Travelgal- I am doing the taxol on a weekly basis for 12 weeks. I have done the first 2 with very few SE;s. If you were using zofran you should have no problem, the gave me reglan to take every day for 4 days and zofran if I needed it which I never did.(so far). Day 4-5 seems to be the worst on this for me. Some abdominal pain over night and pain where I have had the surgeries (port and lumpectomy) By the way 42DD before. Still can wear same bras just not quite as full now. Last week crashed then Sat night and slept until noon Sunday. That seems to have been the worst. The steroid have put me into diabetes, but the only days I have had to do shots is the day of treatment because of the 5 dex the night before and 5 more before 6 the morning of and then again in the IV. You will also get tagament and benedryl before your taxol. They go really slow the first time. The second time starts slow, but can up it faster. Was out sooner 2nd time. My hair started to itch just days after the 1st round but has not come out yet. Inside of my ears itch, drives me crazy. Hope you get thru with little to 0 SE's. Annette

Beth... My first tx starts this WED.. and as of Monday at 11AM, my hair stylist is coming over to buzz my hair as it is just something I know wil be too emotional and too messy to deal with as hair comes out during the treamtnets. NOT that this will easy and defintiley greiving over it already.. but it is giving me some power to this and mad as i am that it has to be, I would rather be ready than seeing it go.
Good thoughts to all today from anyone needing it today!!!
Hugs,
Donna

whew ya'll are an active bunch. i can never remember what is written and by who. i hope everyone has agreat weekend. thanks for all the input on the lump vs mast. i think i just want to get rid of both and get some new ones.
pickle go for the short do my hair started comeing out pretty good day 14 which was a thursday, i cut it really short on friday, it lasted the weekend, and monday in shower it was falling out like crazy, no way could i go to work like that, shaved it, put on wig, looked great, felt fake, took it off, on with the bandana, and off to work i went, everyone was supportive and told me how beautiful i was, what i thought was going to be a horrible day was a wonderful one instead. Yeah for great friends and co-workers.
gina: i love your new pic way hotter than your brother LOL
Sessna: i am with you on the animal issue. I absolutely hate it when animals are mistreated. I think animals in need find me. a little beagle dog showed up at my house, very timid, very scared, obviously mistreated in past, and pregnant, (my brother thought she had worms he is so funny), well now she is about ready to pop, i bathed her and let her in the house at night, but she prefers to be outside during the day, she has made a birthing area under the ramp to my toolshed. she is very sweet, but makes no noise at all other than a little yelp or whimper when she is scared, i don't know if someone hurt her vocal cords or what, just very odd for a beagle not to bark and howl often. I took a picture of her, don't know what she is pregnant by, but i live in middle tennessee and already have lots of people that will take the pups when born, big on hunting and fishing around here. and No, Christians are NOT weak. Good for you.
Francine: you look purty purty to me.
ok train of thought is gone now, i usually try to write down notes as i read so i can respond, but spent the night at my sweetie' and his kids never put the pen and paper back in same place(teenagers for you) oh yeah when i got here last night they were all sitting on their butts, the floor desperately needed to be vacumned, i started vacumning, they hadn't seen my head yet, i whipped off my bandana, man you should have the cleaning frenzy, i guess the bald head guilted them. ha ha another positiveside effect.
Everyone have a great weekend, i am off to work soon.

Hi Ladies,
I have been to visit the Taxotere Carboplatin Herceptin post because of the terrible time i have been having. I wanted to see if people thought the Herceptin was causing the problems or the TC. Still don't know the answer. I have pretty much had daily very unpleasant heartburn in the afternoon and evening and diarrhea all morning long (sometimes into the afternoon). This is all playing havoc with my ability to be at work.
I have had to excuse myself from class twice to go to the bathroom (I teach high school). I never know when a sick stomach will strike. It can come on if I even drink a few sips of water. I am getting to the point where i am afraid to eat for fear of the consequences. Needless to say, I am losing weight. I have taken a litte OTC diarrhea med, but so far no effect. I tried taking meds for the heartburn and that was a disaster - a night of awful insomnia. I can definitely say, as another lady said, that I have never been this ill in my life.
I did not even go to see my horses yesterday (now I know I am ill).
My nurse keeps telling me to hold off on the head shaving idea as I might be surprised how little hair i will actually lose. My husband had said he would cut my hair for me next week as I reach day 14, but I might wait and see.
NanaA,
Did you know you were at risk for Diabetes before? That is a strong SE.
Love Linda
-
Linda, I take tagamet 2 x day throughout my whole treatment.....I could probably get by with just the first 2 weeks (I am on TC every 3 weeks) but it has been worth it to just take it the whole time......the slightest heartburn or icky feeling in my stomach would trigger 50 other things so it is best to just nip it in the bud....
gina.......love your picture....looks like you don't even belong in our group. that wig looks awesome, like the real thing.
everyone else.......please have a SE free weekend on me.....i am day 4 of my 2nd TC and woke up nauseous (I haven't had a problem sleeping) so I missed my anti nausea meds....AND a tongue with white spots all over it. What the?????
hugs,
diane

