Crafts after BC is good for the soul

Good morning Crafterswomen!  I hope everyone is having a good week so far.  I would never pay $100 for a used bike.  That was just the limit I set overall in my quest for a bike.  If I can't find one for $100 or even less then I won't get one.  I'm a very strict budget type person.  I set limits and won't go over.  Spar, that is a good idea about checking pawn shops!  I got a lightweight Singer sewing machine at a pawn shop once to take to quilting classes and it has been great.  The only thing it lacked was a 1/4 inch foot attachment.  Well, I'm off and running.  I'm looking into volunteering to stay productive, so I will be checking at our children's hospital today to submit an application and see if there is anything I can do to be useful. 

Thanks for the info on the embroidery machines, ladies.  I definitely want to get one and dabble with it.......think I will go to JoAnns or someplace and have them show me how the gizzmo works.....then head to a cheaper place if I can get one.

Funny thing is........I love crafts............and have NO talent!  I'm always looking for something to do....one of these people that have 3 left hands made up of all thumbs!  And I can't follow instructions worth diddly, either!  Still ready to take me on??

Bren........great on the windchimes.........I haven't found the post with the instructions yet.  Can you give me a hint?  Thinking maybe that would be something that DH could dabble with while he battles the beast......maybe it wouldn't take to much sitting time and could keep his mind off of the unthinkable.

Those are really cute, JO.  And such nice useful gifts.  I'm always looking for something to stick in my book to mark my place.  Usually ends up being a piece of an envelope from a bill or something I got in the mail. 

Hey fellow crafters. I'm just popping in before I settle in with a movie tonight.  I didn't get anything at the garage sales.  I was mainly looking for a used bicycle and didn't find any.  I did come home and sew a bit thought.  I thought I would do some embroidery on my machine and post some pics for those of you who are curious as to how it all works together. 

I have a Brother sewing/embroidery machine.  It does regular sewing as well as embroidery.  To do the embroidery you attach an embroidery frame onto the machine.  This comes with the machine and I didn't have to buy it separate.  Here is what it looks like:

The machine also came with a 4" embroidery hoop that fits onto the embroidery frame, again, it came with the machine.  You use this hoop to hold the material to be embroideried with some stabilizer fabric on the back.  The stabilizer is very CHEAP.  I get mine at walmart and use the 'tear away' type that you simply tear off once you are done with the design.

The thread to use is special embroidery thread.  Its a little pricey but I find it last quite a long time.  Its best to go for quality and pay the price.  You will get better results in the long run.  The bobbin uses what they call 'embroidery bobbin thread' and it is just 'white' in color so you don't have to worry about having a bobbin of each color you use to embroidery.

I sooooo want one of those machines!!  For the few of you that know me.................I can do this, right?  I don't have to download stuff from the computer to the machine?  It's all right in there, right??

Going to go visit Mr. Google and look at machines!
