    MOB,

I get the Neulasta shot the day after the chemo.

Then I have chemo followups with a doctor each succeeding week( for two weeks) and blood taken each time.

The day of my chemo I get blood taken and do not see a doctor. The nurse practitioner gives me the IV.

I sort of feel that if your blood is good a week after the chemo they don't expect much of a change.

It appears all places have a little different style. I am sure your place knows what they are doing..

MOB you go this week again..I have a week more ..

    Don't worry..

    Hugs,

    Francine

MOB I wanted to send you a hunk at the end of Tax season but I don't know where you folks go to get those photos you post. I am serious ...

Mom of Boys:  When I go for chemo I get finger prick 1st, then NP checks the results then comes in and meets for ?'s etc. I did not see onc first Treatment, saw her 2nd treatment after NP, they also decided I won't see onc next time but will for the last (I can always ask to see her if I feel I need to though).  I do IV each treatment and the chemo nurse takes a tube at some point before or after chemo, they had trouble 2nd treatment getting blood from my hand, so she stuck me with a small needle highter on my arm to get that tube of blood.  I don't see anyone in between treatments, I am told call about anything irregular, check temp 2x/day if over 100.4 I am to call immediately.  I have stayed in the 97.7 - 98.4 range all the way through.

Diane:  My NP said you may not loose leg hair (sorry).  Mine is still there but not growing, same with the pits, and no brazilian for me yet.

Thanks for the information, ladies.  For some reason... maybe because I've worked too much the last few weeks... I fear some blood count may be off.  I haven't had it tested since the day before my last chemo.  That'll be three weeks on Tuesday.

Francine... Keep looking!  I want a pic on 4/16!

As far as the hair, I only recently noticed that my leg and underarm hair are not growing since the last time I shaved.  As far as the Brazilian, the Pube Fairy left me halfway thru the process.  My arm  hair is very light, but it appears as though most of it is still there.

Another question for y'all... What did your onc say about drinking alcoholic beverages during chemo?  Mine said they preferred absolutely none BUT an occasional glass of wine would be okay.

Hi yall - well I think the benadryl worked. Took some at 1:30...and 2 hours later the itching has subsided. I called the after hours number but they gave the on-call doc the wrong number. I had to leave to take little guy for a haircut appointment and missed the call (no idea why I gave them my home number and not my cell...clearly I am not thinking straight). DH and DD met us there and now we are all home. Don't think I will l bother to call the on-call onco back because I am feeling better.

Hair: stubble in weird parts keeps insisting on growing on my head. Not cooperative at all. Arms look the same as they always have. Under arms dont need shaving AT ALL. Same goes for my legs. And the Brazilian never happened for me. Oh well.

I never asked about wine/alcoholic beverages. Should I? I just figured that if my taste buds and stomach was in the mood...it would be OK.

MOB- I was told to limit alcoholic beverages to no more than 2 a day and none on day of TX.  Do those 20 oz vodka and cranberry juice count as 1 or 2 ?  No, seriously, I think I've had one drink since I started.  But , leave my 20 oz am coffee alone!

Diane-  My brazilian bikini wax has been sporadic, but the leg hair is just about gone yipeeee.

Crusader -  Love the cat pics.

we just got back from our twice daily walks with our 120 lb bloodhound ( ok , he walks me).  I try to do a couple miles each walk.

Gina - I had the rash on the back of my hands first round.  Benadryl took care of it in about 4 days.  No issues this round

My onc said it's normal for the wbc count to dip in between and she doesn't test unless there's a need to. Go figure. She of the Dana Farber school says it's okay. I have had no tests and no neulasta shots.... but I do have a tattoo. Ten years ago. Got inspired in TN visiting a friend. Felt it almost a requirement! I think I was bored. But I love it. A moon face on my ankle.

Mom of Boys - My onc said an occasional drink is ok.  I really don't drink much anyway just if I go out the dinner, maybe one, usually the big cosmo/margarita style that probably count as 2 or 3. Studies are saying the Alc does contribute to BC, I heard this but didn't really read up so I wouldn't want to quote that.

I haven't had any drinks since the weekend before the 1st chemo.  The first week I wouldn't waste the calories since nothing seems to taste right anyway.  Same with Chocolate and candy and junk food - they are my main vices!!  Edy's grape flavored fruit popsicle have become my new friend, I limit to 1/night because I can tend to binge, I might sneak a 2nd if I'm not satified with one.

    Deb,
I needed a chuckle,....thanks, I think that the 20oz vodka cran counts as one.....I was never a big drinker but after all this I may be.....

As for tattoos......oh was I always against getting one but you know what?  I got BC so What the FSmileSmileK????  maybe I will go out and get one after this is all over.

