Crafts after BC is good for the soul

I hope you get it figured out, would love to see it.
I let the baby ducks outside in their big pen for a while this afternoon since it was so hot. My DH kept getting them grubs and one would hurry up and eat it and not share with the others. they drink so much water, one climbed into the bowl so had to pull it out of the pen a little so he couldn't get in it. It was so much fun watching them, they will look you right in the eye when you talk to them and cock their head sideways like they understand you. They have such different personalities.

Spar, plastic canvas has the holes already there, and is worked like cross stitch with a dull tapestry needle. I take one rectangular piece, anywhere from 25 to 45 "holes" high and about 65 holes long. Work the pattern, then take a 4 inch circle and stitch enough to make it effective as a coaster. Wrap the rectangular piece around the circle and stitch with either matching or contrasting yarn.
I have seen a knitted or crocheted water bottle holder, with a shoulder strap, but I have never knitted or crocheted. 2 bones were removed from my wrist, so it is "unstable". The plastic canvas can be undone easily if a mistake is made. Things without sharp edges or sharp needles work best for me.

Does anyone do afghans with the monks cloth? I did one many many yrs ago but I can't find patterns for the cloth anymore??
-

I thought I would try it again and it worked!!!!! Here is the photo of the satin/silk Christmas wall hanging (36" x 36") I made a couple of years ago for my office. It doesn't show much detail but I put gold lame' on the top of each for the caps of the ornaments and gold cord as the hangers for the ornaments. 2 of them have gold tassels on them and it was appliqued by machine with gold thread.
I am working on another smaller one (aprox 18" square) all hand work made out of vintage 1930's hankies and embellished with buttons all from my great aunt and great grandmother's estates for my grandmother's 95th birthday.
I don't usually go for the full size quilts but stay with the wall hanging sizes for my hand quilting and also make baby/crib quilts and crib sheets for the local crisis pregnancy center.
I will try and take more photos and post later.

Here is a photo of my valentine wall hanging. The blocks were the block of the month from my local quilt guild in 2006 that I won in the drawing. I assembled them into the 9 patch design and hand quilted around all the hearts. I finished it in time for Valentine's day 2007.

lvtwoqlt, they are beautiful, just gorgous. So glad you got the pictures to come up.
Miki, I don't even know what a monks cloth is, will have to google that.
lefty, I can get a picture in my mind now, they sound pretty cool, may have to try and make some for this summer.
Curliqe, thanks, that avatar is for earth day, will probably change it in a while. So glad to see you post and thanks for the compliments.
everyone have a great crafting or fun filled day.
-

Here is a picture on how my ducks are growing, like little weeds. The yellow one is funny and gentle, the brown one is aggressive and trys to run and hide behide the other 2, the one with the black spot on his back will look you right in the eye and cock his head like he is really listening. I love those crazy ducks so much already. I have a mammogram sceduled for Tuesday and am going by atwood and see if they have anymore brown ducks and get one more. Haven't got any crafting done today at all. Maybe this evening, got to leave at 2 to pick up grandson for dental appt. happy day.
-
Spar: you can google "plastic canvas crafts" and see basic instructions if you need. It is a no brainer kind of craft, but good for me. I have made a few with mini flag and red/white/blue designs. You can do names or initials and almost any kind of design you want.
The ducks are soooo cute, are they noisy? And the wall quilts are beautiful. My coordination, or Lack of, would never allow me to do one of those by hand. I often say I am so talented I cannot even draw a straight line with a ruler ... !!!
-
The quilts are lovely Sheila!
Ducklings are too cute, always wished I had a pond for ducks.
Did way too much sewing yesterday (although it seemed like a good idea at the time) and my hands, elbows and shoulders are very cranky with me today

Will try to blow up enough balloons today to fill dd's car (its her 18th bd) plan is to fill car during school day SURPRISE after school

