Sue- yes, that would be the place- 96 and middlebelt!
We could possibly MEET at the UPS "stuff" check. We can just stand to the side of the trucks and meet there ? There's usually quite a bit of room over there.
-
Judy - what is this all about rib pain?
OK, I can go to UPS or Costco, not a prob (I live like a mile from either) - but I think you need to get on the phone with your onc's office, if there is something going on. Waiting two months is not a good idea!
If you need somebody to go with you, I will be there for you.
Oh, and this is DH's and my 21 wedding anniversary. I guess I'm planning on keeping him. We went to the Ark and saw Girlyman (a NYC-Atlanta trio) that we saw at the Folk Festival , who are utterly awesome. Last Wednesday, we saw the Flatlanders - our favorite group of all time - we once flew to San Francisco to see them perform at Hardly Strictly Blue Grass (well, them and Gillian Welsh and David Rawlings, and Emmy Lou Harris, and...)
I e-mailed for the free tickets - we'll see if we get them - I'm really excited - this is my stepping out in the world as a survivor. Cancer - screw you - you lose - you didn't get me!
-
JudyRock - Please know I am thinking of you and hoping for a good outcome. I know you have a great team at UM - call them and do not wait until June for answers. Keep us posted and call, email or PM me anytime.
As Sue mentioned if you need someone to go with you I am willing to meet you at UM.
Hugs

Judy - We are all here for you. Get your buns over to the doc and get some peace of mind. Keep us posted. We are here to hold your hand.
Happy anniversary Sue. Yep, sounds like a keeper. Ha, that is an idea to put on a t-shirt "Cancer - screw you.."!
About the race.... A bunch of cars can meet in the Meijer's parking lot just South of 96 off of Middlebelt. (Thanks for the locale you guys). Then, we could meet and/or follow to the UPS stuff check site or the Team Meet site. I'm leaning toward the Team site only because you will want to go back to the UPS site after you visit the survivor cafe to drop off your goodie bags.
I got email today that the t-shirt package pick-up day was wrong at the Komen site. It's on the 22nd and not the 16th. I'll figure out a way to get the t-shirts to you guys that week.
Linda should be back from DC, right? How did it go Linda?
Only 12 days left to sign up for the race.

Nancy
Check out these wings.....
-
Nancy- the package pick up is on Friday? Shucks, I thought it would be a Saturday. The gals I signed up definietly need the smaller shirts. I was kind of hoping I could meet you and Irene there and see if I could swap them out.
Wings- I had a message on my machine when I came home tonight cancelling my June appt with Dr JAgsi. I need to call to reschedule that. It's a bummer, because we had my mammo scheduled for same day , just prior to the onc visit. Now I'll probably have to drive out there twice. Why does it seem like every time I have a schedule that's a couple months out it gets changed? Really messes things up at work.
also- Bonnie- did you have any scans, MRI, etc?? I kind of worry sometimes that I didn't have any other diagnostic tests done.
Ahhh, the survivor cafe! I absolutely LOVED those bagels from Panera Bread. They were soooooo yummy!
Oh- we may have another gal signing up from my work. Gave her the info today.
Have barely started my fundraising- need to get on that!!
-
I didn't realize that was a Friday and went back to read my email. It says...
The correct dates for Team Packet PickUp are as follows:
Friday, May 22, 2009
10:00 AM - 8:00 PM
Saturday, May 23, 2009
10:00 AM - 3:00 PMJudy - I don't remember it being on a Friday before. I'll go on Saturday! Sorry I didn't read that good. It may be that it's at a different site on Friday. I'll send you the info about the location.
Check your email. I sent a note about anonymous donors. I believe a generous donation was for your fundraising.
The more the merrier on the Team!

