Question about the fitting for foobs

Options

Hi all,

I had a double mx in January (chemo neo-adj) and next week will be finishing rads.  At this point, I am not considering reconstruction.  I have a prescription from my doc for prostheses, but am wondering how long after radiation finishes should I wait for my fitting?

Thanks!

I'm really not sure about that one. Hopefully, someone who's been through it will come along to answer. Three years before I had a bilateral mastectomy, I'd had a lumpectomy and radiation and even then, I found my bra uncomfortable for a number of weeks afterward.

You could certainly ask your radiation oncologist about that. After radiation finishes, the process continues in your body for about a week or so and then any burning or irritation begins to heal. I would think it will be at least several weeks after that until you'll be ready to try on breast forms (prostheses). The main thing is not to try on or start wearing breast forms when your skin is still sensitive and tender. If you wait until you're really healed, you'll be more likely to find forms that fit well and are comfortable to wear.

Thanks Erica.  I can't imagine anything that close to my radiated skin right now!!