Hope all is well today
-
Lovely quilt hangings Sheila...what a neat idea to make them for the different holidays!
EWB...what a great idea...filling dd's car with balloons! Took me back to the time I let my dd drive my car to school, her dad and I picked up a used car for her and drove it to the school parking lot...we parked it right next to my car and surpised her when she came out! She was shocked to see her dad, brother and myself in the car and then we pointed to her car with balloons on the windshield...what fun!
Love the ducks, we have a pond out back and almost every year we have ducks visit on their way to the parks pond. They're sooo darn cute!
Love coming on this thread and seeing everyones talent...I love to wood work and my brothers got me a new laser SKIL saw for my get well gift after my surgery! ha! Here's a few things....

-
I am at the reception desk at work and have a beige blank wall behind me, I didn't like the mirror that was hanging there so I make wall hangings to put in it's place and change them through-out the year. I have a couple of 'cheater cloth' hangings that I hand quilted, one has images of light houses from around the country with the center one Cape Hatteras and the background looks like grey storm clouds I quilted that one with black thread, the other one is a whimsical/Mary Englebright style with a flag in the middle and the saying 'forever be true to the red white and blue'. They are both about 35" x 45", the light house hangs portrait and the flag hangs landscape.(cheater cloth is pre-printed fabric panels that you don't have to do any piecing to complete). I don't know if I will be able to post any more photos, I had problems with photobucket and the office network not wanting to cooperate and my boss has made photobucket off limits.

mikita5; The monks cloth aphgans you are referring to are called Swedish Huck Weaving. If you google it there are dozens of patterns. Hope this helps.
-
thank for chipping in gibby, do you do crafts? We would love to have you join us.
last night i stayed up late and was on a roll so here are my 3 newest babeez.

We moved the ducks out to the small pen with a little house built on it today. boy, is the house quieter and smells so much better. Right now it smells like pinesol but all the windows are open airing everything out. We are on a cleaning rage this morning. My son will be in from Maryland tonight and want everything nice and clean. This will be the first time he has stayed in the new house. Everyone have a good crafting day. Am looking forward to more pictures and ideas from everyone. hugs and love. Sherry

Hey, I am finally started on the jungle bedroom look, I want some pots for my plants that are lions or elephants and make the jungle quilted wall hanging and it will look even better.

-
Hi Spar2!
Yes I do alot of crafts. Probably to many as lately I haven't been finishing them all. I quilt alot and I like to sew for my daughter. She is a nurse and always in need of scrubs. I knit, crochet and try anything once. I've enjoyed seeing all of the crafts you girls do. You are a talented bunch!
-
AFter the loss of my baby ducks, I made another necklace to try to get mind off of it, will post it later when I have more energy.
-
come on out and play jazzygirl, I am missing you. I am working on a masterpiece of a necklace today until my son gets back from visiting other relatives. Still working on some 7 x 9 squares.
Everyone have a wonderful Sunday afternoon.
-
Hello Sunday Night Crafters!
SPAR. I love the necklaces. The blues and greens are my favorite colors.
Can you guess why? Your room decor looks so pretty.
Just got home from San Francisco and the cities hills of fun.
It was a perfect day in the City today. Sunshine. Great temps. Gentle breezes.
Streets closed off for skating and family fun.
Then stopped in Corte Madera at our favorite shops and the Cheesecake Factory for desert.
About our baby animals.
We who have farms and or property with animals and all sorts of Doolittle creations have
lost our share to a number of horrific reasons.
One thing we did after the first "break in" was to put huge boulders and rocks all around
the perimeter of their pen.
We placed the rocks and boulders half into the soil and half up the wire wall so that a fox, dog,
skunk, whatever cannot get into their domain.
So far so good. But before we did that, something did get in and took six baby chicks.
It is heart breaking. It even is sad to watch the pecking order when a new duck, goose
or hen is introduced into the group.
CANDIE. That's a riot some of the "Housewive's" are clients.
Are they as brass talking
as on the preview show? The one sister is out there.
ARNIE. Love the woodworking crafts.
I have a friend that worked on a huge doll house
stationed in her living room for years. I
think she didn't want to finish it as it was so much
fun for her. She did finish it and still has it. It had the tiniest details.
Do you make those type crafts?
Hi JO. GIBBY. CURLIEQ. CELIA. SIERRA.
I brought treats for all from one of the fun shops in the Ferry Building in the City.
Enjoy !