Nancy, yes one of the anonymous donors was my sister

Well, I wrote a whole paragraph and then didn't hit the submit button. Not too smart. Anyway, the Costo and Meijer are both at the SE corner of Middlebelt and I-96. There is really easy egress and ingress onto I-96. The UPS site is actually west of Middlebelt on the I-96 service drive, south side. Eastbound would get off at Merriman then proceed on the service drive. Westbound would go past Middlebelt, then cross over I-96, then proceed a little way east on service drive. It may be easier to just meet at Costo. It's a very large lot.
We have a minivan and I know DH would be happy to drive. We can take 6 comfortably. It will seat 7 but 3 would have to be children, not adults. We come from 6 Mile and I-275 so if anyone would want to meet a little further west, we could meet here at the house.
Spent a wonderful day with DS shopping for some things he is going to need for this summer with the drum corps. Found him some shoes at Kohls to rehearse in, they had to be really, really flexible and I found a pair for me to. They are even white w/pink on them! I had no idea my other shoes were so bad until I put these other ones on. Oh my gosh. They felt SO good. I can walk all day in them. Also went to Salvation Army to see what we could find. I was surprised to see how high their prices were. Hopefully the extra income is going to help people. We were able to get 5 pr of athletic shorts, 2 flannel pants and a pr of shoes for under $20.00. The corps only has 4-5 laundry days the whole summer so I suppose I need to teach him how to wash stuff in the sink. They rehearse for 8-10 hours each day so stuff can get pretty icky. I'm going to try not to think about it.
Have a great evening everyone. Going to hunt tomorrow for my 'bopper' I got at the picnic. I know I just saw it recently, but where? Hitting the submit button this time.
Blessings,
Wendy

