Has anyone gotten blood clots in their arm?
Thought I was through the worst of this madness. Finished chemo March 9th, now show up with blood clots in the arm.Taking daily shots in the stomach and started on blood thinner. Anyone else out there that this has happened to?

Yes. The FEC did a job on my veins. I had the shots for 2 weeks but not in the stomach. I was on warfarin for 6 months after that. You will have to have an INR blood test done quite often to check your dosage. I was surprised at the pain from the clot, but it did clear up very quickly with the meds. Hope yours does too.

Yes, I had them but not for bs surgery. They were from defibrillator surgery (I have an implanted cardiac defibrillator). They hurt really bad but mine were not considered really dangerous because they were not in the deep veins (the ones that could go to lung or heart). They still are a concern though. I was put on aspirin therapy and they eventually disappeared. Also, I put warm compresses on them and it seemed to help. Did they suggest that for you?

I do use warm compresses but it doesn't give me much relieve. They didn't find them on the first ultrasound so 10 days later after I could feel big knots they rechecked and finally started me on some treatment. I just feel like this is what the rest of my life is going to be like. My surgery was in early Oct and my port was placed in Nov so I'm not sure what caused these to develop. It's just a little scary and I will be glad when they are gone. I think I'll have to stay on Coumadin for about six months.

I really do think they will eventually go. The coumadin will take care of them eventually. They do hurt though. I've had two surgeries and I got them with both of them. The first time really bad and the second not so much. They didn't last as long as yours have (only a month). I've been thinking about them lately because if I have to do chemo I know that this can happen. I'm sure they have limited your activity with that arm. It's so unfortunate that there are so many complications that can result from having bc. Isn't bc enough???? Hang in there!

I had two blood clots as a result of a poorly place port. One was in my supclavical area and the other was in my juggular vein. It was extremely painful and I had to have lovinox shots in my stomach each night until my coumadin levels were high enough. The worst part was the finger sticks for teh INR levels. I had an ultrasound about six months later and they found that although the clots were not completely resolved they were small enough to allow good blood flow so I came off the blood thinners. I still have visable veins in my chest area and upper arm and a bit of swelling in the arm which was thankfully my non-cancer side. It does get better!
