Kari,
How did your pelvis rotate? Or shouldn't I ask. LOL! Great news on B9!
We had a retirement celebration, cake and coffee, at work today. I didn't eat cake and people would ask: "you aren't eating cake, of course your not!" It is like they get ticked when you resist because they can't. Honestly, it isn't even a temptation.
-
Lisa how do you do it?
-
Dani42, I've never understood that either. I sign a card, contribute, sing along, etc with the celebrations at work,--just don't want that cake or bad for me food that is brought in. I don't give them looks, I don't say "do you know how many calories are in that.... etc." So, I don't understand why people take it personally when I don't eat cake, greasy pizza etc.
-
I never eat cake or any deserts even if they are homemade. But i do worry that sometimes the people that do the baking might be insulted that I didn't even try it.Too bad its my body and I don't need any sugar.Since my dx I have sort of a I don't give a ### attitude.

I work with a lot of larger sized women. In the past when we would have a staff breakfast or luncheon several of these ladies would actually go through the line with two plates on the first time through. It was always fascinating to me. They were also the same ladies who would take a "to go" plate back to their desks so that they would have something to snack on later. Two of them actually ended up having gastric by-pass surgery because the just couldn't lose weight on their own. Amazing!
Anyway we got a new office manager a couple of years ago. She has the opposite food issue. She is very particular with her food and is very careful how much she eats. When she became the person in charge of the breakfasts or luncheons she would actually ladle the main course/food out onto peoples plates. Her excuse was that there would be some left for those who came late. But in reality it was because it grossed her out that these particular ladies ate soooo much and she just had to take matters into her own hands. She also wouldn't allow people to take a "to go" plate unless the time frame for the meal was completely over and people were cleaning up. It cracked me up but I know it made several people very angry.
One of the other things that used to happen but finally stopped about a year ago is the requirement to bring in birthday treats. An email would go out from one particular lady to remind us that so and so's birthday was tomorrow and not to forget to bring a birthday treat. Of course it was always sweets and tons of it. Finally several of us just quit doing it. We started with one of the healthier people's birthdays and just never participated again. We don't bring anything so we don't partake in the food that is brought. It made some people mad at first and several people thought we were acting like we were above people but now we don't hear anymore comments.
I just don't have time for all of the drama.
-
Well, Dani, you have given us all something to vent about.LOL! The fact is people are envious that we have the willpower and they do not. Someday they will walk in our shoes, as they deal with their own health issues, and perhaps they will change. But some people just refuse to change. My dear uncle has had a stroke and then open heart surgery. He refused to give up smoking after the stroke which led to the surgery. I tried to encourage him eat healthier, but he just will not do it. He says it is all genetic so why bother! Yeah, it is true that some of us have weaker genes than others, but is that any excuse to say the hell with it and pig out? Some people just never learn, not even the hard way!
-
I don't see why I have to explain anything. Once you have had cancer, to me, you have a life ticket to eat what you choose, no explanations needed! Spring.
-
I started eating clean about a year before my diagnosis and people would comment on how I was "picky". The thing is, that is just their insecurity coming out. They don't feel they have the willpower to say no. So I just told them that I was making all kinds of healthy lifestyle changes..that is wasn't a diet, just a way of living. They started coming around. I talk about it during my health presentations too...and I'm teaching others to live healthy. If they don't want to, that is their choice...all I can do is set the example and help others to learn!
-
mumayan....How do I do it? I'm stubborn! LOL
I was still dancing around after our three hour zumbafest Friday night...my 76 year old aunt was there...she just shakes her head and says, "Do you ever stop?" I told her NO!
I'm on a mission.........that is my mantra!
-
I will admit to being jealous of some of the 20 somethings who can pile that paper plate to the point it starts to sag and bend--and still fit into that size 2.
However feel so much better eating and exercising well it is a passing emotion when I see it. This is my favorite thread right now, love having others to talk to that prioritize this. Speaking of which, was pretty sore from surgery yesterday, didn't move much and didn't eat as good as I should. Off to make some veggies for breakfast and get my rear out of this chair and moving.
-
Lisa I crown you queen of the motivation thread.
-
ROFL.......too funny! I love the ladies on this thread!!!!!!!!!!
-
Actually, I think Lisa is the energizer bunny. She just keeps going and going. . .
Sometimes I get a workout just thinking about her day! LOL
Like all bunnies, they mulitply quickly. Maybe that is why our little thread here is growing. So we are all little bunnies too! Maybe we should ask Hef to join us! (I wonder if he likes flat women!)

