Rachel and Beth, you guys look great!

NYDeb, at least you've gotten it over with.  I actually haven't done that much today.  I went for a long walk with a friend, and then hubby and I went out to lunch with her and her hubby.  My 6-year-old has baseball practice in 20 minutes, so we'll be leaving soon for that, and then maybe I'll take the boys out for pizza (the girl is dress shopping with her friend, she's never home lately).

What are you guys hearing about nutrition after cancer?  I want to do whatever I can, but I don't want to limit my diet to kale and shitacki mushrooms.

MichelleinSJ  I have just ordered a book from Amazon recommended to me by a client at work herself a survivor of Kidney cancer   http://www.amazon.com/Anticancer-New-Life-David-Servan-Schreiber/dp/0670020346/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1240005903&sr=1-1 it's written by a Doctor who was diagnosed with brain cancer 15 years ago, take a look at the link it also shows a short interview online of him talking about the book. It has amongst other things a useful guide to Anti cancer foods. I hear what you are saying about the limitations on foods, I was heartbroken when it was said chocolate was not a good thing unless it is Dark chocolate, have to retrain my taste buds on that one! I have a passion for digestive chocolate biscuits too! Also not good.

Well ladies my hair finally gave up today...came out by the handful as I washed it this morning...so I called my hairdresser and I'm off in the morning to join all you beautiful ladies who have already taken the plunge, then  I am going to 'baldly' go to work after, oh boy! I will post photos as soon as I can. At least I managed to get my drivers license renewed yesterday before the shedding, I decided to do it early, should have been next month.

The collywobbly's are building, Tuesday will be my 2nd Tx, hoping I get the same Nurse as last time she was spot on with the IV.

Francine Hope you're having an easy time since your 3rd Tx and you can have a great Birthday on Sunday.

    Sending healing thoughts to all...

Pickle, you look great, love the pic. I second Gina's reccomendation to shave it to skin if the stubble is bothering you. I'd shaved mine 3 times, every week or so since I've been bald. I still have some but it's sparse. I need to get some sun (just a little- don't want to burn with the taxotere) on my noggin so its not so shockingly white.

I had a stripe down my part where there was no hair when I shaved it. I also found out I have a scar on the back of my head I was unaware of. Even when i buzzed it 8 years ago i didn't cut it short enough for it to show. Tried to rack my brain for a childhood incident to expalin the scar- o h yes- wooden speaker cabinent, roughhousing with brother about age 9 or so. Bled for awhile.

My third tx was to be today, but I moved it to wed two ago-in hopes of being able to work yesterday and today and then days 4,5,6 are worse for me- have those fall over the weekend. I had hoped to work 13 hours between the two days (my normal thu and half day fri hours) left at 3pm yesterday and noon today-  a few hours short of my plan. Couldn't keep my eyes open anymore.

DH just cut up a pineapple and it is surprisingly good. It tastes kinda weird cause of the chemo and decadron, but not horrible and my body is saying- yes more of that please.

That's awesome about the shrinkage NYDeb! - seeing that kind of effect makes me feel better about taking chemo- when the tumor's already out it's hard to know for sure that you are doing the right thing by taking these horrible drugs to kill something that may or may not be there.

    Dear Ladies,

Oh, that does it.  I am a Christian, I'm human, and I'm ticked.

    "Apr 11, 2009 02:51 pm by crusader1"

How dare you, crusader1 (please! so unfitting) say that the boards are so friendly and supportive when you PM with venom.  Yes, you, and your snippy responses with hidden meanings.  So transparent.  No, no one was forthcoming with the information.  I'm not lying and God knows it, your opinion doesn't matter - and that has always been my point.  You don't give respect in this life, then you don't get it back - to a degree.  That's were mercy comes in.

PM'ing isn't mean to be a secret way to insult people - don't claim privacy and think there's something noble about being rude behind closed doors.  Christians don't advertise, they live the life, and if three words "Love in Christ" offend you, you have a lot to learn about all kinds of tolerance.

You are so cloying that it wasn't hard to see through you.  Get real, this is the Internet not elementary school in the sand box.  You are a mean person, and so, I shall leave my comments to more Jesus Christ friendly boards.

Love in Christ - He loves you, I have to work harder at it sometimes -  Goodbye to all on this board.

Pickle - Great pics.  I haven't captured any pictures of myself yet, though I did drive top down in my convertible today with my little bald head exposed for all to see.  I paused at the picture of your husband with you - I have some very good friends, and I'm pretty self-sufficient, but my husband and I have been separated for 2 years now, so no tender loving kisses of support for me.  Okay, boo-hoo, end of pity party.

Janet: You should definitely post some pics...one in the convertible would be great. What kind of car is it? Good for you for letting it all hang out! I am fortunate that I have been married to the same great guy for 26 years (it's hasn't always been easy...life is like that)  but never understimate the power of your dear friends and your strength in being independent and self sufficient. You can certainly get some cyber tender hugs of support from the great group  here. Thank goodness we have this forum. I can say things on here that I wouldn't share with my DH and my closest girlfriends.....sometimes they just don't get it!  We can have a pity party here anytime and  feel the support and hugs coming back. Cheers to your pity party...I am toasting you with a little sip of wine....and sending tender loving cyber hugs your way.

    Hugs

Thanks to all for the warm welcome back.  Coming back is rejuvenating for me!