I have been washing my scalp- using Tsal shampoo for scalp buildup seems to help. I hadn't thought about the wet razor infection potential- I've never been much of a germaphobe so a lot of these things just don't occur to me. I think part of my problem is that I have a touch of OCD- like if I have a peeling sunburn- forget it- I'm picking at it. Any little bump on my scalp- same thing. I'm going to keep using the shampoo and try to leave it alone.
-
the white tongue spots could be thrush , you should probably tell your onc about that one and use the mouth rinse a lot.
-
Marshall- I am also in the neoadjuvant club. Although I went that route to avoid a mast, I am still very much on the fence. I still have 4 more TC treatments, so plenty of time to weigh my options.
Cpanasci- sorry to hear about your reaction. I , like you was glad that I had read about it here, so it was not a surprise. My onco sarcastically said that maybe I talked myself into it. I told him that if I had that much control over my body, I wouldn't be here. The nurses all laughed.
gina - You look so natural in your wig. I haven't worn mine much, felt very awkward. But the longer I am bald the better it looks.
-
Hey MoB;
They fixed me up pretty quickly and I finished the TX -- 50% there! Said that I should change the steroid dose before the next round and they will give me some pre-emptive drips then. They were unflapped. I actually don't even want to say this aloud, but I feel fine! Yesterday I went out for dinner and today took a yoga class. Go figure?!
-
luv2sing... Congratulations on your determination and drive to get your MBA regardless of what else is going on right now!
Sessna1... YES, that was the episode that made me cry.
Alyad... So sorry about the low grade fever. This last time, I didn't figure I wasn't done until after Day 6 or 7. What shampoo are you referring to??? A friend in town mentioned she used something called "T" but she couldn't remember the name.
moborn63... My eyelashes are really thinning, but my eyebrows are holding tight... so far. AND... yes, we haven't talked it about that, BUT I've put on a few pounds as well. Not sure if it is the chemo OR me comforting myself with food OR the fact I've quit exercising OR a combination of the above.
marshall2000... Just hurts to hear about your sweet little beagle. BUT, so glad she has a home now. AND... I may have to show my bald head to get some work done around my house as well.
NanaA... My blood tests showed I might have the beginnings of diabetes as well. Just great.
Linda... WOW. Teaching high school students must be very hard during treatments.
cpanasci... Glad to hear you're feeling better. I guess it's "good" they were unflapped...
NOW FOR MY BAD NEWS... (NYDEB... pay attention)...
My baby came home for the weekend from college. Brought a friend with him. I get up this morning and see the friend has a rather large TATTOO on the inside of his arm. I say, "Chris... WOW... you have a tattoo?" He looks at me and then my "baby boy". My baby then proceeds to say, "Well...... I might as well go ahead and tell you, Mom." Yep... on the inside of his arm is a huge script tattoo. I mildly freak out and say, "OMG... please tell me it's fake... please tell me y'all are playing a late April 1 joke on me." BUT... no... it's real and it's permanent. I've known since the morning of his 18th birthday when the very first thing he said to me was, "Mom. I'm 18. I can now legally get a tattoo." Guess he waited for 2 1/2 years...
-
NYDeb- I like your answer to the onc! sometimes people can just say such things- so good to just throw something back at them! I feel like I always think of the perfect come back too late. After reading of reactions on the second round here I was nervous too- since I had reacted the first time I was worried about a stronger second reaction, but I was fine- first time they had to give benedry AND more steroids, but second time they gave me the benedryl after the Adriamycin and before the Cytoxan and Taxotere and I was just fine. I was asleep from the benedryl, but I was fine. I hope rounds 3-6 go as well. 2 down, 4 to go!
I'm still fighting a slight fever- 99 degrees and some body ache. my friends stopped by our place on their way to go hiking, wish I had felt up to going with them. I sat outside on a beautiful day for awhile- supervised dh doing some yard work.
-
my mom freaked out when I got a tattoo about 10 years ago. ( a band on my ankle), she still acts like it was something I did to personally hurt her. anyone else got any tattoos?
I've just got the one but I've always wanted to get another one.
-
I just had my hair cut. About 12 inches. Its a short bob. But it still is coming out. I predict a buzz with the clippers within the next day. I had no idea it would come out so fast.
-
MOB - My baby called me one day, at age 18 , that he had just gotten his ear pierced by a friend. I told him he'd best not come home. My DH has VERY few things that he can't tolerate, that's one of them. He was bluffing.
But, my 24 going on 40 yr old got a tattoo this summer and ,as yet, has not shared that info with us. When we need to know, he'll tell us. It's small, between his shoulder blades.
Good to have your "baby " home eh?
-
I got a small tattoo of a hummingbird on my ankle when I was 30. Even at 30, I hid it from my parents for a long time. One day my mom saw it and - like you said - acted like it was something I had done TO HER. She said, "but what will people think when you're old and in a nursing home with that on your ankle?" My dad first said "oh please tell me that's one of those that comes off in the shower" and when I said no...he got all curious about it and how much it hurt and what does the needle look like, etc. Who knows, when this bc bs is finished, it might just be time for another one!
-
Chick717 - trust me , I work with nursing home patients and MANY of them have tattoos
-
Since he turned 18, I knew he would get one. I had always told him his back... between his shoulder blades... those would be places I could accept! BUT, the inside of his arm??? AND, it's big! Even with a short sleeved shirt, you can tell it's there.

