We paid about $80 for ours at walmart new.  I just had the most wonderful day, learning to knit houseshoes this morning then 2 other ladies brought lunch and joined us and we talked about our families, books, we have been reading, what the Lord has done in our lives, and who we want to pray for.  We discussed what all and who all would cook tomorrow night for the 5 to 7, we want it to be special since it is Easter week so one lady is fixing like a meatloaf with mashed potatoes on top, one lady is fixing corn salad, and cole slaw and sloppy joes in case we run out of cassarole.  I get to make 48 cup cakes and decorate them with little easter eggs.  then to the grocery store and bought groceries, a lady also gave me some different kind of beads to get me started on making jewelry.  Tonight is Emily's T-ball game.  So it has been a great busy wonderful fun filled day.

Last night was a wonderful date with hubby.  Some of the people that got up and sang at PV idol, I knew and had no idea they could sing and was just amazed at the talent some people have.

I have told all my friends if you go to garage sales and there is jewelry there call me and I will be on the way there.

I hope everyone else has had such a blessed day.  Hugs to all.

that is so true, and also pawn shops have bicycles also.

I'll have to start cutting out the picture thing, the first I want to do is the wooden beads mixed with metal ones

Then I want to do some with tourqois, the blues and the peaches.  Oh, I can already tell it will be addictive but then so is knitting to me.  I love it all!!!!!!!!

Sahalie gave me the idea for that wreath.  She has so many creative ideas.

got to go, just got home from the t-ball game and am very hungry.  later.

Good morning Crafterswomen!  I hope everyone is having a good week so far.  I would never pay $100 for a used bike.  That was just the limit I set overall in my quest for a bike.  If I can't find one for $100 or even less then I won't get one.  I'm a very strict budget type person.  I set limits and won't go over.  Spar, that is a good idea about checking pawn shops!  I got a lightweight Singer sewing machine at a pawn shop once to take to quilting classes and it has been great.  The only thing it lacked was a 1/4 inch foot attachment.  Well, I'm off and running.  I'm looking into volunteering to stay productive, so I will be checking at our children's hospital today to submit an application and see if there is anything I can do to be useful.

Just wanted to check in and say goodmorning before getting busy making cupcakes.

Jazzy girl, I am very hopeful for you today.  Enjoy your freedom and sunshine while you can.  If the hospital knows you can knit they will probably put you to work making baby hats for new borns. LOL.

JO, Anna, Celia, Jazz you guys have a blessed day.  Lots of hugs.

Well, back from the 5 to 7, the people got a real treat tonight instead of soup and sandwiches, they got shepard pie, cupcakes, cole slaw, corn salad and the fixings to fix a banana pudding.  It was really nice and they are so appreciatative.  Hope to see some craft T people tomorrow. Hugs.

Thanks for the info on the embroidery machines, ladies.  I definitely want to get one and dabble with it.......think I will go to JoAnns or someplace and have them show me how the gizzmo works.....then head to a cheaper place if I can get one.

Funny thing is........I love crafts............and have NO talent!  I'm always looking for something to do....one of these people that have 3 left hands made up of all thumbs!  And I can't follow instructions worth diddly, either!  Still ready to take me on??

Forgot who posted the picture of the Quilted Angels..............I'm going to go back and look, unless you want to step front and center and identify yourself!!

Bren........great on the windchimes.........I haven't found the post with the instructions yet.  Can you give me a hint?  Thinking maybe that would be something that DH could dabble with while he battles the beast......maybe it wouldn't take to much sitting time and could keep his mind off of the unthinkable.

    Hi Neesie!

Spar posted a pic a few pages back of the windchime she made.  That was my inspiration.  I'm having such a great time making the windchimes.  I've got three different ones in different stages of completion.  Tim drilled holes for me in copper tubing that I use for the chimes.  He also drilled holes for me in some gorgeous pieces of cedar I found in our fields.  We've got two cedar trees.  Also have some nice pieces of apple, pear and oak wood to use for the top part of the chime.

The weather has been gorgeous so I've been outside.  I got 70 gladiola bulbs for $9 today!! Yippee .. got 50 of them in the ground this afternoon.  We're going to till the 55 x 35 ft area of our vegetable garden tomorrow.  I can't wait.

I've kind've put aside the crocheting and concentrating on the chimes.  I'll post pics as soon as I finish one.

Dang .. those cupcakes look good!!

Jo - your picture is beautiful .. love the colors.

