Question For the ladies who have had the nipple sparing mastectomy:

Are you required to do any annual exams like MRI to check the nipple or is it just self and clinical breast exams that are performed after this type of mastectomy?

    Thanks!!

My BS wants to do an exam every 6 months.  No MRI or mammo just a physical breast exam by her.

I am from the Boston area and looking into myself! I was told by rad dr that the MGH is doing the surgery so that is going to be the first place I'm going to look. Please let me know if you find anything else out!

    Thanks!!!

Hi dear JustTurnedForty, I am looking for a breast surgeon with a lot of experience in nipple sparing mastectomies in Grand Rapids. You said you did your nipple sparing with Dr. Marianne Lange and Dr. Hammond. Are you still happy with the results? My greatest fear is nipple necrosis. I was also diagnosed with DCIS, a large lesion. I am thinking of doing a preventive mastectomy of the other side. I was told that surgeons need to have special training to do nipple sparing. Please, help me. I am confused and lost.

    Thank you very much.

anna - this is an inactive thread, the last post is from 2009.  The member you queried has not been on this site since 2012, didn't want you to be waiting for an answer in case one didn't come.  There are some other threads regarding nipple sparing surgery (I also had bi-lateral skin and nipple sparing) that may be more active, just type applicable terms into the search function to find a thread, or look at the individual members who post that they had this surgery.  You can see if they are active by looking at the date of their last post, or clicking on their member name and it will show you when they last logged in.  I did a search on this site with your doc names but both members that came up are inactive.  You may have better luck using Google or other doctor rating sites for specifics about them.  Good luck!