I already sampled mine.
XOXO.
-

Hey sister crafters. Sorry I have been gone but I've been having incredible fun. Have I mentioned how much I love spring with the sun out and warm temperatures. Its so hard to stay indoors after such a long winter.
Sparbiedoll, I'm so sorry about your baby ducks.

I had the most amazing thing happen to me this morning. I was at the gym this morning walking the treadmill trying to lose this santa belly when a lady walked by with some very nice sports gloves on. You know the kind with the ends for the fingertips to stick out. I asked her if she minded telling me where she got those and as we chatted, we both discovered that we are breast cancer survivors and started talking.
This lady was in great shape working with the weight machines and the other equipment. We were both lamenting the loss of estrogen and the onset of osteoporosis and what we were doing to stay in shape. It turns out she is 70 years old!!!!! She was in incredible shape: spry, agile, lifting weights and she looked like she was in her 50's. I told her that I wanted to be her when I grew up! I was so encouraged that life can still be good even after surviving bc and being 70 years old.
I love all those necklaces but especially the white one. Very classy looking. Welcome to all the new crafters.

Sahalie... San Francisco...mmmmmm sounds great! So sorry to hear about your baby chicks
We had a similar problem with a raccoon getting our Koi from our pond a few summers ago. Sad... I do all types of woodworking... The first pic is the barn finished...it has lights at night. The second pic is of the cats and deer that I do...third pic was inspired because I do feel so blessed to be surrounded by good friends and wonderful family. I do some commission work, but limit it because I don't want it to turn into a job...
Spar2... Love the necklaces...my favorite is the purple blue and green. Do you sell any? Or like me do you do it just cause you love it?
Candie... so glad to hear that your stitches will be coming out on Friday. I've watched the whole season of Housewives of NY. Ramona drive me bonkers! ha!
HAVE A GOOD EVENING LADIES...
Janet -
Mikita,
You may want to find the cloth you are looking for in a store that sells counted cross stitch supplies. I have also seen packages of it at Michaels and JoAnns in the counted cross stitch area. I'm sure you can also find it online, although that is not where I think of first. It probably would be cheaper for me if I did since I then would not even walk into either of the other stores.
SPAR, did something happen to the little ducks that you showed the picture of? I tried to read back on the thread but didn't see anything. They are so cute!
When I was in pre-vet med at Michigan State many years ago, we had a poultry class where we learned to "de-beak" baby chicks so they would not peck each other to death. I stupidly asked what was going to happen to the cute little yellow ball of fluff I was holding and the instructor said they were all put down as their only purpose was for the class. Well!!! My little chick promptly went into my hat (it was early Feb) and went home with me. I was living with my aunt and uncle and it slept next to me on my pillow that first night then went home with me for the weekend back to the Detroit area. It was so cute following me around but started to get big VERY quickly. It ended up going to a friend, who was also a student and lived on a farm, with the promise it would never end up as chicken dinner. He kept his chick also. That was my one and only experience with baby poultry. I would love to live somewhere where I could have ducks but every year we have a momma duck that come with her significant other to lay her eggs in the bushes. We watch them waddle off after they hatch, heading for the nearby Rouge River tributary, a small creek here in the subdivision. There are always lots of Canada geese families with their babies in the spring too.
I hope your three little ones are fine and getting bigger every day.
I have so enjoyed seeing everyone's crafts. Unfortunately, it has yet to inspire me to get up and get going but I'm hoping for any day soon. I do have to get a quilt done in pinks & greens for a breast cancer fundraiser at the end of June. We belong to a classic car club (we have a 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner) and one of the club members is putting it together. She came up to the hospital and sat with my DH and sister for my 10 1/2 surgery last August. I need to go thru my stash or I could just go get some new fabric. That sounds more fun! I'm just having a hard time deciding what pattern I want to do. It only has to be the size of a throw so it shouldn't take too long. Once I actually get sewing, it's hard to stop. I may be heading to CA the beginning of June to help fit the uniforms for the drum & bugle corps that my DS will be marching in so I really need to get going on the quilt and get it finished before then.
I'm going to try to get DH to help me post my pictures of my quilts when he gets a chance. I'll use the directions that have been given in past posts. Wish me luck!
Hope everyone has a wonderful evening doing what they love to do.
Blessings,
Wendy