    Happy Crafting,

    Bren

Those are really cute, JO.  And such nice useful gifts.  I'm always looking for something to stick in my book to mark my place.  Usually ends up being a piece of an envelope from a bill or something I got in the mail.  :)

Love those book marks.  I did make some for easter to put in the sacks of food handed out, they were bright colors and I stamped on each of them, If God is for us who can be against us, and added colorful ribbon through a hole punch in one end.  Your are way more beautiful.

Hope all has a great day.  Not sure what I am up to today, didn't get much sleep last night so may nap.  Have to get grandson at 3pm today 2 towns away, then he will take over the computer but when he takes a break I grab it.  (yes, I do spoil the grandkids, cause they sure don't get it at home)  I was shocked when I picked them up at the firestation last night and took them home to feed them, get their baths, and get them to bed that the first thing they did was go to their rooms and get the laundry their mom had done and start hanging it up and putting it away in drawers.  Then they ate, bathed, and had to go to bed at 8:30 after reading 2 books.  But I think they were worried about their mom and dad out where the fires were cause every hour the little one would get up and ask if mom and dad was home yet.  I asked Emily are you ready to say your prayers, she said yes but I want my brother in here with me so he came and we all prayed together.  It really touched my heart.  They can be so sweet.

Well, I got my sewing machine out of the closet, it is a Kenmore and it does have several patterns of zig zag to choose from.  Now am going to search for the book or look it up on the internet.  Have a good evening.

Spar, that should be a great machine!  Kenmore's are very good.  I still have the Kenmore I got for my 18th birthday.  All the girls in my family got sewing machines on their 18th birthdays.  It still sews like a champ.  I just wish it was self threading like my new one.  You should definitely be able to find a book for it online.

Try this link.  On the far right in the blue area, put in the brand (Kenmore) and the model number for your sewing machine and click 'find'

    Find Owner's Manual

good ideas ladies and I intend to find the manuel, got to get the magnifying glass out so I see the model number.  I do intend to do quite a bit of sewing now that I am retired and have more free time.  I have 3 knitting projects going at the same time.  One is hard and when I get frustrated I go back to the scarf until I get over it and then go back to the hard one.

Everyone have a great day.  JO when I get my first piece of jewelry done I will post it and dedicate it to you.  LOL (unless it is really ugly)

Hey all, I have been so happy, I found my Kenmore book while going through the storage building looking for material.  I also burned my thumb pretty bad making Emily's red flip flops, has a huge blister and hurts like crazy.  Will have to wait until Monday to do anything with it, have been busy repairing some of granddaughters clothes by hand, her new easter dress strap broke, then she tore a hole in a new dress she had on so ironed on a patch inside.

Jazzy girl, please post if you found any garage sales buys.  Hope you had a good day.

Hey fellow crafters. I'm just popping in before I settle in with a movie tonight.  I didn't get anything at the garage sales.  I was mainly looking for a used bicycle and didn't find any.  I did come home and sew a bit thought.  I thought I would do some embroidery on my machine and post some pics for those of you who are curious as to how it all works together.

I have a Brother sewing/embroidery machine.  It does regular sewing as well as embroidery.  To do the embroidery you attach an embroidery frame onto the machine.  This comes with the machine and I didn't have to buy it separate.  Here is what it looks like:

The machine also came with a 4" embroidery hoop that fits onto the embroidery frame, again, it came with the machine.  You use this hoop to hold the material to be embroideried with some stabilizer fabric on the back.  The stabilizer is very CHEAP.  I get mine at walmart and use the 'tear away' type that you simply tear off once you are done with the design.

The thread to use is special embroidery thread.  Its a little pricey but I find it last quite a long time.  Its best to go for quality and pay the price.  You will get better results in the long run.  The bobbin uses what they call 'embroidery bobbin thread' and it is just 'white' in color so you don't have to worry about having a bobbin of each color you use to embroidery.

Here is the finished embroidery with the stabilizer that has been torn away

And here is the finished square that I will trim up to go into a block for a quilt I am working on:

It is all computerized now.  You just set up the embroidery frame and the material in the hoop that you are going to embroidery on, select the embroidery pattern from the machine menu, put in the first color it tells you to and then press the 'start' button.  Then you can multitask until it stops and prompts you for the next color.  You can find all kinds of embroidery patterns online now.  Some are copyrighted and some the people allow you to use as you see fit.  If you are creative you can get the software to create your own patterns.  I haven't had time to do that yet but would like to pursue it some day.

    Happy Easter to everyone.

The embroidery machine is awesome.  I wish my sewing machine had that capability.  And the patterns are programmed in the machine!  Geez .. I had no idea.

Today's Easter project.  I used a powder-pigment paint to wash over this old chair and planted pansy's and petunias.
