I've learned that what people think of you is none of your business! It's very freeing to actually believe that.

I don't know if I could suscribe to that theory.  When people ask what super power would you have, if you could choose one? My answer is that I would love super hearing-to be able to hear conversations that happen very far away-- or to be a fly on the wall in any conversation and hear what is going on.

    How silly is that?

Okay- so what's yours? If you could have any super hero power, what would it be? And curing cancer, or ending war is not a super hero power-- so pick something fun. tee hee

Beth I hate knowing what people think of me because then I want to defend myself! (Obviously I think they think the worst..)

I would like to be able to FLY! That's why when I die and get cremated I want to be tossed to the winds from a very high place so I can finally fly!

How IS your job going? Haven't heard from you on that front yet.

Well, the secret, aggressive Tina has always wished she had a laser weapon that could zap obnoxious drivers when they do things like cut her off or flip her the finger or such.  Now you know.

barbe, your newest avatar is super-terrific!  Love those dangly earrings on you.  You look like you're all gussied up to go out someplace special.

Janet, several of us luv luv luv tha athleta catalog and I, personally, have lusted over some of their dresses.  I don't think they are at all extreme (on the slim-fitting side) if you have the figure for their stuff.

As far as what people think of me, I have always subscribed to the notion that opinions are like belly buttons (a--holes, in a less pc version).  Everybody has one.  Besides, I generally think my taste is better than other peoples'. I'm right; they're wrong.  LOL  How's that for attitude?  Well, it's kept me going for 61 years.

Kathi, Happy, Happy Birthday to youuuuuuuuuuu.  So, the Easter bunny brought you?  I know it's probably hard to ignore the upcoming mammo, but I hope you have a perfectly wonderful day.

Beth, how's the new wardrobe working out at the new job?  And, are you loving it?  You must be exhausted after these first coupla weeks.  That's always so intense.

Edited to say that I *do* feel sad when I know someone doesn't like me but I manage to get over it.........

I'm sitting at my desk right now-- bored out of my mind. The wardrobe is working out well, but my feet definitely hurt from being back in heels all day. It's pouring outside today, and it's such a waste of a day here. Most of the bosses/partners all have been away for days b/c of the holidays. I was the one who pretty much got the crummy end of the stick and had to work all week.  I am leaving early to head to Lincoln center for a piano recital this evening.

I haven't been on my treadmill in 2 weeks, (since I started here) and I've been eating a bagel for breakfast every day on my way into work-- SO THIS IS NOT DOING A BODY GOOD!!!

have to head down to the main part of the club-- be back soon

BETH - I can relate. I have not had any real exercise since my last surgery (2-1/2 weeks ago) except for one day on the treadmill. And last weekend I went on an eating jag. So now I have a not-so-little stomach bulge I need to work off. What can I say? A woman's work is never done...;-)

TINA & BARBE1958 - I'm feeling less concerned already about other people's opinions. It helps to VENT! Thanks for listening!

I've decided I'm not going to order that dress from athleta.com until I lose 5 to 10 lb. Perhaps that will motivate me. I am pscyched for summer to be here! I missed it last year!

EVERYBODY - Happy Easter / Passover!

Janet, I'd say to order it in a smaller size, but I have never had that motivate me before....sigh. I have 2 weddings this year for 2 of my kids. You'd think that would motivate me to get thin. No, I get my breasts cut off instead! Now I'll be there with the ex-husband and his Barbie-doll wife...sigh again.

Meant to say, Beth, that I'm pretty bored this weekend too! But as I type I look so important and busy that I just have to stay on this site all day...glad you have no bad surprises about your job. You just haven't had your first paycheque yet have you? You'll feel better then. Keep us posted!

    Ugh. Wardrobe malfunction.

One of my new pairs of pants... don't know if I mentioned them already. But I loved them cause they are summer weight, and fit very well. The first day I wore them, I came home and there was a one inch tear along the seam in the leg. I should've went to macy's and exchanged them, but had them fixed instead.

Wore them last week, and sorry for the TMI but when I was using the bathroom, and I was looking down at the pants, I noticed that the stitching and construction looked very poor. I could see through the stitching, and see the floor of the bathroom.

So I have them dry cleaned, and wear them today. The good news is that I was wearing a long tunic top with them. The other good news is that the malfunction happened at the very end of the day, and the only people left at work were me and my boss.

They split on the seam in the arse!!! It's about 2 inches. I'm bummed. They are not too tight in the rear. I did not sit on anything that could have torn them. And I'm going to take them to my tailor this week, but I'm debating over fixing them or tossing them.

    thoughts?

Try and return them. They were poorly constructed and even if you've worn them and had them fixed, I would still try. Maybe not mention you wore them. You tried them on, noticed the tear in the leg and had them fixed. Now you go to put them on and find that the arse seam has split.

I am not the type to wear something and take it back, don't get me wrong; but in this instance, the product is faulty and poor. They need to go back home to Macy's.

I think you should take them back to store!  Just think about how much you've had to repair NEW pants, shouldn't happen so often in a short period of time. I would be very honest- wore them several times, had to repair each time. That is just unacceptable in my book.

Absolutely take them back!  They should not give you any heat.  Don't spend another penny on them and don't throw them out.  This is ridiculous.  I'm glad you didn't flash any customers!

Poor quality fabric and poor construction are everywhere these days.  I love to catalog shop but the safest thing is really to go in person and feel the goods.  That's why I'm going shopping today!!!  A Boston area mall, so hopefully they will have lots more to choose from than at the hick-y malls around here.

