    Girls, I am in a state of shock!!!  A pleasant one, though.

    I just received the new LLBean Woman's Fashions demi-catalog and, guess what???  LL has entered the 21st century!  Updated styles, fabrics, colors, really lots of cute things and the prices are still the reasonable LL prices. 

    Wow, will wonders never cease?

    I haven't checked their website yet to see how it looks and if there are all these cute, new things there.

    One bad thing.  Almost all the tops have those low v-necks which don't work for so many of us WITHOUT my bra dickies, ta da.  Another reason to get brused up on my sewing skills.

    V-Necks bite (unless you have a cami under) - my personal opinion, of course.

    My shopping trip was not a success; they didn't have my size in the jeans I liked in regular length; the long was waaayy too long. After trying on 5 pairs of jeans, there was no time for handbag shopping.

    Barbe-  you have done some very interesting things in your time. What is the most unusual job you've had?

    Went thru closet recently and got rid of at least 85% of what was there...too big or to depressing, worn out, stains, holes etc.  At least I have had fun replacing things- lost enough weight so that things fit soooo much better and I have options. Forgot how much fun shopping can be Kiss

    Let's see, jobs: drove a tractor trailer across North America (just to get away!), Auxiliary Police Constable for Toronto Police (7 years!), sold cars, sold phone systems, sold furntiure, sold appliances, (you get the idea...)

    Oh Sheila, can you post a pic of the quilt? It sounds absolutely priceless (figuratively AND literally!)! And you have a 95 year old grandmother? How lucky is that?!

    Raye...Express sometimes has a small selection of bags. A coworker found a bunch of gorgeous ones at Kohl's recently. I like the selection at TJ Maxx an have found some that I like at Target too.

    Oh yes Marin - TJ Maxx is my very favorite place for bags. I may just have to go there today. Maybe they will have some jeans for my weirdo shape.

    Congrats! KAK. That's great news.

    I love TJ Maxx--except that it requires some time to find the gems, at least the clothes gems. The bag gems are a little easier to locate because there aren't as many. I found a fabulous pencil skirt at TJ Maxx that cost me $15 but looks really expensive and fits great. I need to go back and look again. I want some flat or low-heeled sandals, but with some support, but without that support look. These days it kills my legs to walk around in flat flat flats.

    I love TJ's so much that my dh even scopes out a new town to see where it is!  He's really impressed that I collected my' double size set of Chantal cookware by going to various TJ's in all the towns I met clients.  LOL

    Also love Tuesday Morning for everything but clothes.  I have about given up on outlet shoppping--the name brands just have less quality with their label in a lot of the outlets.   Brooks Brothers even owned up to it.  Liz claborn is the same as well a many more.

    Marshall's is apparently owned by TJ's cause they seem to have a lot of the same things. 

    all those stores are like treasure hunts!

    What a waste of a shopping day. I was so excited about going to the mall with a G/C to Macy's from my mom. I tried on so many things, and ended up with one cute black and white 3/4 sleeve swing coat- with no buttons, just one hook and eye at the center. It's something I could wear over a shell with black pants to work. It's really cute, but I can't believe that's all I found. Nothing fit, and I felt like I could hear Stacy and Clinton from What not to Wear screaming in my ear-- don't pick that shirt up-- it will do nothing for your body type.

    I did get a pair of earrings that were a steal at $20.

    Raye- I passed by Aldo, and saw the cutest bags ever. I didn't even want to go in, b/c bags are not what I need to spend money on right now-- but they were SUPER cute, and Aldo's bag prices are always reasonsable.

    Hi, girls.  Have been pretty tired all week, recuperating from the stress of the last few weeks.  But yesterday I got out & about, and managed some retail therapy.  So, here are the best items.  The boots are actually from the trip that netted the famous red peep-toe heels.  The hat is from yesterday, however & is one of those ones with a brim you can twist as you wish.  The expresso cups are French & I got an Italian expresso maker (stove-top kind, not pricey) to go with them.  The other tea-cups in the background have been collected over the years.  I may wear the dress tonight to a little theatre thing I'm going to.

    Beth, the coat sounds fab.  How's the new job going?   I love swing coats, any year, any era, any color. 

    Tina, I feel our spring shopping trip coming on!

    Marin, how are you feeling & healing?

