Shoulder pain, should I worry
Around 1 to 2 weeks ago I noticed that I'm having pain in my left shoulder blade, and my arm is starting to feel funny (it's not pain) it feels like it's going numb, but the top part hurts, especially when I lift it. I finished my Herceptin treatment a year ago February, what can this be?"

Shelley,
I have been asking a lot of questions about this. I know 6 ladies who are having the same type of pain on the side they had rads. It started 6 to 9 months after rads were done. It comes and goes, but when it comes it is bad. My dr. said it is from the rads, she said it is the gift that keeps on giving.. I finished herceptin a year ago this month. Some of the ladies had chemo some didn't, but they all had rads. One of the ladies had to have her shoulder replaced.

Hi Debi,
In my case it's the opposite shoulder than I'm having pain in.

Does this make sense:
I have been having pain in my shoulder for the last 2 or so weeks (opposite shoulder to the lumpectomy), and the dr. said it's nothing to worry about. Recently I started having some soreness from my underarm to the middle of my breast, so of course I started feeling around. I suddenly felt a lump (but I'm always feeling lumps, so this is nothing new). The lump feels hard and if I press on it, I get a pain in the shoulder, can someone shed some light. I had a mammi in January and an US in January as well, both came back clean.

I'd get the lump check out. There is such a thing as referred pain, where the source of the pain is removed from the site of the pain.

Hi there Shelley,
I just wanted to chime in here and say that it could be shoulder bursitis. The symptoms you describe sound just like my shoulder a couple of years ago and was diagnosed w/bursitis. The "lump" may be fluid (bursa). I would be willing to bet it's nothing cancer-related, but it is something you will want to get checked out, so as not to have nerve damage, etc. My dr. gave me some exercises to do to make mine better and also told me not to sleep with my arm above my head-- yeah, right!-- I do it anyway, and it still hurts some, but nothing that Aleve or Ibuprofen doesn't help. Good luck to you and hang in there!

Thank you, Barbara! He's the light of my life! And growing so fast-- he's 16 months old now, but I just love that pic and can't bear to change it. Maybe I'll post some more recent ones soon.

I went to the surgeon yesterday, he felt the lump as well, said that it was not there before, he's sending me for an US. I happened to notice that near the lump there's a small area that is bruised looking (but it's not a bruise), does this mean anything?

Going for the US today, nervous as usual.

Good Luck today Shelly - please keep us posted!
