    Sherry,

I know you have signed off but I just had to write.  I'm so sorry about your babies.  I guess when we open ourselves to love one of God's creations, there is always going to be a goodbye.  I've come to learn to take every minute I have with the kittens I foster, then hold those memories tight when it's time to take them to the store to put them up for adoption to their forever families.  Sometimes its been really, really hard.  Last summer I had a litter of 5 from the time they were 4 weeks old until 9 weeks old.  Oh, I cried when I left them at the store but they are all at wonderful homes now.

It's about time for kitten season to start again and I suppose I'll start fostering again.  It sure kept me laughing and gave me a reason to get out of bed and moving.  With this terrible economy, we are seeing more and more adult cats being turned into the shelter because their owners can't care for them any longer.  They sit in the cages facing the wall; I think they are grieving for their families.  I try to go in more often than just when I'm supposed to do my cleaning duty and sit in the cages and love them.  One brother & sister, 3 years old, have just started coming out of the cage, after being at the store for over a month.  I know that their forever home is out there, the people just have to walk through the door.  It will happen.  That PetSmart adopted over 250+ kittens and cats in 2008.  I was proud to be part of the process.

By the time you read this, it will be tomorrow so I hope you had a great evening.  God bless.

Sahalie, my mother-in-law made a cushion she takes with her when sitting on folding chairs.  When I mentioned it, she said she used a cushion that people use in the car to take the pressure off their tailbones.  I use one to raise my hips higher than my knees.  I find I don't lose feeling in my feet as much when I use it, especially during long trips.  They came in sets of 2 so I am going to take the other one and make up a cushion to use at my quilting classes.  I thought I'd add some panels on the sides for storage and a padded back.  I think I'll wrap the seat pad with some quilt batting for some extra softness.  We'll see what happens.

Arnie, you are just down the road from me!  Yes, I am still a MSU fan.  Both DH and son are U of M diehards so I just yell louder.  It was so sweet when MSU went to the finals and U of M didn't.  Our son was accepted in the School of Music at U of M but ended up going to Western Michigan instead.  It really has been a wonderful fit and I think he will graduated a much more rounded trumpet performer than had he gone to Michigan.  They put out fantastic classical musicians but not everyone can get into an orchestra after graduation.  He has one more year so we'll see what happens.  He has been hired to play at quite a few venues in the area and really enjoys that.

I love your woodworking, especially the kitties.  Do you sell any of your work at any of the craft shows in the area?  I'm always on the lookout for something else "kitty".  Let me know.  It's good to meet a new friend in the area.  The next time the MI group meets for lunch I will have to let you know.  I missed the last one because of a nasty stomach bug but the group meets quite a few times for lunch.  I know the group is walking on May 30 downtown for the breast cancer 5K.  I'm going to plan on walking and DH said he would come with me.  They are always looking for new group members.

I should get going and fold some towels.  Take care and I hope to talk to you soon.

    Blessings,

    Wendy

    Jasmine,

Just wanted to tell you that I laid out my purple squares on the floor today and I can't believe how it looked.  I'm usually so "matchy-matchy" and have to have everything really coordinated.  It is amazing how random fabrics with only purple in common could come together so perfectly.  I just wanted to thank you again for sending some of your stash.  I shared a couple of the larger pieces with the lady at our office.  She really appreciated them and asked me to pass along her "thank you".

I hope you have a wonderful visit with Spar.  I know I would love to meet you in person; you are a real blessing.  Have a restful evening.

    Blessings,

    Wendy

Wendy.   I love reading your posts.  Thank you for the information regarding seat cushions.

It's funny how my car has the best most comfortable seat ever.

How is your dh doing these days?  I hope all is well at home.

As for the animals.  We have a farm so you know we have all sorts of feathered friends.

Ducks.  Geese.  Very large  :  ) .   Hens and an incredible Rooster.

He is the doting dh of all his beauiful girls.

I sit sometimes for half a day just watching all of them.

    The ducks are real entertainers.

We have kacky campbells, white crested, all sorts of colors, miscovies, etc.

    The geese are huge.