Anyone else got a SE that makes them feel like they have poison ivy? With TX#1, I woke up with swollen red itchy hands (just the backs, not the palms). My onco said it was toxicity related to the Taxotere. It took a couple of days and ended up drying up my skin and then peeling. This time Tx #2 (but not Taxotere) late last night (when I couldn't sleep) the back of my head and back of my neck was really itchy (still is) and I did my best to leave it alone. I woke up this am and my FEET/ankles were itchy. Now 6 hours later, I have red welts all over my legs all the way up to my butt cheeks! Ugh. I think I need to take a cool bath, but it will have to wait until hubbo gets home with dd...they went to go see the IMAX-3D version of Monsters vs Aliens. SH*T it itches like crazzzy!
-
Gina are you sure you are not having a allergic reaction
-
My brother got two tattoos when he was in college - each time I think he was two sheets to the wind, so to speak. Each on the inside of an ankle (ouch!). One is his fraternity symbol (good grief) the other is Tweetie Bird (good grief). He obsessed about Tweetie Bird and ended getting ANOTHER tattoo over the top of poor Tweetie to cover it up. Now its just a blue/wavy/sting-ray mess.
-
Well, it has been 8 days since Tx #2. Last time with the ichy hands they said I could take benadryl to see if it helped, it just knocked me out. I can't do that right now becuase it is just me at my little man at home.
I talked to the nurses and my onco about the ichy hands, they said usually the allergic reactions to the drugs are expereinced within 24 hrs...anything beyond that isn't an allergic reaction..but a side effect.
-
The whelps sound so scary.
-
Hi All,
Gina , too bad about your allergic reaction.Have you called the doctor or taken benedryl?
MOB- I guess tattoos are the modern way to go. When I was young, a very long time ago only sailors got tattoos that said Mom. Now so many do. I guess things could be worse. I am sure we all know what things do matter now....
On a lighter note...Just wanted to share a picture of my two cats which I just took. I know many of you are pet fanciers. Enjoy. Murphy is the sweet girl( black and white). She went to where poor Karl, the boy was sleeping to annoy him. Just like a women. I caught them with her arms around him. So cute. Don't worry they are neutered..
Hugs,
Francine
-
Gina,
You do look too good for this board. Really great picture and wig..
I believe they do have benedryl etc in a non drowsy formular..
Hugs,
Francine
-
buddy1... Yep, once it starts... it just keeps coming out.
Francine... Very cute picture.
Gina... I had a similar reaction. Mine was on the palms and wrists, a couple of places on my buttocks, and on the inside of my legs. My palms and wrists looked liked a burn whereas the other places kinda looked like insect bites. My onc said the same thing... probably not an allergic reaction because it was a good week past my tx. I took some benadryl which I think helped the itching. What really helped though was using some "Aquaphor". It helped a lot. I even used some calamine lotion the first night.
-
I was going to get a tatoo for my 50th birthday, wanted my 18 year old daughter to get a small one with me. I wanted one on my foot, told her to get one somewhere unobvious. We are both needlephobs
, so she outright said no way and I just procrastinated. I guess this BC will make me less of a needlephob and maybe I won't procrastinate when this is all over and get one when we are allowed to. Miami Ink really made me realize their are some really great stories behind the reason some do get inked.
NYDEB - Same with you on the wig, I have been embracing the bald also. I like the buffs and have been living in them when not at work, no matter where else I go.
-
PattiB... I think the ones on the feet hurt the worse. OUCH!
Question... Does everyone have their blood tested the day before chemo? I'm worried, even though I got the Neulasta shot, that something will be too low/too high and I'll be delayed. Is the day before standard for blood testing?
-
I usually get my blood taken the day before chemo. My appot with my onc. is about 2 hours after I give blood. Next time however, my next chemo is April 14th at 1:30. My appt with my onc is the same day at 9 am so I have to be at the hospital by 7 is order to get blood taken. Going to be a long day. The reason it is this way the next time is because they are closed on the Monday, April 13th because of Easter Monday so they are squeezing it all on one day.
-
I get my blood tested one week after chemo. The same day I see my Onc. They also check it the day of chemo, right before I get it. I think the scale is pretty loose. I was 2200 and still was able to get mine. I hear it take the shot up to 14 days to kick in.
-
I get my blood counts weekly and the day I have chemo. It takes a second, they do a finger stick and process it right there in front of me......prints out my report right then and there.....my WBC went way up because of the decadron this last go round.....Day of chemo they also do a full CBC and apparently they now need to adjust my premeds because my glucose was too high. I guess we will talk about that next week when I go in for my 1 week check/bloodwork.
Does anyone know when the "leg hair" fairy is coming? I am lebanese and quite hairy in places and would have no problem with a free leg waxing but so far NOTHING. Just my luck. Probably won't loose this hair. Of course the hair on my head is another story.
hugs,
Diane