Take them back and get them to reimburse you for the first repair! They should do something, like give you a discount on your replacement pair. They have to know it's faulty or they'll keep ordering that product and someone else will have the problem too!

    Thanks Raye...Kiss

    Fashionistas,

Does anyone have any recommendations on cute jeans? I am 5'6", but long torsoed and short legged. I typically wear Levi's, but am ready for a change. An inexpensive one.Would love some True Religions, but not in this economy. Any thoughts? Wouldn't mind a pair of skinny jeans, but with my short legs???

I don't know how cute they are but I swear by LLBean's

Double L® Jeans, Stretch Comfort Waist

in the stretch denim.  The stretchy part of the waistband is totally unobtrusive, esp. if you wear a belt or if your top covers it. LOL  I like them because I, too, am long-waisted, short-legged, and they fit my arse to a T.  They also go in enough at the waist so there is no gap which is what I get with a normal waistband if I fit my hips because my waist is so much smaller.  They don't cost an arm and a leg either and wear like iron.

Wear them with the right attitude and you will be sexy.  Or buy a size too small. LOL

Raye...No matter how many brands of jeans I try, I always go back to Express jeans. They have them in all sizes from 0 to 16 in short, regular and tall. I can ALWAYS find my size, 4 Tall, and notice that they always have the same in short. I'm not sure how high up the special lengths go, but you'll take a small size anyway. The models range from skinny to bootleg to flare. I don't think that they have anything like relaxed, but somehow I'm thinkin' that that's not where you're headed...Smile.

I'm having my own fashion crisis right now. None of my tops (like all 100 of them!) fit since my implant surgery and I'm so broke! I had better dust off the sewing machine, but how fast can I sew, huh? I wore a cami to bed last night and had to change when I found it was inhibiting my breathing!!I Ugh. But I'll quit my whining because, at this point, I wouldn't change anything at all and do love my new look!

Has anyone ever found good (clean) stuff at Goodwill? Undecided

Marin, do you really sew?  I just went to a sewing and quilting expo yesterday and was amazed at all the new, innovative products.  I'm thinking of dusting off the old machine and getting back with the program, mainly instigated by wanting to make those bra dickies.  I discovered a whole, new world of machine needles and threads, fusibles, etc.

I've never bought anything at Goodwill.  Actually, I don't even know where there IS a Goodwill.  Around here, we have a number of Salvation Army stores, though.  I've only donated there, not bought anything.

I'd wait a bit on buying much new in the way of tops as you will un-swell over the next few weeks and probably be a different size.  I have not had a chance to check out your new girls as I have forgotten my pw to Fumi's site.

I agree with Marin about express jeans, but if you're on a really tight budget, try Alloy jeans. They come in a million inseams and sizes, and I love the way they fit.

Marin- Do you have a Target, Kohls or Old Navy near you? I think you can find a few inexpensive tops to get you by while you're still swollen.  Anything stretchy will work well, as long as it's not 100% lycra or aerobic level clothing, b/c they will fit too tightly across your chest.

Tina- don't shoot me. I haven't taken the measurments yet, but I am going to do my best to get it done tomorrow. I promise.

Thanks Ladies. I think I might try the Express Jeans if they are not too much money. My future sister-in-law had the cutest pair of jeans on from there a couple of weeks ago, which looked great on her.

Yes, Old Navy had some cute cami style tops that were stretchy in pretty colors and they were not expensive, Marin. You should check it out.

A nice jean/chino is Gap...they have a curvy fit which has been GREAT for me since I also have smaller waist. They have a little stretch to them, wear and wash very well. I can easily dress up or down depending on heels, blouse, etc.

Another place for cute shirts and not expensive is H&M

Marin, I have actually found some nice clothing at goodwill that still have the manufacturers tags on them, some stores donate clothing directly to goodwill, sure it may be last years design, but the prices can't be beat. My husband's dear uncle was in a retirement community that was next to the salvation army store in town and he would go there and find items he thought others would want and pay next to nothing for it. I have a black on one side and grey on the reverse sweater poncho/drape (can't remember the correct name for it) that hangs on the shoulders, comes to the knee and has scarf ends that wrap around the neck that he gave me and I love it. It is perfect when a winter coat is too heavy but you still need something around your shoulders.

Ladies, I'm going to a sewing class tomorrow night.  I'm going to try to really learn how to use my serger and maybe my old sewing machine, too!  Can you believe I never change the needle?  Did not have a clue that it mattered unless it was broken.  LOL  Now I know.

Of course, now I will get sucked into more gadgets and maybe even a new SM.

On another topic, I just discovered where some of our fashion and makeup friends have disappeared to.  I'd been wondering what chased them away.  Now I know, but I do miss their contributions HERE.  Sigh.

I am not a big fan of change either, unless it has to do with temporary change of locale, such as a vacation.

You guys, I am going to Express today to get some jeans. I just hope I can find some that look cute on me. Will report back on this very intriguing topic.I also need a new bag for summer. My big pink purse is getting a tear on the inner lining which is driving me nuts and I don't sew.

Tina, I change my needle before I start a new quilting project. I have found that the sharper the needles the better the seam looks. I am finishing up a hand sewn project for my grandmother's 95th birthday in a month. It is an 18" square quilted wall hanging made out of vintage ladies hankies that belonged to her sister-in-law and mother-in-law. Some of the hankies still had the gift tags on them dated 1937-1939.

Which way did the other contributors go?

    Sheila
