(((mumayan)))  I hate this fear we are all going forward with now!  One day you feel fine, then you feel a twinge or feel a bump or a doc looks at us strangely or doesn't look at us, and suddenly we're convinced it's something horrible.  I want to cry every time I read a post like yours and know that a bc-sister is experiencing that high anxiety that is part of our new normal.  I hate it, hate it, hate it, and, wine or no wine, I am mad that we can't move on with our lives without "the fear" always lurking in the shadows.

I'll be thinking of you, and hope everything turns out okay ~         Deanna

Deanna, the fear will subside if you let it, with time. I can honestly say that I do not worry about it at all anymore. I feel so proactive now and that is empowering. If you fear something it can stress you out, so try to look at all the positives and stop worrying. Aches and pains are normal, and being normal means having aches and pains.

I am like you vivre....guess we are the odd ducks!  LOL  I don't worry about it.  I don't let fear lurk in the shadows.  I forget about it most days, because I've gone back to my busy life.  And when I do think about it...I think of it as in the past.  I had "it", I dealt with it and I'm moving on.  I can't let it consume me.

I look at it this way....I could get in my car and get in an accident.....but I don't dwell on that.  I'm not going to dwell on all the other "what ifs" either.

We never know what tomorrow will bring - it could be a sunny day or a raging storm, but I have learned it isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain.

I find the further I stay away from oncologists, the less fearful I am. lol. They "think outloud" and it scares the crap out of me. But if I focus on my life, and all the things I'm doing to make a difference, I do feel more empowered. I guess I try to be like Lisa and Virve but I can also realate to Deanna and others. (The new "normal"!)

So tomorrow my hub and I are getting up really early to walk . It has been too hot here to walk during the day, and we've let it slip! I am hoping this will become a routine. The thing is I hate to get up. But I set the alarm already!

    Happy Mother's Day to all!

I worked in my yard ALL day and loved it!  Nothing like working in the garden to work up a sweat! LOL  Then I had a great dinner with my family!  And chocolate covered strawberries to end the meal!

    Make it a great night!

Lisa, vivre, Spring ~  You are all right, but I didn't mean to sound like I or any of us live with constant, inordinate fear.  It's just when an onc says you need a test that those horrible feelings do resurface.  I had it happen after Femara made me pass out and an onc's PA suggested a brain MRI, which I didn't even bother to have.  But, for a minute or an hour or a day -- until you recover from the shock -- that feeling of utter disbelief can come over you again.  My comments were an attempt to empathize with mumayan, because I hate the fear that creeps in when you have a test or have to wait for a test result.  And there are two gals on my August 08 chemo thread going through the same thing, so I was just mad for all of them when I posted.   But, I didn't mean to imply that fear is a constant in our lives now.  Like each of you, I personally feel like I am learning and doing all I can to prevent a recurrence, and most days vibrant health is uppermost in my mind, and I hope everyone else's here!

Hope everyone's had a lovely Mother's Day.      Deanna

OK, we got up early today and went onlyr 3.7 mile walk, and it felt GREAT to get this out of the way early! Also, I had so much walking *energy*, I felt like I was gliding on air! I think I will try to do this every day I can. It was also cool/cold!!!! not hot!!!   And the birds were really alive. IT was fun.

OK, making it a great day!

Deanna, I know exactly how you feel and what you meant.I am so glad that I am doing all these things about eating/foods/supplements and exercising and serenity. I know you are too!

The ideas for a beet salad sound so good!  I think I'll try one.  I've never bought yellow beets, nor have I ever prepared any fresh beets.  Do yellow beets taste like red beets?

I'm still seriously walking -- just 17.85 miles last week, but I only walked 4 days.  I did 9425 steps this morning, so I'm definitely increasing my average distance.  I just have to work on not missing so many days.

Hope everyone's week is off to a great start ~  Deanna

It is so ironic (serendipitous?) that you gals started talking about beets. I met with my hormone doc today and she said I need to eat them! It seems that beets contain betane, which is essential to help with hormone metabolism.  It has something to do with methylation. Don't ask me to  explain it. More on the natural girls thread. She also said to saute the green stalks from the beets just like you would spinach. It is very nutritious. Has anyone grown beets? I am going to try to.

I can't believe you are gardening already Spring. I am still waiting for the ground to warm up and dry out. I rarely plant tomatoes before Memorial Day.

Deanna, tate like red beets, but you're not supposed to have the problem with getting everything stained red while cleaning/cutting/cooking them

vivre: thanks for passing that on, I just know they tasted so good I wanted to try it again, happy to know there are even better reasons for eating them

Oh man, I have fresh beets in the crisper drawer! I better bust those babies out! Thanks Vivre, who knew? Beets and hormone balancing??  It's all out there, isn't it, in our food. We just have to Eat it!!!