We have some new lambs too that are so adorable and stick together like glue.

All our animals are pets.  I have shared with SPAR how we enclose the pens when we are not

there.  As soon as the sun begins to go down the Rooster gathers his girls and they head

inside the coop like clock work.

I love the story of the chick that was in your hat and went home with you.

Oh the lambs are SO cute.  I love lambs.  I have a picture of my mother when she was about 5 years old and was visiting her grandparents in Fillmore, Utah where her dad was born.  Apparently a lamb took quite a liking to her and followed her right into the house.  From what my greataunt said, my great-grandmother just about had a heart attack!  Dogs and cats weren't allowed in the house let alone a lamb.  I guess I know why I took my chick home.  I probably wouldn't have made a very good vet.  I have a very, very hard time when they die.  I know it's all part of life but it doesn't make it any easier.  Thank you so much for sharing the picture.

Jas, it's probably going to be awile before the purple quilt is done.  I have 3 others in the line before it but at least I have an idea of what it can look like.  I really would like to get some of my pictures set up.  We'll see what DH's schedule is like in the next few days.  Tomorrow is another day for crafting!

    Blessings,

Wendy I have been making a necklace instead of going to bed.  I also loved the chick story.  I have 5 cats so as you can tell I love them and everyone is so different.  I will not get anymore animals until we have a safe cage.  I would love to have geese and ducks on the pond and some soft furry rabbits to love on.   Can't wait to see your quilts.  I bet they are beautiful.

Sahalie your place sounds so perfect and peaceful.  It is wonderful living on a small farm and working the land with a garden and flowers.  We planted 3 pine trees today after we got home.

Arnie and Wendy do you guys live close enough together to get to meet in person?

Jazzy girl, I love ya and I made you a special purple necklace just for you, that is why I ask you tonight what your fav. color was.  I will post a picture.  The box of squares with your necklace will be in the mail tomorrow morning.

Your very welcome, it's prettier in person than the picture.  I love it too.

the one above is made from tiny stones and little crystals and the little square ones are plastic, and then small metal balls, I love all the colors and you can wear it with anything.

Got to get to bed, tomorrow is womans day out for lunch and knitting and talking about anything new we have studied in the bible over the weekend.

    love you all. good night.

for all the comments on my woodworking...Spar your necklaces are gorgeous! Yes, sunkistmi and I live just a town apart... she's gonna let me know the next time the gals get together for lunch.. I have sold pieces in the past, after 9/11 I made patriotic heart hangings with Support our troops on them. Had quite a few requests for them. Believe it or not my biggest commissioned project was a 6 foot marine I made for a friend whose son was in Iraq. She lives up my the Mackinaw bridge in northern MI and wanted it at the end of her driveway to welcome him home... That took me months! I also made Uncle Sam's holding flags and those were a big request item. After that period of time...I realized I enjoyed doing it for fun instead of money making... I make all the nieces and nephews wedding gifts and they choose what they want. I also make them their children's name plaques. I loved making fence sitting critters last summer...  Anyway, you know how addicting something you truly enjoy is...just look at those necklaces!

Sahalie... I used to live in the country, we only had an acre but there was a farmer across the street that owned hundreds of acres...  Spent a lot of my childhood and teen years helping him with his horses, etc.  I married a city guy and now live in the city...still dream of retiring back to the country.

Sunkistmi...YEAH!  So glad your a STATE fan... my dh, ds and son-in-law are die hard UofM fans... yuck!  My dd stays neutral! ha!  My son always tell people the story of when he was growing up he'd ask for something and I'd say, "Say GO GREEN"  or my dh would say "Say go blue" Ha!  LOVE MY SPARTIES!  Both of my brothers went to MSU so spent a lot of time on that campus...    No I don't sell anything at craft malls, do it for enjoyment and to give as gifts.

Hi fellow crafters! I just stumbled upon this thread! I love it... I have always thought that crafting is very therapeutic! In fact... while I was going through chemo, I had an on-going project... spread out on my kitchen countertop... it was a mirror that I bought at goodwill... and a friend had given me lots of sea shells... so when ever I was feeling "okay" I sat at our kitchen countertop and worked on it. The mirror occupied our countertop for 16 weeks... the duration of my chemo... but it was awesome! As sick as I was... I was able to feel productive and creative. It helped me deal with it all. Here's my sea shell mirror!

