This is my first post in a very long time.  Six years ago I was dianosed with breast cancer, I had surgery, chemo and radiation.  I had a follow-up with my doctor and a mamogram just two months ago and everything was fine, they did note that my breasts were "very dense".

Today, I was taking a shower and I noticed that my breast looks black and blue in spots and going down my side.  It's Saturday and I called the doctor and got directed to his on call doctor who told me to wait until Monday, if this does not look like it's clearing I will need to come in and have the doctor look at it.

I am so worried.. could this be IBC?  Is it possible to have breast cancer and then be dianosed with another type of breast cancer like IBC?  The only symptom I have is this black and blue (which looks like pictures I have found on the internet), I have no other symtoms.

    I'm so scared,

    Mary

It is possible to have one kind of breast cancer and then get another, BUT that doesn't mean that is your case.  I am so sorry you have to go the waiting AGAIN. Of course you are scared, I am thinking of you and sending good thoughts your way... Tami

    Mary,

It's always possible to get a different kind of BC after having one kind.  Hopefully you will not have IBC.  Got you in my prayers.

Thank you for asking.  I called the doctor and expected to be told to come in.  Instead I was called by his assistant, she said that she thinks I some how "brused" my breast.  She said that breast cancer does not present like this.  She wants me to call in two weeks and let her know if it is gone.  It's now I week later and it's not any worse and it is not has red but it is purple.  It's not in one spot.  It is along the scar line on the top and down the side of my breast.  I am so scared.  My first cancer was ER positive, with one node positive and close but clear margins.

Considering your history, I think your doctors' office is insensitive and OFF the mark.As you may have seen on these boards, those who tell you that Breast cancer does not present like this are just warning you of their ignorance about IBC. Was the message to wait relayed from the Dr to you by the assistant or was it the opinion of the assistant as part of her job in screening and assessing calls? And is this the office of your surgeon, oncologist or your primary care MD. I hope you do not have IBC but think you should have been examined . Even if (and hopefully) it is a bruise from something you do-not remember doing, being forced to wait 2 weeks is nuts. You should take pictures and document in a diary at the very least, but if I were you I would call your oncologist and ask who to see for an IBC screening.Sorry you were treated this way. Being worried and scared is no fun at all! And as for the assistant who told you to wait, I wonder what she would do if she were in YOUR shoes. I'll bet she would not wait 2 weeks! Keep us posted.
