Need helpful tips for bathing suits.

Options

Hi ladies! In 2 weeks will be my 1 yr wedding anniversary and DH surprised me with a trip to Jamaica. I currently have no swimwear suitable for my breastless body. I wear a size 0, XS and I cannot find any mastectomy swimwear online that is in my size. What options do I have besides wearing a big tshirt or going without breast forms (something I'm not confident enough to do yet)? Would Nordstroms sew pockets into swimwear? Thanks for any advice!

    Hi She-ra,

I've heard that Nordstrom will sew pockets into swimwear that you purchase from them. I don't know if they carry mastectomy swimwear in the store. My local fitter carries some mastectomy swimwear, but as with Nordstrom, they might not stock a wide range of sizes.

I did sew pockets into a couple of swimsuits myself recently.  I ordered pockets at www.tlcdirect.org and they are quite inexpensive, but I have found their regular shipping to be rather slow, so you might have to spring for faster shipment. I just hand sewed them into one bathing suit I had and another tankini top that I purchased to go with bottoms I had.

We're all different in what kind of swimsuit works for us.  I have one implant and one flat side and I find that the style that hides everything I need to hide best is a bandeau style.  I haven't found anything else that I think is flattering to my body and covers enough to withstand scrutiny. Some other styles are OK on me, but if anyone looked closely they'd be able to tell something is not quite right there. But if there is one thing I've learned in my BC journey, is that people are not scrutinizing our appearance as much as we think they are.

What a sweet hubby you have! Good luck with your swimsuits and have a wonderful trip.

    She-ra,

I just bumped up an earlier thread about bathing suits. Check out the post(s) by Raye99. She's very small, too, and has found some good solutions.

I think Nordstroms would sew pockets, at least if you buy the swimsuit there. If it's an older swimsuit, you could probably get a seamstress to do it for you. I'm small too, though not quite as small as you, and share your frustration. Most of the mastectomy suits are a B cup or larger. I ordered an Anita A cup and it's still larger than I'd like. The Lands End tankinis work pretty well. You might check them out. Read through the earlier thread and hopefully you'll find something that will work and look great, too.