Follow up on my thrush issue......I now have another med to take for the next 13 days to combat the nastiness that is my mouth.  WHY me?

I am hoping the FOG has lifted and I can get some things done tomorrow.  I think that I am a little more tired this go round but I have amnesia from round 1 already so it could all be the same as last time.  No pain, No gain.......yeah right Yell  Ohhh let me look for the picture of that guy.....I will post it tonight.

Francine google hot guys pictures for your present to MOB...there are loads to choose from :)

    hugs,

    Diane

My onc only checks my wbc on the day of my chemo. If it's ok then I get the treatment but not ok, I have to wait a couple of days of the next week. I hope that doesn't happen. The sooner the chemo is done the happier I'll be. I don't like feeling run down.

NYDeb... LOL!  Yep, they also told me to cut out caffeine.  I obliged exactly one day on that order.  Gotta have my diet DP in the morning.

Carol... Time to share... what and where on the tattoo?

Patti... Never been a big drinker myself.  Like you, I want a margarita when we go out to eat Mexican food.  I've got to have some fun!

Diane...  I'm anxious to see what Francine comes up with for me. hehehehe

laurie41... I'm hoping it doesn't happen to me either.  Funny thing... even the word blood used to make me a sick, NOW I'm wondering if/when they take it.  BC does change things!

Further update on tattoo...  I'm feeling somewhat better on my son's tattoo.  NOW, he wants to go with ME to get MY tattoo!  PLUS, I think I've started something here amongst the Princesses.  I can just see us all getting a F*CK CANCER where the * is a pink ribbon.

Vangoghpro, didle20diane and Mom of Boys, this week has been different with the having to monitor the blood sugar (glucose)  4 times a days but i have not had to give myself a shot yet. It has been under 150 which is what they want every time since Wednesday.  Tuesdays when I am pumped full of steroids I may have to give myself one.  I just have to watch no eating between meals or that makes blood sugar spike.  In the past I have had one blood work come back as borderline diabetes at my annual physical, but it was done right after lunch not a fasting one, so did not put much weight on those results.  Everyone says this will be temporary and maybe I"lll lose some weight at the same time.  That sure would be a plus.  Just remember you can get thru it!!!

My supervisor at work is a big tattoo guy ( ex- military) .  He kept telling me he wanted to take me out to get my first "tat" before I started chemo.  I told him my first   "tat' would probably be a nipple after reconstruction!!

Just wanted you all to know that I survived a birthday party for my son (8) today.  I had 16 boys here today playing basketball, football, and Rock Band!  We grilled hot dogs and made smores!  It is now 11:30 and I am heading to bed.  I am going to Atlantic City at 6am with my son, DS, and 2 nephews for a few days.  Coming back in time for third TX.

I have felt great since Thurs.  Onc. nurse told me that I may take a week to bounce back.  Yucky on day 3-4.  Tired and no appetite for days 5-8.  Great day 9...go figure!

I got an insurance bill yesterday.  My neulasta shot is listed at $17,500!!!  From what I am reading that is double what it should be....calling billing office on Monday to check.  Thank God for insurance!

I get bl checked day of treatment.  Then I see Doc and he has results.  I then go straight to oncology suite for treatment.  I get neulasta shot next day.  Then I don't see anyone or have any bl done until next TX.

Tired, tired, tired!!  Good night...have a great SE free weekend!

    Chris

Guess what?  Steroids allowed a whole 3 hours sleep tonight!  arggghh

Gina, I had similar rashes after tx1 (taxotere) and tx2 (abraxane).  My onc suggested oral antihistamine  and hydrocortizone (sp?) cream...cleared up in a day or two.  Also, I stopped taking long hot baths - which is a bummer because there goes another comforting ritual.

All - I have to brag on my friend who took me to my tx on Friday.  I had told her to be prepared to distract me during the "great iv search for a good vein" - I expected her to have a good story ready, or maybe to talk about planning a beach holiday.  Instead, she was armed with "flash cards" of my favorite male actors.  So while I squeezed the hell out of one of her hands, she smiled and held up Jonnny Depp.  Next came Matthew McConaughey, Brad Pitt, Benicio del Toro, and on it went.  How awesome is that?  I say, three cheers for Sherry - for she's a jolly good friend,. hip hip hooray, etc.