Yep, lots of herbs going, Vivre. I think I will save the beets and do Lisa's Mango Black bean salad. I can get the cilantro from the garden! And I have a ton of fresh limes. I am going to make a double batch and bring some to a pot luck thing at church tomorrow. At least there will be one thing I can eat! lol!!!!

Thanks EWB and Deanna and Lisa!  I am loving this short European-style doo! So liberating! Great for us exercise girls!!! :)  The sweat makes it lift more and seem like there's more hair! ha!!!

Hi everyone, I'm back!  And its my 47th birthday today!!!!!!!

What a beautiful time we had.  First Seattle, had a nice visit/dinner with SIL and BIL, went to a good Thai restaurant, then off to Maui!!  Lots of fresh fish and perfect island weather.  I was very careful of the sun, which kinda sucked, haha...wanted to frolic all day in it!  I got a private yoga session at the hotel, free for guests, the others didn't show up so I had the gal to myself, first yoga lesson, and it was great!  Then Friday went to the Pilates class, which a lot of others went to also.  Both classes were held in a shady (well first part of class) area of the lawn next to the ocean!  WOW I could certainly get used to that lifestyle!!!  I bought the lady's yoga and pilates cd too and am anxious to try it out.  Lots of beach walking, and let me tell you, my legs were SORE!  That sand really sinks down.  We did a lot of walking while there, and boy did my hip hurt. I've been doing the exercises the PT gave me, but hmmmm......go back this Friday to see him for a retest of my range of motion so we'll see.

So today I had to go get blood work done for my Avastin chemo tomorrow and boy that HURT!  She had to move the needle around to get the blood and it hurt.  Now I have a big bump there.  Hubby was mad!  I did break down and cry like a baby in the car when I saw the bump cause it brought me right back to chemo days when they had such trouble with me.  I will definitely have a nice bruise there.  Just hope tomorrow there are no issues with the IV.  Ok...so after my minute of crying I smiled and sang Happy Bday to me! haha...I too try and be positive and sometimes you just have to cry like a baby and get those toxins out!!  Then you feel better!

You've all been busy while I've been playing....I thought of you wonderful ladies all week, as you always inspire me!

Spring and Lisa - love your photos!  you look awesome and make me smile!

Ok...out to pull weeds, its nice and warm out there - hubby just left til the end of the week.  It was so nice to spend time together!  Back to reality...

    Have a terrific day!

Kari-Happy Birthday to You!!!! I am so jealous. HA sounds wonderful. Maybe someday I will get there. It was great you took that trip- so good for mental health which you really need now. And you are right, tears are a great way to detox! At least you are a few hours closer to the islands. I hate long plane rides.

Another thing my doctor mentioned today. My cortisol numbers were really low. This is the stress hormone. I was really happy to see this because stress is a huge factor with bc. I think all the midriff wt loss ( midriff fat feeds cortisol), was a big factor, as well as my new outlook on life. I asked her why I do not get hot flashes anymore. She said it is because she feels they are linked more to cortisol, and diet than to estrogen. I never get hot flashes at all any more. I guess I am doing something right.

Spring-as much as I would love to have a longer growing season, I am not sure if I could stand that summer heat and the snakes! I do love NC though. It is one of my favorite states. We had a wonderful time at Lake Lure and then went to the outer banks so we drove across the whole state. It was great!

    Happy Birthday Kari!

I just read through the beet posts.  My mom used to make fresh beets.  They tasted sooooo good.  I have no idea how to make them nor have I ever tried.  They were always a big treat when my mom made them for us.  I believe hers had some type of orange sauce involved.

I also used to love them in vegetarian roll ups.  Yummmmmmmy.

I have been exercising regularly as well as being part of a demolition crew at my house.  I think my right arm is going to fall off from overuse!  Yesterday I got the ladies of the neighborhood to go on a longer walk and do some hills.  It felt so good to do the hills.  I had to be a bit of a drill sargeant to keep the pace but everyone did a nice job.

    Take Care!

Hi ladies, thank you SO MUCH for the birthday wishes!!  I just feel it in my bones that this is going to be a great year!!

Brought dinner to my older daughter, she works nights as a PICU nurse, so it was fun to see her when she got up (4pm) and before she headed out to work.  Played with her little dogs too, it was fun!  My younger daughter lives in the Bay Area where my hubby works during the week, but I had a couple good talks with her.

Just finished the yoga cd I purchased.  She filmed it on a golf course with the hotel we were married at in the background!  That was cool!  I feel so relaxed now, I usually have trouble taking deep breaths, but by the end of the session, I could breathe right.

Vivre, that is really neat that your dr checked all those levels.  Seems mine don't seem too interested in checking much out.  Just the stuff for the trial I'm in...hmmm...thanks for sharing though, cause I'm always interested in these things.

Mumayan, what ever happened with your lump in your foot?  Did I read that right earlier??  Hope you're doing ok.

OK ladies, I have a lot of shows to catch up on so I'm gonna go veg out for the night and try to get to sleep, that time change has me a little screwy!

    Take good care all!