SPAR.   Your necklaces are gorgeous.  Jazz you are one lucky girl.

JO.  Have a wonderful time on your vacation.  Isn't Hatteras where a famous windmill is?

My cousin who lives on the east coast went there last year and sent me a post card.

I think it is a windmill.

All my friends and relatives go to either North or South Carolina for their vacations.

This is what I miss for living on the west coast.

New England and eastern coastlines are so breathtaking.

Everyone be careful OK with this flu mess.  It's all over the radio on the way to work and at

    night on the TV.

    This is scary stuff.

LAURA.   Your mirror with shells is beautiful !   You must get many compliments on it.

I'm so glad you found this fun thread and hope you share more crafts.

    Hi ARNIE.  SUNKISTMI.  EWB.   JAZZYJAZZ.

    JO,

I'm not sure whether it would be out of the way or not, but on our way home to MI from Florida, DH and I stopped in Hiawassee GA, just shy of the NC border, to visit a world-famous rhodedendron garden.  Unfortunately with all the cold weather they had, most of the bushes were not open.  Those in the know said it would probably be another 2 weeks or so.  The dogwoods, redbuds, and some of the azaleas were blooming so it wasn't a total loss.  We were there the Friday after Easter.  I would really recommend them to everybody.  It's a permanent garden located in the area fairgrounds.  After walking around the gardens, we visited a couple of the many waterfalls in the area.  I amazed myself with all the walking.  The gardens are very easy, mulch covered paths.  The one waterfall, High Shoals, was a walk of 1.2 miles back off the road and were well worth it.  As we were standing there contemplating whether or not to go, DH voting NO!!!, a family reached the parked cars.  We asked about the trail and they all really recommended it, well not the 10 year old.  The grandmother was 82!  She said to just take it slow and steady and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.  It was stunning and not too difficult.  If the flowers had been open, it would have been perfect.  We then visited another fall, Anna Ruby Falls, that was only .5 miles from the visitor center and I think that one was actually harder, even though the path was blacktoped.  It was quite steep but was well worth the walk.  The stream ran right alongside the path and ended in a 3-level waterfall.  Took my breath away.  It's too bad the pictures just don't do them justice.

I am just 5 months out my last surgery on the thigh, where they took the fat for the breast reconstruction, have ruptured discs and a vertebrae out of place in my back and have had both knees replaced.  Be sure you have water with you and a walking stick would have helped but I had no problems.  Course you can be sure I did feel it the next day and for several days after.  The whirlpool at the hotel was not open and I'm sure that would have helped.  We were also in the car for 15 1/2 hours the next day driving home so maybe if we would have taken it slower our legs would not have hurt so much.  I would love to go back down and stay in the area for more than just 1 day.  There is so much to do.  I was very happy it wasn't warmer with all the walking.

It is probably way out of the way from where you are going but I wanted to pass it along.  I can't believe that a craft person isn't taking any crafts on their vacation.  Of course, it's better than me who takes everything but the kitchen sink and never works on anything!  DH gets so peeved at me because of all the 'stuff'.  I always feel it's better to be safe than sorry.

I hope you have a wonderful trip with your family.  Falling asleep to waves lapping on the shore is always wonderful.  Safe journey.

    Blessings,

    Wendy,

Jo, I was going to correct Sahlie about the lighthouses of the outer banks but you did with photos. I don't think there is a windmill there. I have stayed at Kitty Hawk and seen the Bodie Island Lighthouse as well as walked up the Hattaras lighthouse before they moved it inland several years ago. If they hadn't moved it, it would have toppled into the ocean. Try to make it up the coast to Kitty Hawk and see the Wright Brother's memorial and museum while you are there. I think it is too early in the year for the outdoor drama "the Lost Colony" to be in production yet. That is something else to see also if you like history. The outerbanks are about an 8 hour drive from my house in the foothills. When we first moved to NC from Ohio (1975) we were closer to the beach but I love the mtns also.