JudyRock - UM sure has their share of rescheduling. I wonder if you can reschedule with Dr. J sidekick.....forgot her name? I'm with you no other testing done at UM. I wonder what determines more testing? In your case having the pain symptoms I'm sure they will follow up with more testing.
I was at Panera bread today and had a bagel......yum.
Nancy - I will probably try to find my way to Meijer's parking lot and follow you.
Sue - You are welcome to ride with me as I am coming alone.
Wings
-
Wow, looks like a ride is definitely available. I'm with Wendy about the Costco parking - it is really convenient (we live at Middlebelt and 6 Mile)
I am getting so excited!
Several co-workers have promised to bring in some money for a pledge - I have to be more organized about this.
Incidentally, that morning is my 25th AA Anniversary, and I'm postponing celebrating with my home group for a week so I can do this walk. So, I'll likely be incredibly high.
-
Hi Guys,
I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone at the Race. There seems to be an awful lot to catch up on with everyone.
Nancy - I'm glad to hear the pick up is on the 23rd. We're leaving for California on the 16th and coming back on the 22nd, so I'll be able to make it. Although I'm sure I'll be a little travel stupid from lack of sleep and jetlag. Of course, it can't be worse than chemo brain in previous years. LOL
I think meeting at the UPS pick up is a good idea. We can drop off all our stuff at the same time.
Anyone coming from the North/East who wants to car pool?
Irene
-
Wendy- the UPS site is actually AT the race site. UPS brings a bunch of trucks in and use them for "stuff" check (like a coat check but for your stuff- coat, purchases, etc). They do this every year for the race. It was just a thought as to where to meet once we're there. I don't know if I've ever even made it to the "team meet" area ?? Last year I met WIngs at the survivor cafe.
Going to make some more boppers for anyone who needs/wanst one
-
That is just too funny that there is a UPS site so near the Costco/Meijer site in Livonia. No wonder I was confused. Now I just have to figure out where to go to get my packets before the race. I'd like to 'do' a couple of things to my and DH's shirts. Someone said something about Sterling Heights? I'm not sure I even know where that is. We westsiders think east of Woodward is the other side of the world.
Wendy
-
You guys are cracking me up! UPS and now where to get the T-shirts! Wendy, there will be a bunch of us going to volunteer on t-shirt day to pack up the shirts but, I usually make arrangements with everyone the week before to distribute them. No need to make the drive to Sterling Hts. I think we Westsiders think Telegraph is the other side of the world.
So, let's talk about how to get the shirts. We could meet on Sunday the 24th at Panera bread in Livonia. I mean, all this talk about Panera bread has me hungry. There is one on Haggerty just South of 8 Mile. It's just a hop from the 275 expressway.
20140 Haggerty Road, Livonia, 48152
(734) 464-2138 | phoneI've been to that one before and it is nice. We have met at the Novi one before but I think most of you are around Livonia. Where has Chris been? She is awfully quiet. She is on the Eastside.
T-shirt pack up doesn't last all day either. We could meet at Panera later in the afternoon on that Saturday, the 23rd. I think it would have to be after 3pm. I'm open for suggestions.
Nancy
-
Ok Nancy,
I wasn't trying to be funny! Panera is within walking distance from the house. I'm good for whatever time people are supposed to get there. They have great soup. I've only eaten there a couple of times but it was very good both of them. Please let me know if I can do anything.
Still haven't been able to find my bopper from the picnic. I know I just saw it recently but do you think I can remember where? I am so excited about my new shoes. They feel so good and actually support my feet! I do know dr at one time said I should get a new pair every 3 months to prevent me from 'rolling' inward and messing up my back even more. Maybe the new shoes will help even if it is only a little.
I look forward to seeing you on the 23rd.
Wendy
-
Oops, just looked back and saw that it could be the 24th also. I'll have to check the calendar. We don't get home from church until 12:30 or so and could have lunch there at Panara instead of Wendy's as usual. I'm not sure if we have a car show that day or not. I'll take a look at the schedule when I get downstairs. We are going to a movie tonight so I'm going to start and get ready. Just let me know what's up. Later.
Wendy
-
Wendy - Check your calendar and let us know what day is good. Anyone else have a preferred day to pick up t-shirts on the West side?
About meeting at the Komen site... How about those that get there really early meet at the Team Meet so we can get a few group shots? Then, we can visit the Survivor Cafe and get our goodies. From there, I'm sure we will be scattered. So, before the walk begins, let's regroup at the UPS stuff check area so you won't have to carry your stuff. I think that would be a good way to find most of the group. A third option would be to meet near the stage so we can be together for the opening ceremonies.
Wendy - we are talking like you are familiar with the schedule and site at the Race. The big problem is that the Survivor Cafe moved last year and it was so crowded at the Race we had a hard time meeting up. Good thing we had the head boppers.
Let's put together a cell phone list offline.
About meeting to caravan, I prefer Meijer's only because there are a bunch of non-survivors that meet there and are harder to reach than us that are reading the posts. I'm flexible if you prefer Costco, let me know.
I'm always open for suggestions about all these details! We will work them out before the Race.
Sorry about any confusion.
Nancy
-
A Sunday pickup for our tee shirts works really well for me. I'm sorry if you feel like you are herding cats long distance, Nancy. I can work around whatever works for the majority of us.
I should mention that my husband works at the Panera next to the Costco and Meiers at Middlebelt and I96 on weekends.
Should point out that Costco and Meiers are just different corners of the same big parking lot (more or less), so we are all talking about the same spot.
Judy, I could use new boppers too - DD wore them for Halloween. Enough said.
Will e-mail my cell phone number to our offline group. Today's been an interesting day - I accepted some linkedin invitations, accepted a facebook invite. Do you think I'm too old to be wired?
-
Never too old to be wired! I should talk, I still don't have a Facebook profile. If anyone see's an invite from Opie, that would be me. Maybe I'll go that route so I can remain somewhat anonymous.
Which Panera is easiest for everyone? There is plenty of time to work out the details. Not so much time to sign up to join the Team for the Race though. May 12th is the deadline.
-
Hi Nancy,
Costo or Meijers, whatever is best for everyone is fine w/me. They are basically in the same place. Meijers is just one giant parking lot further south. As far as meeting, if we do carpool, or I suppose even if we don't, what time do you suggest getting down there? Since DH is doing the driving, he works back from meeting time and we go from there. I'm guessing it will be pretty early since opening ceremonies are at 8:00 am I think.
The other thing is how do I get to the offline site? I am just not real computer literate and frankly, don't wish to be. As long as I can get my mail, I'm happy. Although I would like to figure out how to post some of my crafts on that site. Need DH for that.
Either Panera is fine w/me as is either the 22 or 23. On Sunday, I just couldn't get there until after 12:30 pm. I'd probably walk to the one on 6 Mile since it's only a mile down the road and drive to the other. Whichever is easiest for the person dropping off the packets.
I've spent the early afternoon looking for my bopper and can't seem to locate it. I guess I'll need a new one. I'm really sorry. If I find it between now and the race, I'll be sure to bring it in case someone just shows up. I KNOW I just saw it somewhere! I probably put it away somewhere where it would be safe. Haha. I know I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone. Will look for all details as we get closer to the race.
Blessings,
Wendy

