Hi, all,

Could anybody tell me whether "Atypical ductal ephithelial cells" could possibly turn to DCIS or LCIS? Did anybody get the same result from biosy report? And what did your ONC say?

Thanks.

Atypical just means that the cells are different.  They could turn into cancer, BUT that does not mean they will.  Just get your mammograms and do self exams.   Tami

I would agree with Idaho--just be vigilant with your breast exams and mammos.

As far as I know, they don't understand how these conditions  (ADH, ALH, LCIS) put you at higher risk for breast cancer. It means the nucleus shape and the cell size (and other characteristics of the cell) have some characteristics that are somewhere between clearly normal and clearly cancer cells. Certainly the vast majority of people with ADH (and nothing worse) do NOT go on to get breast cancer.

I think often times, atypia is excised  (if you haven't been already)to make sure there isn't something worse going on.  Some women with ADH choose to have their slides re-read to make sure it is not DCIS.
