Burning Tongue Syndrome

I have been suffering with what every doctor thought was mouth thrush since October two weeks after starting chemo.  I was treated with nystatin through chemo and some diflucan.  For at least a month after finishing chemo in early January I continued on the mouth rinse and diflucan.  We thought we had gotten rid of it.   Then I did radiation for seven weeks (finished March 16th) and about a week after finishing that, I again developed the condition.  Two weeks ago we tried another regimen of nystatin and diflucan.............no change.  Finally saw an ENT last Thursday and he said it is not thrush but an auto-immune condition called burning mouth syndrome.  He also feels I might have acid reflux although I have not had any digestive symtoms.

He put me on this awful stuff to rinse my mouth that was compounded in the pharmacy and prilosec.  My tongue has made a little progress but now taking the prilosec, I suddenly have indegestion..............go figure.

Has anyone else experienced this burning coated tongue?  It is most annoying.

Sis has burning tongue off and on - things taste off - really need strong taste to taste at all. Try asking your dentist - her suggested Oasis a dry mouth rinse and said many on chemo cant do without it. It has helped her with the waking at 3am dry mouth stuff too from her snoring. Swish dont swallow. Good luck
