Thats a hard one...though I have read that even those who have even a more advance BC had children.  I guess its another difficult answer that has to suit YOU!  I can understand the OBGYN's perspective of God forbid a recurrence and you know the stats your surgeon gave you based on your history and bi-lateral however, not having children all together in my opinion is not "living your life" like you anticipated.  While it makes it a "risk" IF you should get both pregnant and a recurrence...delaying therapy I would think givin your age ( the clock is a ticken ! ughhhhh hate that expression...but true)  I think if it were me...I would wait a little...ask your OBGYN when he/she would "recommend" as far as waiting period ...and CELEBRATE however YOU want !

 I found an article...I am sure you read PLENTY re: the subject...but for others that may have not.....

Young women diagnosed with breast cancer have yet another challenging issue to consider following treatment of early-stage disease. The safety of a subsequent pregnancy after a diagnosis of breast cancer is a frequent concern of women of childbearing age. Physicians have routinely asked women to wait two years following a diagnosis of breast cancer before becoming pregnant. This recommendation has not been based on any data showing that a particular length of time between a diagnosis of breast cancer and a subsequent pregnancy interferes with or worsens prognosis. The fear is that the elevated estrogen levels in pregnancy are detrimental in terms of increasing the risk of stimulating dormant micrometastatic cells. In this issue of Cancer Control, Drs Mary Gemignani and Jeanne Petrek provide a comprehensive review of the data on pregnancy subsequent to treatment for breast cancer. To date, no significant findings indicate that it is unsafe for women to undergo a pregnancy after a diagnosis of breast cancer. It is unlikely that prospective, randomized studies on this issue will be conducted. Therefore, it is important to consider contributing to the ongoing national database so that the number of breast cancer patients will be sufficient to further evaluate subsets for pregnancy-associated risk.

Wait - are you women saying that your oncologists are suggesting that you terminate a pregnancy because you were dx'ed and treated for DCIS???  No that doesn't make any sense.. there are women who have invasive cancer who take on a risk I understand that but the risk of recurrence after DCIS is so low I can't imagine that oncologists are suggesting this!!  Maybe I'm nieve but take a breath girls - I think you have oncologists that don't know this area well..

I say second opinion - and not with someone in their same offices but someone who has more experience with fertility and cancer..  Best of luck ladies, I understand the fear but I also know the joy of living and it was fully enhanced by my kids.. so walk carefully and take things one breath at a time..  Somewhere along this path you were told what your risks were and although the estrogen can increase these risks I would think that is what you need to be looking at .. are the risk reasonable for you to take..  I'd bet Beesie has written something on the site about this if now I'm sure she will be along soon to give a hand with stats...