Vivre you crack me up!!!!
Hey, great news regarding walnuts!
Walnuts May Prevent Breast Cancer
Walnuts are known to be good for the heart, but new research suggests that they may also help protect against breast cancer. Evidence presented at the annual meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research in April, 2009, showed that feeding walnuts to mice programmed to develop breast cancer reduced the incidence of breast tumors that normally develop in the animals. Those receiving walnuts also showed a decrease in the number of glands with a tumor and in tumor size, and the researcher who presented the study commented that walnuts could also prove to be protective in humans. The amount of walnuts fed to the mice in the study was the human equivalent of two ounces per day. The researcher from Marshall University School of Medicine attributed her findings to the omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants and phytosterols in walnuts. In a separate study, researchers at the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University in Boston found that walnuts helped aged rats improve motor and cognitive skills and suggested that eating about an ounce of walnuts a day could do the same thing for humans. -
Love walnuts on a spinach salad yummmm
-
Anybody got a really good spinach salad recipe?
-
I usually throw things like strawberries and walnuts on my spinach, but another favorite is this:
Orange Spinach Salad
1/2 cup orange juice, 3 T red wine vinegar, 2 T agave, 1 T EVO, pinch of salt. About 6 oz baby spinach, 1 cup canned mandarin oranges, drained, 1 cup sliced mushrooms, 1 small red onion, sliced thin, 1 T slivered almonds, 1/4 dried cranberries.
Combine orange juice, vinegar, agave, and EVO, salt. Wisk together and set aside. Combine spinach, oragnes, mushrooms and onions. Sprikle with almonds and cranberries. Just before serving toss with dressing.
-
Thanks Lisa I am using the recipe tonight.
-

Just checking in for the day, wow a lot of funny stuff going on!! Lisa the Energizer bunny, that is funny! Met a friend for lunch, yummy healthy salad with walnuts! Lisa, I just copied your recipe, that sounds yummo!!
Dani, I wish I could say something cool as to why my pelvis rotated, but the PT said that its very common and could stem from a number of ways, sitting, laying...all of which I did a lot during chemo and with rads I was really favoring that side, that's when it started hurting. But I've been doing my exercises like a good little student, heehee!
The outlaws are in town (my inlaws from Portland), hubby just rolled into town, can't wait to roll out of work here soon!
Have a fantastic night all! As Lisa says NEVER STOP!!!
-
Glad you like the recipe...I posted some others on the natural girls thread too!
I'm just finishing up another conference call myself Spring...I have a hard time staying in the chair...thank goodness for cell phones!
Well this energizer bunny needs to go re-charge her battery! And Vivre...this bunny is so NOT multiplying! ROFL....those days are over!
Make it a great night!

All, 8500 steps yesterday!
Today is my Birthday! I hope 51 is a better year than 50 was! I am going to "make it so" as Lisa says!
Lisa, I tried the Quinoa salad with cucumber, tomato, etc. (was that on this thread?) IT was a hit! I used Red Quinoa, added 3/4 cup of mixed beans, some herbs from my garden, cooked the Q in chicken stock, OH and I zested the lemon before I squeezed it!
Also checked the Black Bean Brownie recipe in my Agave Baking book. it had over a cup of Agave! So I'd totally swap out your white sugar for that if you try it. Just may or may not take a bit longer to cook. Let me know if you try it, as I will.

Happy Birthday to you Spring!!!!
-
Hey Lisa, You are getting me confused here. When you talk food here and on the natural girls, I get all mixed up! So I guess we will just have to tell people to read both threads to keep it all straight!
We finally are getting some sun today after several dreary days in a row. The dandelions are really lovin all the rain! I am headed to the river for a long walk. CarpeDiem! and happy birthday again to you Springtime! (don't go giving Lisa an ideas about doing a cookbook, even energizer bunnies have to recharge their batteries sometime!)
-
Sorry...people just happened to request recipes on each thread....but it's all good....
Don't worry Vivre! No cookbook in my future! LOL I'm too busy with Zumba and teaching my Live Long Live Strong seminars!
Well, heading out to take my daughter to get her drivers license!