Just curious... does anyone else refer to their friends on the Breast Cancer Board in conversations (real life ones, that is) other than me?  I'm beginning to wonder if my other friends are getting jealous of you ladies...

Also, I am absolutely LOVING the pictures.  Keep 'em coming!!!

Yep...I do momofboys.  I was showing a friend just today the pics of webwriter from the February Chemo.  I love the one where she's getting her last chemo and they have her stage a pole dance.  I think she sat and looked at some of them for my sake...but doesn't quite get the connection I have developed for this site.  It's the only place I can truly go and know someone gets it..ie. what I'm going through, etc.

Arnie... AND, don't you find that we can joke about things amongst ourselves here that we wouldn't joke about with our more casual friends?  Our bald heads is, of course, the prime example.

momofboys and arnie- It is weird how your new "normal" is something that no one except those going through it just like you understand!

My avatar is my new picture I had my hubby take after we shaved my head (along with a flower arrangement I just made :)  I was trying to add a before and after picture but I can't figure out how to put it in my post.  Help, anyone?

I felt so confident going around bald until I actually went "out" in public today, uncovered.  So many stares and it made me a little uncomfortable.  I wanted to say, "what, you have never seen a bald head before?"  But i didn't.  Then when we went to our small group from church tonight, the kiddos were asking me, "why did you cut all your hair off?" It was kinda cute and I just told them that I had to take medicine that makes it all fall out since I am "sick".  I hated using the word sick b/c I don't view it that way, but how do you explain cancer to 2,  3 and 4 year olds?  So "sick" was the chosen word.  Anyway, they took what I said and went on their merry way to play.  So funny how kids accept things so well!  Made me feel much better!

Pickle- I love your half-wig with the hat!  I am going to have to look into to getting one of those!

Hoping and praying that everyone has a SE FREE weekend!

Wow it's been almost 3 weeks since I have posted. Been reading tho.. #2 took me for a ride. 14 days of hell. ER, neutopenic fevor, sick as a dog...so different than #1. Wed is #3 and I'm scared to death to go back there. BF who has been at my side since the Dec DX is leaving for 2 weeks (to care for his 94 yr old mom). So that makes it scary. DD's BIG (200+) wedding is between #3 and #4 so that's scary...how do you learn to take it one day at a time?

GTY...nice pic    I understand completely about explaining to little ones.  I just shaved today and we went over to see the grandkids tonight and my 1 year old Lilah just rubbed my head and laughed.  The three year old Trent cried.  He told me to put hat back on... He cuddled with me again after I put the hat back on...hoping he gets used to it.

Kellerka...so sorry to hear about the hard time you've been having.  I don't blame you for being hesitant about going back...but do we have an option?  I guess that's the way to take it one day at a time...if we want to beat this dreaded desease we have to keep on keepin' on.  Not fun by any means....  I have #2 on Tuesday and not looking forward to it either...YUCK!  I have felt good for the last week and don't want to feel bad again...but!?!   I sure hope that we hear from you sooner this time after you're treatment....would hate to think you're going through **** again.

    Take care...and goodnite ladies

MOB and Arnie - completely agree. Even my closest and most supportive rock star friends 'dont get it' like you guys get it. I think you have to truly walk in these shoes to understand the ranting, be the listener and laugh at the jokes, to get it.

Arnie - sorry for the nudge...but so glad you obliged.Love the pics!

GTY -  I've been explaining a lot to my 6 year old and her classmates (Kindergarten) who alway asks. One kid asked me outright if I was sick. I tell him and the other kiddos that I have some bad cells in my body and need to take some strong medicine to make the bad cells go away. It is the strong medicine that caused my hair to fall out. My little guy is not quite 2 yet and I was really worried about his reaction to the bald. Solution: we all went outside on the patio to buzz my head. He was there playing while my brother did the deed. He has never had a problem with it...Oh, that's not true.  He really doesn't like the pink wigs!! AT ALL!! LOL. Oh - love your new Avatar!!

Kellerka - good to see you again! So sorry to hear about your miserable time. Is your dd wedding close to home? Just thinking that for as much fun as you'd like to have, you can always make a graceful exit when you are *done*. My mom did similar for my sister's70 person shin-dig. It was close to home...it was AT my parent's home! I don't know why mom agreed to host it. It was the week before her Tx #3 and and both Tx #1 and # 2 had been shere hell. She was in the ER a couple of times too.  But she let us do everything, she came, she smiled, she socialized a little bit and then left when she had had enough. Not sure if that was helpful (likely not) but from previous posts, it sounds as though your family and friends are supper supportive. That's what you need right now. No pressure.

This board has been great.  My DH actually asks me on a daily basis what's new, any good stories ect.  I find it deters me from boring friends with my thoughts and fears while still having an outlet.  I'm sure they appreciate that as much as I do.

Does anyone else go to any support groups?  I have not felt the need as I think this really fills that void.

NYDeb I'm with you, I did look around in my area for a local support group to in the begining but I happened upon this group whilst I was surfing the net and have not bothered since, I visit here every morning when I get up to see whats new and I talk about the Ladies on the board to friends and co-workers.I do have some difficulty keeping up sometimes though and perhaps don't post as much as some, confidence issues, but would like everyone to know how much help it has been to me, don't get me wrong I do have good support from my partner and friends, family as well in as much as they can being 5,000 miles away, it's tough, but as I said being able to visit here each day is a great help you are a great group!
