Did any of you find a lump in your underarm area?
I've been feeling a lump in my underarm area for a while now. I set up an appointment to see my oncologiest - my yearly just a little earlier than needed - so he could feel it and give me his opinion. The only issue is that I have scar tissue on that side so its hard to tell. I don't feel anything like it on the other side. Just curious about your experience with this. THANKS!

Maybe it is just scar tissue or lymphodema. Also a node could be swollen for a number of reasons that are not cancer related! Hang in there. I'm glad you made an appointment to check it out!

Jill,
Here's hoping it's just some pesky benign thing!

Jill,
I originally found my cancer by feeling a lump in my underarm. That lump was pretty big while by actual breast tumor was tiny and deep so wasn't palpable. Although the lump under my arm did turn out to be cancer..... Marsha is right in saying that it could be swollen nodes from many things other than cancer. My lump was kind of like a large marble and I had to hold my arm at a certain angle to feel it. If you can feel it with your arm at any angle I would think it more likely scar tissue or maybe lymphadema? Have you had surgery on that side?

That area has never felt right to me since they took out my lymph nodes. I am sure it is nothing.
(and no, it did not come back there).

I'm sorry to hear about your lump. I had a L mastectomy 12 weeks ago, and found a lump under my arm last Tuesday. My surgeon thought it was just scar tissue, but had me in the next day for a fine needle biopsy and the results are suspicious so I have to have another one tomorrow. If the result is OK I am SO having a party.... I just started chemo and thought I was doing great with healing after the surgery. If it is a recurrence, the options are that the chemo could shrink it, if not, then possibly another operation; (unlikely because the original dissection was extensive); radiation; possibly another round of chemo. I understand how scary this situation is for you (it certainly freaks me out) and I would advise you to get it checked out right away. The sooner you know what it is, the better you can deal with it. Very best of luck, my thoughts are with you!

How did your appointment go? You did the right thing by calling the doctor to make an appointment. I have a problem with asking myself, "What if I go and it is nothing? I will feel like a hypochondriac or an idiot." This is a stupid, egotistical thing for me to do. You did what needed to be done: If there is any question at all, get it checked by your doctor. I hope it all went well and that it was scar tissue.

He felt the "lump" too and ordered and MRI to make certian. I just had the MRI today (Tues) so I should know the results in a day or two. My onc gets back to me really quick. Stupid me tho - I was standing by the door to the MRI waiting to be walked out and looked at the screens. There was a breast MRI on the screen. I could see the contrast leading up to a cirle. Now that means NOTHING since I have no clue what a breast MRI good or bad looks like. But of course I'm wondering now. I acknowledge that was stupid
