So sad

My mom has breast cancer and I am so scared. We thought she wouldn't need chemo (her cancer hasn't spread to the lymph nodes), but her oncogene test revealed that she has a very agressive form of cancer with a high risk of recurrence and metastasis. I know so many women go through this, but the thought of my beautiful, strong, active mom (she's 68) losing her hair and being so sick just breaks my heart. Her mom died of breast and ovarian cancer in her early forties. When I told my OB/GYN about my mother, she sent me for a mammogram--and now I'm scheduled for core biopsies in three locations. Ugh. This disease is so awful and so scary.

    Miranda.. I am very sorry!

I have done chemo. My family was freaking out about this too. I did ok... actually.. I was told I did way better than ok! Your mom will shine through this Miranda! God forbid you have anything.

We all hate this disease! But it is treatable today. Unlike when your grandmother had it. Then, it was not as treatable.

Remember.. 80% of us get better!!!!

God Bless and have your mom come here too. This is a great, great site with great, great women off all ages to go through this with!

I am so sorry about your mom. Please be assured that today's chemo is much more tolerable than in the past. I am just a few years younger than your mother and the worst side effect I had was extreme tiredness. The oncs prescribe wonderful meds to deal with most of the side effects. Please post on the Just Diagnosed Forum and you will get many more replies. Also, when she finds out what chemo regimen she'll be on, be sure to gather lots of info on the Chemotherapy Forum. Good luck to both you and your mom.

    Miranda,

I am very sorry to hear about your Mom.  It's devestating to hear that you or a loved one has cancer.   I know it's hard to, but try and look on the bright side.  At least they found your Moms agggressive cancer.  Now she can have her treatment and become a survivor.  68 is young, she has many years left in her!  I'm glad your doctor ordered a mam for you too.  Clearly a family history.  This is so difficult to go through, but the good news is, you will survive.  Try and be there for your Mom.  Learn as much as you can about the cancer she has.  Speak to the wonderful ladies on all these boards.  They offer a wealth of information and support.  I'll keep you and your mom in my prayers.

I feel for you. My fantastic 66 year old mum is dying from this dreadful disease.  She has been bravely fighting for 13 years now - she refused to accept the initial diagnosis in 1996 that the cancer was agressive.

She now has breast cancer in her bones, liver and now her brain.  They have stopped treating her liver as the chemo isnt working.  They are radiating her brain on Thursday.  She is all swollen from the steroids and confused from the cancer.

My fantastic mum is dying before my eyes and there is nothing I can do -watching her battling hard against this illness is the worst thing ever.

Look after your mum and make her believe the hair loss is nothing to worry about.  She can get through this and the hair will grow back.

My mums advice to anyone battling cancer is to believe that your mind is your strongest weapon.  It is stronger than any chemo, radiation or any other treatment.  If she had believed the drs she would be dead 13 years ago, she would have missed my wedding, her three grandsons and her 40th wedding anniversary with the love of her life.

Please Miranda, get your mum thinking positively.

    take care and good luck

     Rach

As a Naturopathic doctor I feel the sadness and pain you must be experiencing at this time.  We have so many beautiful women that come to our clinic with breast cancer.  Did you know there was no breast cancer before the invention of the brassiere.  The bra restricts the lymph system and the toxins build up.  There are 4 main causes of cancer and toxins is one of them.

Have you heard of the Budwig approach to Cancer.  That is what I recommend as it is very effective and totally natural. Here is just one testimonial of a person who used Budwig

July 10, '07 -  "I have had no surgery...no allopathic medicine whatsoever. The tumors in my breasts (both sides), have reduced by 70-80% over the last four months on the Budwig Program. I have regained 60-70% range of motion in my left arm (which was practically none). My right arm is at about 90%...I had about 50% range before Budwig" - Janice

If you would like to know more I would be happy to help you and answer any questions you might have.  Lloyd

    Hello

I can totally relate to you and what you and your mom are going through. My mom was 69 when dx with bc. She was very healthy and very active in her life. Exercised daily etc. Like your mom, my mom's cancer had not spread to her lymph nodes (stage I), but was a very aggressive cancer. She did have chemo and radiation to better her chances of survival. Yes, she lost her hair, her stamina....it was ugly. But guess what? It is four years later and she is happy and healthy like before her dx! :) She is thriving and her test continue to be clean.

You and your mom will be alright. Stay by her side and take good care of her through the treatments. She'll be here for you to enjoy for years to come.

    You'll be in my prayers.

Lloyd what do you mean there was no breast cancer before the invention of the brassiere?????What kind of bunk are you trying to feed these women????   There is scientific evidence of breast cancer BEFORE Christ was born....There are mummies from thousands of years ago found to have had breast cancer.....BRASSIERES don't cause breast cancer...Lymph node problems DON't cause breast cancer!>.......It is a GENETIC DEFECT......It starts at the cellular level not at the lymph level............People like you are DANGEROUS to cancer patients who are looking for a cure......There is NO cure for breast cancer as of yet because no one knows the exact CAUSE yet......When are people going to wake up and realize they are putting the cart before the horse by looking ofr a cure before finding the cause????........Ladies PLEASE DON"T LISTEN TO THIS GUY!!   ...He is just trying to sell a PROGRAM....He is in it for the money...... I reported this guy to the moderators.......
