LCIS Rollercoaster

I'm back! Yesterday I met with my BS and thought we were just going to talk about my recent mammogram, which appeared just fine to me (I was get a copy of medical reports sent to me). I figured that we would create a plan for vigilant follow-up while I gave more thought to a PBM. Well, she did an ultrasound, found a couple of areas that were concerning to her, then she decided that I would need another core needle biopsy. She found a 'sparkly' area with a rough edge on/in a cyst. I don't know what that all means, but it doesn't sound good.Whatever it is it did not show up on recent mammogram or MRI.

In my head I had decided that I would do vigilant follow-up until I had to have more biopsies. So, I am wondering if that rollercoaster ride of more biopsies is starting. Now I am pretty sure that I will do a PBM - not sure when. BS said that she is giving her patients the choice of doing SNB during PBM. She said for every 1000 SNB they find one cancer. She also said that there is the risk of swelling. Now that I am opening my mind to the PBM I am learning more about the risks. Can anyone shed any light on the SNB and how that went for them.

And, are there any books you might recommend for someone who is trying to decide about the PBM? This is truly the hardest decision I have ever had to face.

China Mom - I am so sorry that you continue to face these issues! I didn't have an SNB, so I can't help you w/ that. My MD did not feel that the risk of node involvement was very high w/ LCIS. I also don't know of any books that might help. The thing that helped me the most was threads on the LCIS forum where other women were coming to terms with their decision. I am sending gentle hugs your way! - Jean

    Chinamom,

I had SNB when I had my PBM and I had no swelling. She only took one node from each side.

I know it's the worst decision you ever had to make. The surgery isn't as bad you think. My surgery was 12 weeks ago and I feel great. No regrets. I'm glad I did it because now I have peace of mind. Best of Luck.

    Hi,

I'm on that same LCIS rollercoaster.  I had my MRI last week.  They found enhancements and I will have core needle biopsies on April 13th.
