By the way, Miss Juniper...
I had alot of good treatment at UAB.
Doctor Forero?
Jan 2005 Stage 3c, matted fixed masses of lymph nodes stuck to my chest.
ER-, PR-, HER+++
Lotsa' treatment, lotsa' rads (6 fields, front and back with two sets of boosts.)
Still kickin'!

Well, how about that?
It's a small world.
El Doctor(s) at UAB probably saved my life. The locals were scratching their heads, saying "HOLY JESUS." (Calling all over the country...ain't seen nothin' like this...)
GO UAB!

Juniper I live in Huntsville! I'm sending you a PM. Dr. Fix is a terrific guy!

To Juniper:
I live in Owens Cross Roads, AL. Do you know where that is? Had a bilateral mastectomy on 4/27. Plan on having DIEP reconstruction with Dr. Jobe Fix in Birmingham in January. When will you be having your surgery?

I am looking for a surgeon that does immediate reconstruction with double mastectomy. Does anyone have a recommendation? The center for restorative breast surgery in new orleans is out of network. Looking for similar practice in southeast. Dr. Fix popped up as an option.
Thanks for any advice
I am stage 1 triple negative. Finished chemo yesterday.

I also live in Tupelo. I have an appointment with Dr. Fix in 2 weeks and also a consult at Vanderbilt. What was your experience with Dr. Fix
-
Dr Fix did both of my surgeries in 2001 and new primary 2015. He was excellent both times. I’m a type 1 diabetic so most doctors don’t want to touch you. I had no complications. Both times I had immediate reconstruction which is what I wanted. I got a second opinion at Vanderbilt. Dr. Did not want to do immediate reconstruction making a long involve process. I had tram flap 2001 and lat flap 2015. Never looked back

Thank you for the response. I am have a prophylactic bmx due to fibrocystic breasts, multiple painful cysts, genetic screening and a terrifying family history. I have seen 2 plastic surgeons and neither were very comforting, only offering implants and refusing immediate reconstruction. One ps told me that since I am diabetic be prepared to have reconstruction fail. My general surgeon finally discussed diep surgery when he saw how distraught I was. I have seen photos from a few ps centers. I wish vanderbilt and UAB would post some photos. Unfortunately New Orleans is not in my network.
This is happening so fast I really don’t know what I don’t know yet. I go to UAB on the 15th and Vanderbilt on the 19th. I am hoping to have this surgery as soon as possible