    Kathi, what delicious goodies!  Love the shoes, the cups, the bag, everything.  The best thing is that you are getting back to being yourself.

    Would it be crazy for me to buy a new $2400 serger/coverstich machine if I really use it?  I'm on the brink of doing something like that.

    Tina, you do NOT have to spend that much on a serger! I used to sell them! The one at that price probably threads itself by air, right? Until you know if you'll love it, buy a less expensive one at a place that will let you "upgrade" if you decide to. IMHO, of course...

    barbe, such a small world!  We have really been on a roll.

    I do have a serger.  A Janome 634 something, several years old.  It is my second one.

    I am totally happy with it; it has not given me a bit of trouble.  The thing is, I have decided I want a coverstitch machine, too. 

    Almost all the reviews and opinions I have read have said that it's best to have two separate machines as both can be set up all the time and you don't have to waste time switching back and forth between modes and it's more convenient when you want to use both techniques on the same garment.  Okay, I get that and I was looking for a separate machine.

    Then, I stumbled onto the Babylock Evolve.  Everyone says they love theirs.  I went to a shop yesterday and had a demo and this baby is a beauty.  Takes about five seconds to switch back and forth between modes and also much simpler to set serger up for rolled hems.  The "air threading" ain't too shabby, either.  Sigh.  It retails for about 2900.00 with the suitcase of attachments.  Most of them are about $100 apiece.  So, the sewing expo price was $2377 with the complete bag of goodies.  Nothing much more I would have to buy.

    Now, I could get me a nice Janome coverstitch 100 something for $599, plus another $100 for the binder attachment, plus whatever else I want.  Yeah, that still totals a lot less than the $2377.00 but the Evolve was SOOOOOO NICE.  LOL  A saleman's dream, that's me.  Sometimes.  Other times I am a tight-fisted Yankee.

    Well, okay.  I didn't buy it on the spot.  Shows I have some resistance, right?  I am going to another shop during the week to look at it there and check out their price.  They said they couldn't give it out over the phone (of course) but it was a SUBSTANTIAL discount.  So, how much could that be?  $2000???  Less??? Or the same $2377 as the first shop?  What's your guess?

    BTW, the gal who owns the shop I went to has had it open about five years but she grew up on the industry as her parents have had a shop for umpteen years and both her brothers have shops now in the same state.  They do all their own repairs.

    Oh, gawd.  I really don't want to spend that much but I could "section 179" it.

    Here's the Janome CoverPro 1000CP I am also interested in.  I like the fact that it has a free arm for small areas, sleeves, etc.  They say it is also very easy to thread that darned looper!  This is the $599 machine plus the extra $100 for one size binder attachment.

    Tina, without even looking, I would go for the Janome. Babylock is WONDERFUL, don't get me wrong, just an overkill unless you've got money to burn...do you?

    I could twist your arm for the $599 one though......Tongue out

    Hi ladies, this is my first post on this thread...I looooove fashion.Well who doesn't , anyways, I don't know if it is the warmer weather,the days being longer but I have had the urge to shop! And..I have. I picked up a couple of maxi dresses, and shoes and handbag. I don't have my actuall photos but I will post from what I find on the net. BRB...

    Love, love, love the bag, lexi.  It looks orange online but you say it's khaki?  I'd love orange, too. LOL

    Wait until Raye sees those sandals!  She is crazy about the gladiator look. 

    And, the dress is wonderful.  Are you wearing it "out" or is it for poolside? 

    Geez, it has been hot all of a sudden here this weekend.  NOT complaining but I am not prepared, clotheswise.  I suddenly realized I need new around-the-house sandals (hate hot feet) and some shorts and cropped pants that are cooler weight than my usual jeans.  I get that hot, sweaty waist feeling and it's all over for me.  Maybe I will actually look for stuff with a low waist to keep myself cooler.  Perhaps a trip to Target on Wednesday when I go to town. 

    barbe, I think, in my heart of hearts, you are right.  I need to be talked out of such an extravagant purchase.  Actually, there are a couple of things I like better about the Janome:  free arm (for sleeves) and wider "throat."  So, there.  I am talking myself out of the Babylock.

    You know, there is a soon-to-be-discontinued Janome, the 900CP, that I can get for only $399, but it only does a 5mm  double seam; I like the 1000CP because it does both 3mm and 6mm.  The narrower one would be better for lingerie and dressier things.
