I have a question.....I have a red area on my right breast.  I have no swelling, tenderness, warmth, orange peel skin, etc just this red area, which upon close inspection looks like a bunch of tiny red blood vessels. I have an appointment next week with my primary care doctor but here are my questions:

When I first wake up in the morning this area is almost gone, you can just barely see it, it is very light pink and it gets progressively redder through out the day. Every time I take my bra off, it gets alot lighter and almost disapears.  It seems like touching it also makes it redder for a while and then it gets lighter again. Is that common with IBC?

It also doesn't seem to be getting any worse, if it is IBC, how long does it take to see a change or worsening in symptoms?

    tngirl1:

With IBC we all do not have the same symptoms so it is really hard to say.  With me it looked like dermatitis with a small mass. I did not have any swelling of the breast, red spots,or any other symptoms that are listed for IBC.  My mammogram came back negative so the surgeon did a biopsy to see what it was.  At the time he did not think it was cancer because I only had it for two months.  Before I received my results the pathologist just to make sure he was right did the test 2 times he also sent it out to Mayo Clinic for a second opinion because of my age.  Prior to my follow-up with my surgeon he looked up IBC for he had never heard of it.  I was very luckly with the oncologist that he sent me to for he had another patient he was treating had IBC.

I would ask to have either a mammogram or MRI.  The MRI is better at showing anything abnormal.  Depending on your insurance you may have a hard time getting an MRI.   If he/she puts you on antibotics please note that it will look like it is clearing up and then it comes back shortly after you finish the antibotics.

I hope this helped some.  I will pray that this is not IBC keep us posted.

    Hugs

    Laura