I missed this page when I posted about the lighthouses. Wendy, Hiawasee GA is on the opposite end of the state from the coast. Murphy NC which has the Hiawasee river close by is as far west as you can go in NC and you can go from TN to GA through NC rather quickly.

Oh JO, that sound like such a fun peaceful wonderful vacation.  A good Christian book and ice tea (with sugar) sound wonderful.  I love light houses.  We climbed the stairs inside one on Padre Island and the next day I could not walk using all the muscles that had not been used in a while

Laura, that mirror is just beautiful.  love it. glad you found us.  we are a bunch of crafty women. LOL

Sahalie, a lady gave me some hens and chicks today so I found my elephant planter and am going to plant, another lady gave me a large sweet basil plant with a recipe for pesto, another lady gave me a beautiful lion for my bedroom.  I just feel so blessed today and was so surprised.  We meed for lunch every Tuesday and knit and talk.  One of the ladies made homemade butternut squash soup and I though YUCK but it was wonderful and I ate 2 bowls.

Jazzy girl, have a good fun sunshine filled day.

Sheila, do they have any rafting on the hiawasee river?  Not whitewater though.  I don't do that anymore since getting thrown out of the boat and nearly drowning.

Hugs to all be back later, got to go get some stuff done.

I don't know about the Hiawasee river but there is rafting on the Natalaha. I think they have both white water as well as easy rafting. I know that outside of Murphy is the Hiwasee Dam school, my niece taught there for 3 yrs and Murphy is about 4 hours from my house.

    Hi Sheila,

I too love the mountains better than the beach but will take either in a heartbeat.  I don't know whether you have heard about a particular stretch of road in NC called The Tail of the Dragon.  We knew we were taking the scenic route home from GA but this road had 318 curves in 11 miles!  It is the curviest stretch of road in the world.  I was glad I wasn't driving and DH was.  It would have been much more fun on a motorcycle or sports car.  The speed limit was only 30 mph and sometimes we couldn't do much more than 20.  It was so funny that there were 3 police cars within 3 miles as soon as we crossed the TN border.  All had pulled small sports cars over.  There were people with cameras taking pictures as the vehicles came around the curves and you could purchase your picture online.  No one seemed really thrilled about taking us in the minivan.  I wonder why?  LOL.

We did see several places that advertised rafts and/or small canoes along the river.  I'm not sure if it was on the Hiawassee River or not.  I do know that the water that came over the Anna Ruby Falls ended up in the Gulf of Mexico.  I am one that always reads the 'info' stuff at the visitor centers.  DH is usually in the car by the time I'm finished.

JO, I did want to mention that you can find info about those gardens online.  It is called the Fred Hamilton Rhododendron Gardens and it is free.  They do ask for donations.  The Rhododendron Festival is in May.  There was an information number in the little booklet I picked up (I always come home with a bagful of literature) and it is 706-896-4191.  Good luck.

    Blessings,

    Wendy

    I love those shoes.

That pair isn't mine but I have a pair just like them.

You can find them anywhere from Rite-Aid to JJill to Nordstroms to Walgreens.

I'm going to use my pinking shears and some thick cute designs of fabrics to make

    the bows.

They could be decorated for holiday seasons, birthday parties, all celebrations.

The flat shoes are so comfortable.

I looked for the post card to check what it was but can't find it.  Maybe later.

It had some tall fun painted thing on it near trees, water and a park like setting.

Look at this adorable thingy I found.  How cute to make for party favors, give to

your favortie trick or treater or baby shower little fun table gift.

    And how easy to make.

SPAR.   Have fun with your hens and chickens.  They take little or no water.

Good hens and chickens.  :  )

CANDIE.   I hope your hand heals quickly.

It must be a major challenge to type with your hand in wrapped up mode.

This has been my constant typing week for work and my hands are screaming

    "enough already"

WENDY.  I'll go on a white water river trip with you!

We also grow Rhododendrons here big time.  Down by Bolinas and over here at Freestone.

    They love this coastal climate.