Look what I found.

We could make these. I think I'll start throwing odds and ends into a shoe box and when
I feel like making a card or gift tag I'll be ready.
JO. Don't know about the food animals. I have never seen any thing like those.
CANDIE. What time on Friday. Can't wait to hear you are OK and no discomfort.
Hugs and prayers to you too.
JAZZY. I am so remiss on crocheting squares. I promise I will do them.
I love to crochet.
When I begin I will shout out to you OK.
What a fun encouraging story about the 70 year old lady.
JANET. HWNY Ramona is way to hyper. She is ADD for sure.
I feel sorry for her daughter.
The husband is iffy.
What's up with OC's Gretchen even being on the OC show? She isn't married.
Neither is Kelly the new one on HWNY. Can't wait for the group end show with Andy.
I love Jeff on FLIPPING OUT. He is totally whacked out.
Can't wait for that one to start up again. He is a riot.
Side note. I'm not making light of people with ADD.
My son was dx in grade school and was on Ritalin. I took him off it in first grade.
He is wonderful and I question the dx anyway.
But. Ramona is just plain wierd and on something.
CANDIE has to deal with the New Jersey HW's. Where's Tony Soprano when you need him?
-
Sahalie, oh man that picture made me want REAL chocolate.
Thanks everyone for compliments on my necklaces, no don't sell any, I am just having a blast making them (and wearing them) I use to never wear jewelry except for my gold band, the diamond is put away and hasn't been worn in years.
Jazzy girl, that 70 year old lady sound so inspirational, I keep thinking man if she can do it at that age, I need to get off my butt and start moving around and quit eating what I want. Another 4 or 5 weeks I will get to meet you in person and am so excited but scared you won't like me in person. I know that is stupid but I am nervous. Am I being silly?
Arnie, love all the woodwork. That is a real talent.
JO, your painting is a true talent, It is something I would love to do but can't even make a charcoal drawing that looks like anything. My DH can paint but he has to be "in the mood" which he hasn't been in 10 years. LOL
Sunkistmi, no my babies are all dead now, my miniture weinie dog killed them and ate them. Food is out all the time for him so I know it wasn't hunger, my mom says it is just in that kind of dogs nature, they were bred to hunt. But they are so cute and little I didn't think that was true, but when I looked them up they are used for hunting and digging animals out of their holes.
I am not getting anymore ducks until I can be 100% sure they are safe. We have raised them in the house and had gotten so big they could jump out of a huge box, we had to keep something over the top so we decided since it was so warm to let them spend the day outside in their pen. We had built 2 pens but we used the covered one so no hawk or anything could swoop down and get them. So they died their very first day outside.
Well, I am going to visit the humor section and then get busy doing something. Hugs and goodnight. Sherry
-
You two are meeting? No fair : (
Since this is the craft thread would someone please come up with a crafty cushion for
the soothe and comfort of sitting a little too long at the wheel.
Gratis.
Larry King is doing a tribute to Bea Arthur. I love the "Golden Girls" reruns.
Rest in Peace Dorothy.
