Kari ~ Hope you had a fabulous birthday!! Sounds like your vaca was perfect ~ Lucky you!!
Spring ~ You look so "Springie" in your new photo ! :-D
I have my first 6-month mamm Wed. morn ~ a little anxious (well, more like a lot) - keep your fingers crossed for me that all is good.
Did 40 minutes on my stepper this morning & used my hand weights at the same time ~ a little sore on my right side, took a couple of Advil & feels better now. I was really going to town with those weights, was really fun & felt good.
Didn't do so good in the eating department this past weekend, had some dessert. I love my sweets & it's so hard not to have them!!
night-night,
Val

Do you have room for one more? What a great thread!!
I was d/x this past January 6th followed by a mastecomy on the 13th of January. I just had my fourth treatment of chemo last week with two more to go followed by rads of course! Since the mid of February, I have been walking 5km per day (weather permitting) and feeling really good about it. I didn't do much in the line of exercise before so this for me is really big!! I too am trying to change my eating habits and it has been very difficult. I am trying to stay away from as much soy as possible and cut out the dairy as well.
I joined a gym as well but right now I am a little self conscious about going....
I don't know if "The Running Room" is offered in anyones area but I have joined the "Survivor 2009" training for the Run for the Cure. It is free for all ladies who are survivors of BC. Here is the website in case some of you would like to check it out www.runningroom.com

Kari,
Welcome back! I missed you! What a great time you had, I always wanted to go to Hawaii!!! I am so glad you tried Yoga!
Sorry about the "digging". I bet the chemo nurses will get it right. I had an infusion of Zometa last friday, and she found a vein in my arm that had never been discovered or tried, and no bruise! only a small dot where the needle went in! I will keep thinking thoughts like this for you.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY KARI!!!
-
PS I am a Turus too! May 1!!!
-
Kari: Boy, do I have envy. Yoga by the ocean! Happy Birthday. Who did the Yoga CD? I'll have to look it up. I don't think I could have gotten through the taxotere aches without yoga. Actually, that applies to most days now that chemo is done too.
Vivre: hadn't heard that theory regarding abdominal weight and cortisol and hot flashes. Interesting, I'll have to mull that over. Thanks for passing it on
Spring, Lisa, Kari, I'm a taurus too, lot of us on this thread.
-
So that explains it....we are all stubborn bulls on this thread! LOL No wonder we have kicked cancer's butt!!!!
Welcome Kim40, we always have room for more!!!!
I'm so excited...I'm finally holding at pre-treatment weight!!!! I knew the detox would help kick it! I'm also back to sweating buckets during Zumba. During treatments I wasn't sweating like I normally do, but now that I have that garbage out of my system...well it looks like I just got out of the pool when I'm done! LOL
Tomorrow I'm launching my new Team Survivor Affiliate at the Regional Cancer Center! I am thrilled to get it off the ground and hope to help motivate more women who have been affected by cancer to get moving! I'm doing a quick introduction and then going to get them up and moving with a Zumba sampler!
Off to meet a new business partner now, but then I'm heading home to till the garden again! Can't wait to get the plants in the ground! Anybody ever do hanging tomatoes?
Make it a great day and don't forget to "move it"!
Hugs
Lisa

My friends are doing hanging tomatoes! I can't wait to see how they turn out!

HI girls, checking in really quick while I'm at work and taking a break eating my strawberries, yum!
Thanks again for ALL the birthday wishes, sure put an even bigger smile on my face!!! And Spring, that pink cake and wish, how CUTE!! and glad your zometa infusion went well, I didn't know you were getting that...are you on that trial?
I will post a new Hawaii pic of me later. A coworker just came up to me and said "wow your hair is growing fast"...maybe its cause she hasn't seen me in over a week? Who knows but I love it!!
kmmd, the yoga cd was by a lady named Carmen, but darn, I don't know her last name...I can always email the hotel and ask.
Kim40 - welcome to this terrific thread!! always room for more, the more the merrier they say.
Ok ok...back to work
Smiles and hugs, Kari

