Hi everyone, I'm new to the site and this is my first post. My mother was diagnosed last Thursday with IDC. She had a 2cm tumor taken from her breast, 1mm clean margins. They also found a small .5cm DCIS tomur in the same breast. That also had clean margins. They surgeon said that this was very treatable, and that she would be alive for the next thirty years. (I'm hanging on to this statement...) In a touch test, her no lymph nodes were found to be swollen. Today we go to see the radiologist. Will we find out anymore info about hormone receptors from him? And do the lymph nodes usually swell if they are infultrated with cancer. I'm at a point where I'm hopeful yet still in shock. I feel the need to educate myself as much as possible.

I'm terrified of losing my mother, and she is very scared to. She is a strong woman and we are a strong family. Any advice would help....

She had a lumpectomy before a biopsy, the surgeon wanted it out right away. They did not perform the lymph node biopsy yet, she will have that done when she has the masectomy performed (that's what she has decided on due to the DCIS, dense breast, and "Active" breast combination) Do you think the radiologist will be able to provide some more answers or should wecall the surgeon back?

The surgeon wants her to know all of her options before their meeting, which is on the 19th. However, I already know her deciscion. The surgeon will be giving his opinon during thier meetings as well. He said her didn't want to sway her, he wanted her to talk to family and get educated on all possiblites before makingthe final desicion.

Thanks so much for getting back to me..

I had no swelling in my lymph nodes either.  Could not take my SN because I had a breast reduction a couple of years ago so had to do AND.  1 out of 13 came back positive for cancer.
