I understand the anger over the jokes -- my college roommate was killed on 9/11 -- but I think it was merely an attempt to diffuse a tense thread and was not making light of terrorism.  We all make jokes about cancer too, as much as we hate it and mourn our lost sisters.

Tossing in my two cents worth here...joking about death and danger may seem ghoulish to some, but it is a crucial coping mechanism that is used in all societies--always has been there, and always will.   There are many studies that indicate that people who can joke about morbid happenings are overall better able to cope with mind-blowing tragedies, especially persons who deal with life and death on a daily basis.

That being said--I do not make light of any of the personal concerns posted.

on 9/11, we had a son who was on a flight--we were terrified until we knew the location of the last plane....when OKC fed bldg was bombed, I was a manager in a fed facility many miles away--no way to describe the tension I was under to suddenly be put on "bomb patrol" in my area and try to quietly and calmly tell employees to take their personal belongings and leave the facility...

...just trying to say that certain tragedies have affected me personally and deeply, but I could still get a chuckle out of the joking comments that were made and accept them (and could have added a few).

lastly, just want to say that I am curious how/why the "community" can cause a post to be deleted.   I know--intent initially was to help eliminate true spammers... This is moving beyond cancer thread and any topic should be up for grabs--if you read something and don't like it--move on.   Go to another thread--or, sit on your hands--which I've done many times and probably should have this time!

gentle hugggsssss to all...off my soap box for now!!!!