I can't keep up,sorry for all of the SE  girls!! They suck in plain English, this whole thing sucks, I wish no one had to go through this, Thank God We have one another, I know I don't feel alone!Luv to Sing and gina gina, you look fabulous!  I have to tell you, I was in a fashion show yesterday, with my wig and fake boobs, and I felt wonderful, everyone including my 14 yo daughter, said I looked great!  What a confidence booster!  I was so self conscience, after my second mastectomy, no reconstruction, maybe after this is all over, my prosthesis came in on Friday, and it made all of the difference. I even wore a low cut dress, and felt fine, day 5 after Tx #2 and feeling good, I am blessed!  Have a great Sunday. DAWN

just a quick note before i head of to work. the little beagle had her puppies last night, i wasn't there, darn it. My brother said she had them without any problem, six little puppies yeah!

on another note, decadron will send your blood sugar through the roof and will also elevate your wbc's to an extent. have a great day everyone.

I knew Decadron was the drug of destruction!  Darn stuff.  My oncologist is a fine doctor, but I got the distinct cologne from his suit that his priority is, "Kill the cancer, everything else is secondary."  I told him otherwise, but he has his own priorities about me.  Yes, I took a few things into my own hands, but, once you break 100% trust, the game is played differently.

I do not like Neulasta's bone pain.  It is just ratty.  I already have glaucoma - don't make it or any other condition worse.  Do you know what irony is?  A doctor who has undergone chemotherapy.  Have I met one?  Yes, I have.  Where is a Cannes Film Festival movie on chemo?  What is holding it up?

marshall2000 - Hooray!  Welcome, puppies!  Welcome to planet earth from Heaven.  Good job, mama beagle.  You got Snoopy here safely.

    Love in Christ,

Morning All...just catching up on all posts...been laid low for a couple of days after first Tx, I did manage a few hours at work though on days 3 and 4, but day 4 was when the truck really hit me! really ached in my shoulders and Hips, felt like someone had hit me between my shoulder blades with a spade.

2lkh538 Hotflashes...yes big time, but really sweaty too, I have already experienced menopause as well. I know It's hot where I am (Miami) but phew the sweating is bad, just suddenly comes on.

GinaGina I had some itching on my hands day three in the morning but no rash and even now I get a little itching on my hands and wrists but it doesn't last. My face and chest was red the day before Chemo day of and day after I Looked like I had been in the sun, I figured it was the Steroids, Glad to hear you have it under control now.

Tattoos...when my son visited, just last week, he showed me his latest tattoo, one he had not told me about, seems he has a whole mural thing in progress on his upper right arm. I know he had an Angel there, now he has two cherubs and was going back on his return home (UK) to have the background finished. Didn't like the thought of him getting Tattoos at first, he has a few now, but he's old enough and daft enough as my grandma would say, and they are in good taste I have to say. He did suggest we get one after together after all this is done ....I love you son but ...Not with you on this one.....Yet!  My daughter visited Miami ink last year when she was here, apparently it's a popular show over in the UK as well.

I go the Onc on Tuesday one week after tx bloodwork and chk up. I get finger prick and chk up by Doc day before tx then Neulasta shot day after, then I am to have blood check each week.

Well I'm going to try get a few errands done this morn while I'm feeling ok, afternoons seem to go downhill a bit. am sleeping somewhat better though, save for the trips to the bathroom..all that water...Oh and on the alc drink front I was advised not to...but I won't give up me morning cup of coffee!

You girls keep me afloat thank you....I'm doing the DOABLE...keep it going

Sending out healing thoughts as always

    Julie

NanaA... I don't know what to think about this diabetes situation.  My onc said it was something that my regular GP would worry about at some point.  Mine is certainly not as big of a deal as yours is... I can't imagine monitoring your counts 4 times a day!

Luv2sing... You are absolutely beautiful.  Your hair is naturally pretty, but I gotta tell you I really like the wrap with the big hoop earrings.  The pictures of your children and grandchildren are so darling... I agree.  Keep those pics coming!

Diane... That is a great picture of you.  I am definitely NOT showing my completely bald head... you ladies are carrying off this look much better than I am.

Chris... You women with the big birthday parties amaze me.  16 boys?  I remember those days, but not sure I could carry it off now.  Thanks for info on the blood counts.  Making me feel better about my own regime.

Tracy... That HAS to be one of the kindest friend stories I have ever heard!  AND... I just can't give up my long, hot baths... yet.  That was another "don't" on my original onc list.

PattiB... Ya know... I just might look into that.  Seriously.  Wonder if they would fly some of us in?

Linda... Yes to both but primarily the hot flashes at night.  I was premenopausal before all of "this" started.  I had my ovaries/tubes removed 10 days before my lumpectomy/SNB/port placement.  So, I hit menopause like a wall!  The hot flashes are better now almost 2 months later.  Unfortunately, I have no suggestions... another thing I'll worry about after the chemo.

Dawn... Was it a cancer benefit fashion show OR just a fashion show?  Either way, good for you!

Francine... Thanks for the game!  That'll be a wonderful distraction for me at work... well, at home... well, anywhere!
