I am really tired of paying for bottled water, not to mention having to shop for it.  Also, I seem to be defeating my purpose since I find myself using tap water for coffee and cooking.  It seems that the best solution might be to install a water filter.  Does anyone have any suggestions as to which one might be best?

I like the Brita water filter.  It's easy to install, lasts around 3 months, and has a light which indicates it's filtering.  If you have lots of room on your kitchen counter, the Brita pitcher works well too.  Some people think the plastic is not healthy, but Brita says that their pitcher does not have the harmful chemical that many clear plastic pitchers/glasses, etc have.  Good luck!

Have you thought about installing a reverse osmosis system?  It supposed to get rid of everything in your water, plus you have the benefit of not having to deal with plastic bottles.  I love mine.  You can either get Culligan to do it for you or you can pick one up yourself and do the install which is less expensive.

We just bought a Berkey water filter. My dh had researched filters and found that this was the best system because of everything it filters out (chlorine, fluoride, other heavy metals, just a TON of other garbage that is found in municipal tap water), AND because it doesn't remove the natural, beneficial minerals.

We got ours the week before last and finally installed it a couple of days ago... LOVE this filter! It's huge because it has multiple filters, but it's worth it (and it's actually gorgeous in my kitchen).

We had been drinking spring water, but I hate the idea of plastic leeching into it, not to mention bottled water gets VERY expensive when you drink as much as we do (not to mention cooking with it and making tea/coffee with it too!).

I use the Enagic filtration system which produces the trade mark name of Kangen Water.I personally swear by this water. It is  made by the Enagic company in Japan and is actually used in the hospitals there and is considered by their equilivant of the FDA as a medical device. The reason I like this system is that it keeps in the minerals and makes the water alkaline the ionization process breaks the molecules down to very small so it will get into a person's cells easily. Our body system also oxidizes inside like an apple does when you cut it open. This water actually works to remove the oxidation so it is anti-aging.  Dr. Otto Warberg received the Nobel Prize for discovering the cause of cancer-this being lack of oxygen which is low alkaline pH. No disease can exist in an alkaline environment. Japanese medicine has proven this over the last 15 years. Yes, for years I boiled eggs, pasta etc in tap water not realizing that the cancer causing chemicals were getting into my food this way. I haven't drank tap water in many years and never drink bottled water. One reason due to the environmental waste and the second is that they do not have to prove what the are bottling up and selling. This is not an ad for this company I am just giving you the information that I have researched and you can determine if it resonates with you.

    My very best to you

Brita and Pur filters do not remove organichlorines (linked w/ BC) or many other harmful chemicals. In order to do this you need a "solid carbon block" (as opposed to simply carbon) filter, or reverse osmosis.

For Jessamin, DD Traveler, Crunchy Pood and anyone else who sounds like they've

done more serious researchon the water filters:

    1. May I ask ballpark cost range? I've heard upwards of a couple thousand $ for

    good water filtration.

    2. Do you use filtered water for cooking and showering, or mostly food concern?

    3. Good filters for shower?

    4. If no water filter, can food grade hydrogen peroxide at least help with

removal of pesticides from fruits, veggies?

    5. Any other suggestions?

    Thank you very much.

I also use the Enagic filtration system.  I started on this as I was finishing radiation.  I had two very bad radiation burns.  I was instructed to put very high ph water (11) on my burns for about a half hour twice a day.  After the half hour, I put very low ph water (2.5) on for about another half hour.  After 5 days my burns were completely healed over.  We then started drinking 9.5 ph water.  We had our well water tested and it was 4 ph.  Cancer will not live in high ph environments.  In our neighborhood there are 10 ladies who have had breast cancer.  We are now doing much better drinking the high ph water.