Hey Girls..............are you all pumping Iron and doing daily jogs to get ready for the big day??!! You can bet that I'm out there doing appx. 10 miles a night.............I'm going to leave you all in the dust!
Nancy..........What side do I live on? Livonia side or West side?? Tell you what...Livonia isn't going to be easy to get to as 96, 696 and 275 are torn up with lane closures.
Let me know where and when you all decide to meet to pick up shirts and packets.........depending on things here, I'll try to make it. I always feel so 'guilty' that Nancy and Irene do all the packing and then Nancy drives all over delivering.............I know, the easy fix would be for me (us) to help them on packing day.........just not so sure I feel that guilty!
Hope all are well and looking forward to seeing you soon!
Denise
-
HAHAHAHAHA Neesei- yep, I'm in fine form---NOT. I told myself last year that this year I was going to be in good enough shape to RUN the 5k HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Now I'm thinking maybe the one mile walk.
-
Wow Denise,
10 Miles!!!!!! I need to get your formula to figure out your workouts. I like yours much better than mile. See you soon.
Blessings,
Wendy
-
I meant 'mine' not 'mile'. Bad input in - bad input out.

Hey everyone, I put together a Team Wings of Hope site with a calendar and pictures of each year's walk. Get your hankies out, Mary's video is on there also. If you log-in, you can edit and add to the pictures. This is not in competition with this site since it's more of a picture sharing area. I just thought I should add that. Don't post cell phones on this. We should do that through email or personal messages.
http://teamwingsofhope.shutterfly.com/
I remember when I thought I would run the Race also. Sigh, what a slug I've turned into!
Only one more week to wrangle your friends to join the team. We now have 25 members and 11 survivors!!! You guys are doing some great fund raising also! We're on the list of top fundraisers!
Thanks you guys. http://www.active.com/donate/detroitRFTC09
neesie and DH, thinking of you today...

Nancy- LOVE the team page. I looked at every single picture. The video was awesome!
I have about $250 so far from people at work, haven't posted it in yet. Paula and Jackie have been doing a bit of fundraising too- I know because some of the people I asked said they had given to them!!
I may have one more person joining the team, will get the info to her tomorrow.
Hoping for beautiful weather - like we had today- for the walk.
(((((Neesie)))))
-
Nancy- The Team page is fantastic, the pictures brought back so many memories.
I'm so happy to be a part of such a great Team and feel so priviledged to have gotten to know so many of you. I'm sorry that this year again I'll have to just be there in spirit. I think about you guys often and can't wait to see this years pics.
Mary
-
Thanks you guys - you have been fund-raising like crazy and getting your families to sign up! NotMe's family signed-up to bring us up to 29 members. They have been team members since the beginning.
About Mary's (kats) video - I know the first time I saw it I was teary. This time, it gave me shivers seeing Kay. May is so talented. Thanks kats!!
About the Team page - I actually bought the domain for TeamWingsOfHope and started to create the website from there. The tool I was using limited the amount of pictures you can have where shutterfly doesn't. Once I saw how much they let you customize your page, it looks like we have everything we need. I will continue the website but I'd like to add more about our angels. I have already lost the information about Sprite (Kathy Frago). I'd like to gather more about AlaskaDeb before that is lost forever. Let me know if you have links and pictures.
About the pictures - I'm still adding them since I have them on CD's all over the place. I have a bunch of the 2008 at work. I think that in 2007 I mostly viewed Irene's since she is a great photographer. I'll see if I can get her to add them to the album. I still need to look at Mary & Bob's albums.
Less than a week to join the team.

Nancy-the website is fantastic...thank you so much for making this for us. It basically covers my life as a survivor for the past five years...thank you, thank you!!! I will send the link to Connisue and Barb, and others. Wow.
I will by upnorth that weekend..Memorial Day. Nancy...maybe we can meet up in a gas station parking lot somewhere....like last year??? I will check with Conniesue to see if she wants to carpool on the race day. She lives in that area.
April was a killer month for work and personal...so I have been MIA. It is nice to read all of the posts and to get caught up. -
I didn't even realize that t-shirt pack-up day is Memorial weekend!
Not-Me, we can meet up at a gas station, coffee shop or whatever works with the time you have. I hope this month gets better for you - both work and personal.
Talk about time-line, I am looking at pictures I couldn't bear to see, like my few bald pics. No, I'm not posting them!
