,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,have had 6 treatments so far,,,,,,,and I swear,,,,,,,,,I feel lil hairs coming thru. Even my gastro md said he sees new lil hairs. Maybe its just our imagination or it was time to come out anyways. Who knows,,,,,,,,,but they are peeking thru.
My hair came back but very thin. There sure is a lot of different things out there that people are suggesting to do. I get confused after a while. Hard to know which way to go.
Good luck all
Cindy

Cinrae - I bought Biotin today....a bottle that said for hair/nails. from whole foods. It is 5000 mcg per tablet. It cost $14 or $15 and has 100 pills in it.
-
Two months from last TC x 6. There is more hair on the sides and back but mostly blond fuzz. I'll try a different photo as to not scare anyone.
-
Renee - that's about where I am now, except I have my dark brown hairs mixing in with (ugh) lots lof bright little gray ones, and some downy looking hair around my facial hairline that I was excited to see. Of course, the gray ones are sticking straight up, taller than the rest! I am exactly 4 weeks out from my last TC.
I am going to call my onc's office today, I am still dealing with the breakouts/pimples or whatever they are on my scalp - the vinegar has been helping some, as is the fungal cream, but they are still popping up and it's two weeks, so I figured its time to ask them what to do. Of course, because it is a weird side effect, it has to be on me!!
-
susan13 - I heard it is ok to color you hair if you use a semi-permanent color. I guess it washes out after 20 or 30 washes. That way it won't be so hard on your hair.
-
Blake - I am at almost the exact same point as you. I started using Nioxin last week. I have noticed some fuzz. don't know if its the Nioxin or just normal regrowth. I will be two weeks out tomorrow
Lisa - I want to try biotin, but am a little nervous. I don't want to grow hair in places where I don't want hair. (upper lip). Keep us posted on your results
-
hi lisalisa,
i would like some info on what a integrative oncologist is and how are they different and what alternative treatments are they recommending sharon
-
Renee! Where did you get a pic of my head?
hugs!
-
I found this hair color online yesterday after some searching... has anyone tried it? I'm considering ordering some. I'm also going to go to Whole Foods this weekend and see if they carry any natural hair color.

I just heard yesterday that if you put the Nioxin follicle booster on your eyebrows and the tips of your eyelashes with a Q-tip that it speeds up the regrowth. I have started as of last night. We'll see.... the eyebrows are really thinning out. The follicle booster is kind of costly but I am willing to try anything! I have an onco appt Monday and am going to ask her about Nioxin and Biotin. I also want to ask her thoughts on Herceptin and hair regrowth. I need to continue Herceptin through Dec. 14th and from I hear here, it slows down hair growth. Yikes!
Nodapearl: I was two weeks out this last Monday... we will need to keep each other posted on our hair regrowth. Are you on Herceptin? Did you have a lot of hair. I had a lot of fine hair. I do have some coming in and I can see a hairline now.
-
Blake - I am not on Herceptin. I had lots of thick, wavy hair. Great lashes and used to complain about my too thick brows (will never complain about that again!!!!). Will definitely keep you posted. I thought I would feel so much better after the chemo was over, but I guess I thought my hair would just "reappear" or something. Let me know about the nioxin on lashes and brows. I have sensative eyes, so I'm a little nervous about putting it on my lashes.
-
Hi Goldie! Going to keep mine short for a while! I'm getting so many compliments, I think short hair suits me! You cracked me up with the mullet look! LOL LOL!!!
All, I did NOT have as much growth as Susan at 8-9 weeks, no way. Do NOT be discouraged! I have hair now!!!
Spring.

Cindy- I bought the biotin shampoo online fro Puritan's Pride. Here is the link. I plan on using it for a very long time. http://www.puritan.com/hair-care-products-032/biotin-shampoo-002490?scid=11256&cm_mmc=Yahoo_SSP-_-Hair%20Care%20Products-_-002490-_-na

Mind you all it's still in that fuzzy stage though , I can still pluck some of it out if I pull hard!
