edited June 2014 in Young With Breast Cancer

Hi,

I've recently been diagnosed and am ER-.  My lumpectomy is this Thursday and I've already asked the doctors to refer me to a clinic where I can find out if I'm a suitable candidate.

I'm due to turn 36 in June and am just worried I may not be able to have a baby naturally after chemo ends.

Just wondering has anyone else done this and been successful?

 Thanks

 Paulsgirl.

I remember seeing postings about this under single women w/ breast cancer thread so you may want to check there too.  Good luck with the surgery and whatever decision you make!

    Hi Paulsgirl,

I am also 36 and did a variety of fertility preservation methods before starting chemo in late March. Feel free to PM me for more details but in essence I:

    1. had part of one ovary removed and frozen - this is a new procedure
    2. did a course of egg stimulation and freezing (unfortunately not many eggs)
    3. am having injections of a drug called Zoladex to shut down my ovaries to protect them from chemo - said to reduce risk of permanent infertility from 40% to 20%.
Everyone is different, I hope you get good advice and are able to make some decisions which give you peace of mind.
