Help!! Neulasta side effects? Pain in kidney area

I had a Neulasta shot on Wednesday for low blood counts and now today (Monday) have suddenly developed severe pain in the center low back near kidney area.  I am not sure if it is from the shot or not, I think I recall hearing that the white blood cells are generated in that area.  And not sure if the shot is causing the pain there.  My search online so far has only come up with bone or muscle pain. 

Any one else have pain in the center low back/ kidney area from Neulasta?  or should I be looking into some other reason i.e. kidney infection.  I am also a bladder cancer survivor with a foley catheter.

    I had pain in the hips and pelvis and low back area, which could be where you are feeling it, but I would call your onc straight away - it could be an infection and you can't be too careful!

    Thanks for your reply, jlp.   Yes, I have pain in the hips and pelvis too and today it has been on and off, so I am pretty sure it is either from the Taxol or the Nuelastra shot.  New pains develop from each shot I get.  Pretty nasty stuff.  Hope you are doing well.  Blessings to you and your family. :)

    I think I an answer that.  I am on dd Taxol and had my last tx Monday and will be on to 4 doses of AC.  The first two treatments with the shot - i had tx on Monday and the shot Tuesday around 2:30.  I was told the Neulasta shot takes a week to affect you but I always had bone pain starting wednesday evening and most of Thursday. My oncologist swears it was the taxol.  My counts were good last time and I talked them out of giving me the shot and guess what.....NO PAIN.  So I'm pretty sure the pain somes form the Neulasta.  My pain is also in my hip, lower back.  The one thing I did find was getting the shot in my stomach made it easier.

    I get my first shot of Neulasta tomorrow. I had my first chemo today. So far nothing but a big ole headache.

    I had terrible pain too.  I also did A/C with a Neulasta shot the next day.  The afternoon of the second day I would be in excruciating pain all over.

    My oncologist said it was from the decomexidronsomething so lowered the dose at the next infusion. 

    Nuelasta shot the day after. 

    A few days later I wound up in the ER on mega doses of morphine for the pain that would not

    go away. 

    It was in my groin.  Right side between my leg and torso.  This was in 2006.

    It was a nightmare and to this day I am so careful how I sit or twist my legs.

    As bad as the chemo made me feel the shot was worse. 

    I wish you an easier time of it.   Be in total contact with your team and call your

    oncologist for anything no matter how small you think it might be.

    I had the exact same reaction. I'm on TC with a Neulasta shot. I had pain in the lower back and kidney area - I think it was from the Neulasta. I also had flu type aches and pains along with a headache - not sure what was from the TC and what was from Neulasta. I felt lousy for 6 days. Next round is next Thursday.

    Helen.  I don't want you to be frightened of what our experiences were.

    Mine was 2006 so a lot could have changed by now.

    Kat, I would definitely tell your oncologist about your pain, just to rule out infection. Better safe than sorry and all that.  I know my WBC count was very low 6 days after my Neulasta shot (although  I get it checked again today and expect it to be much better), so I was really careful to pay attention to anything that might not be normal. 

    I, too, have had one round of a/c and one Neulasta shot the next day.  I had fatigue from the a/c (for exactly 10 days, and then poof!  I woke up and felt great!).  5 days after the Neulasta, I had roving pain in my back, neck,  and shoulders (it never settled in any one place, just wandered around all day and made me miserable, but it wasn't intolerable), and also had back muscle spasms.  Tylenol definitely took the edge off for me, and then I heard about using Claritin (the non-D type, and I  used generic) and that really took care of things in a major way.  So I'm hoping that works for the next rounds, too.  I'm just staying on the Claritin for the duration -- between allergies and Neulasta, I figure I might as well!

    Helen, if you're like me, hearing other's adverse reactions can set off panic...  so listen to what Sahalie said, everyone's reactions are different, and don't let the people who have strong reactions make you feel like that will be yours, too. 

    I'm glad y'all are here -- hearing your experiences helps me, and being able to chime in a little and maybe help someone else helps me, too.

    Salahie: it's too late! I am feeling so sick today. I can't stand it. I have a really bad headache that just won't quit. I've taken Vicadin to no avail.

    I have nausea. I have taken my nasea meds. It won't go away. I have pain in my lower back. I had the Neulasta shot this morning. 

    I don't know if I can do all this. I just got diareah too. I try to lay down. Can't sleep. I sit up. I'm uncomfortable.

    So sorry. I'm just venting to you all.....

    I can't believe I wrote that yesterday!

    Today is a better day. Woke up with just a headache & port pain. But it sure is good to know we can come here & vent our feelings. It does help!

    Helen, wow, you went through the ringer yesterday -- glad you're better today!  I guess I was lucky with the Neulasta so I'll try to not complain :)

    I'm still in unbearable pain. My whole body. I did call today & the chemo nurse said this pain is normal. How can it be? I didn't sleep one wink last night.

    Helen I know you will be fine, I had the back pain and headache too but Tylenol 3 did work and I was able to rest. Call your oncologist and he will give you some other medication...good luck and rest, rest, rest...God Bless you!!!!!

    The pain finally lifted about 11:30pm last night. So today I am just taking it easy. I feel quite weak but had some toast. It's funny, tho, I only have a waxxy taste in my mouth now.

    Hopefully, today, I can do some things around the house. It's good to just go with the good days.

    Helen.  I'm so glad to read that your pain has lifted.  Good idea to take it easy today. I am doing the same. 

    Kat.  How are you?  I hope your body is pain free and I know you have to be really careful for infections with a foley.  My dh had one and we changed it every month and kept it super clean of course many times a day.

    Sending you both wishes for freedom of pain.