Kari,
I had a bone density scan that showed oseopenia areas, so was eligible to get Zometa as a bone builder, not a mets preventer, but, anyway.
I am at work too today, I typically work from home, and getting dressed and driving into work hour traffic is really something!!!
Spring.
-
Spring, did your dr suggest the bone scan?? Wondering how you got one, did you request?
My Avastin infusion went just fine, my coworker Sue went with me and it was great to visit. My nurse stopped by and suggested a new PCP for me. A laid back holistic type guy...she asked what kind of dr. I wanted. After that last appt. with my current PCP I knew I had to find a new doc.
I'm bummed out, my Avatar photo looks too small! hmmm
Still at work...the girl from our Sacramento office that was covering for me, left me a HUGE cupcake (really a cake, but baked in a huge cupcake pan). Of course I had to have a sliver!
-
Hey Kari, that is a teeny pic! We want to see more of your gorgeous self!
I wanted the Zometa for bone mets, but the Dr. feared insurance wouldn't cover unless I had osteopenia, which is discovered via a bone density scan. (different than a regular bone scan, doesn't look for mets, etc).
Hey Kari, are you in some sort of trial with the Avastin infusion? can you tell me more about that? PM me if you like.
Ladies, I only had 2300 steps today! I had to get dressed up and drive into the office today! What a pain! Tomorrow I am at home again and getting up early to do my "Oh-dark-thirty" walk! I really liked doing it early in the morning on Monday...
Spring.
-
Good morning beautiful ladies!
Ok, I changed pictures to the one where the hibiscus bloom is as big as my head! LOL!!
Spring, I get it now regarding the Zometa, thanks for explaining. I'm in a clinical trial for the Avastin. Entered the blind study 8/28/08 when my chemo started and was unblinded in Dec. and I was on the arm that went beyond the Taxol. 4 more to go!! My onc said it is a risk benefit for me since all my nodes were positive and we don't want that awful C to come back!!! The trial is to see is Avastin along with Taxol helps bc patients with recurrence. Sure hope so!!
Walking through Target last night looking for a Pilates band...found a clearance item from the Biggest Loser - a stability ball, pump, poster with exercises, tape measure, and the Pilates band all for under $14 (the instructor in Hawaii sells just the band for $15)...what a bargain! So had some fun doing some exercises last night with that stuff.
So tried to change PCP's and the dr. my nurse recommended isn't on the open enrollment list. Bummer! Have to figure something else out. I was looking forward to a dr. with a holistic approach.
Spring, how did the dark-thirty walk go? Another nice day on tap in the low 80's...supposed to be over 100 this weekend...OUCH!
As Lisa says, make it a great day and big smiles!!
-
Walked today EARLY and it was great. Going to have to replan walk so we can swing by house to use bathroom in the middle!!! LOL. Always something! Up to 6800+ steps so far.... Yoga tonight!
Kari, my sister in law was also in that trial but got kicked out b/c she was allergic to the Taxol.
-
You ladies have motivated me to try something, anything is better than nothing- right? Went to the gym this morning for a stretching class and then walked for not quite an hour. Also went to local Curves yesterday and joined for a special promo of 1 month. Kind of nice having options to get out and move, use muscles just a bit. Now have to find a trainer who will help me adapt exercises, make sure I am not focusing too much on one thing and not enough on another...onc cleared me for low impact aerobics and light weights.
Thank you for your energy and enthusiaism!
Elaine

Elaine: good for you, feels good doesn't it?
-
I like that - Anything is better than NOTHING!!

Good fabulous day ladies!
Just got back from the Regional Cancer Center and the launch of Team Survivor! I gave my presentation and then we did some Zumba! Only half an hour, didn't want to kill them. I had to laugh...I got there and they had chicken/french fries salad, pop and brownies for lunch! I looked at the woman setting it up and said...What in the world is this????? LOL She said, "I knew you would say something!!!!" LOL
Anyway...they staff that came loved it so much that they want me to teach a class at the RCC! So I'm seeing when I can squeeze that in!
Okay...now I'm off to teach my regular Zumba class...then home to shower and throw something down my throat before I go launch a new business partner!
It's a great birthday!
Make it a great day too!
-
Lisa, good for you, I would have said something about the lunch too. Maybe told them you were going to do 15 min of Zumba, but had to go to 30 min after seeing the menu.
-
Lisa, its your birthday????????? HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU...la la la la la la
You are such a spunky gal, sure wished I lived by you...I want to Zumba in your class! Team Survivor sounds really neat! Good for you girl.
-
Happy Birthday Lisa ~ tho by the time you read this, this wish is a day late ;D
Hope it was fabulous!!!!

Happy Belated birthday Lisa!
Yikes I am surrounded by bulls! My DH is one too. And that is the opposite sign for us Aquarians. As they say, opposites attract! You are just like him-he never ,stops moving. I keep trying to get him to stop and take some time to smell the roses but he just has too many things he wants to do. Sound familiar? LOL
We had lots of storms yesterday, lost power for several hours. But the sun is shining today. Good for a power walk! I still can't get the pedometer to work so I just stay to the trails that have the distance marked.
-
My foot lump was just a ganglion cyst nothing to worry about. What a relief.
-
Oh goodness, Did I miss Lisa's Bday!?
Happy Birthday Zumba Goddess!!!!
Mum, excellent.
Walked again this morning! Love it. I'm too groggy to realize what's going on and before I know it, I'm awake and it's over!
Yoga last night, my yoga bud friend and I both brought our 20 year old college daughters, and we did the "moon salutation" which is very feminine, and it was fantatstic! I will alsways remember this. I think I am more aware now when special things happen!
Miss Kari!!! I love your new pic with the FLOWER POWER!!!! You cutie...
Spring.
