Hi, all,

Should those with positive node ILC take chemo and those with 0 nodes don't? If without chemo how secure this treatment is?

Would like to hear from your experience and what your ONC said. Thanks.

I have a feeling that my nodes will show no cancer when I have my mastectomy in a couple of weeks.  But..I still had chemo first. My ILC was 8cm x 12cm when discovered.  I can't imagine not having chemo, even if my nodes are negative.  My surgeon said that even a mastectomy can leave tiny microcells in the chest wall, etc. that have receptors.  Chemo took care of these microcells that would have been left after my mastectomy.  Made sense to me so I went with what my doctor said.  He hasn't steered me wrong yet.

It depends on what grade your cancer is also.  If it is grade three that means it is growing fast and chemo will probably be recommended.  Most doc's recommend chemo if there is a positive node.  And most recommmend chemo even if there are no positve nodes.  It depends on a lot of factors.  Do you have your stats?  HER 2 results can change the recommendations also.  My onc recommended chemo but I declined.  I am doing radiation and tamoxifen.  Good luck, Tami
