Crafts after BC is good for the soul

Hi Cora,
I tried to copy the picture of the doilie angel here .. but it didn't work. So I copied the link.
Thanks,
Bren
-
BinVA, the link you posted is for the larger sized angels and these might be a little too big for a card. The smaller ones are perfect for putting in or on cards and are cheaper! Here's a sample of what I did on a 5x7 sized card. It's more primitive looking, as that's the style I like to work with:
-
Hi Cora ... yep, that's exactly what I was thinking of.
Can you tell me the item number for the small ones, so I can order off your website page?
Thanks so much!!
Bren

Nelia. Thank you for sharing your blog.
I enjoy reading it very much.
You are so creative but also share your concerns and anxious moments.
Those feelings will stay with us for the rest of our lives due to the journey we have all been put on but like you I try to live each day. month. year with creative and fun ways to fill my life and my family.
The picture on your blog of the old washer is exactly like one we have in one of our old barns on our farm.
I was trying to find a picture of it to share but couldn't. Yours is exactly like it.
I bookmarked your blog so that I may continue to enjoy it.
Spar. Where are you dear creative one with a zillion ideas and wonderful crafts? Glass beads of magic and wreaths of welcome.
Lisa. If you take a peek into this thread I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
At home here we are enjoying Sunshine big time. Birds all over the place.
Big Oyster weekend a head so lot's of planning and preparations for the travelers who drive up HWY 1 from the Bay Area.
Blue sky and warm temps make for a very happy family trek.
I am almost finished with the baby quilt I'm crocheting for our family friend who is due any moment.
Jazz. The quilt you posted is beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
Please share your amazing talents. They are incredible.
I like to use the old post cards I've collected for recycled card fronts.
At Christmas I use the previous years cards as name tags for presents.

Recycle is the name of the game. And fun too. As we all know.
Springtime...and the Livin' Is GOOD!
Bonne Journée!

I am so happy people are enjoying this thread. I love it and hope to learn a lot and hopefully give back also. The fuzzy white flip flops on the first page, I gave them to my daughter today and she loved them and asked me to make her a black pair also. I have 2 knitting projects going right now and can't wait for my next lesson, she is teaching me how to make houseshoes and socks. If there is time dish rags.
Sahalie, I definately live green and try to recycle all possible things. I need to get my wreath finished so I can post it. I am about out of sea shells that I have found and may have to resort to buying some. I am out of sea glass and won't be at the beaches to look until June so may have to order some off the internet. Have not seen sea glass at any stores.
Everyone- goodcrafting. Gotta learn to make quilts, if I can ever get the tension right on my sewing machine. Brand new and haven't been able to use it, the thread keeps breaking and can't get the tension right.
-
JO, I'll post if for you if you like. Here is some of JO-5's jewelry...

-
JO. Do you have your pictures on your digital camera? If so you can
1. Upload them to your own computer
2. Then copy and paste them to Word or a non addressed email
3. Then copy and paste each one here by clicking on the little clipboard with the T on it and hit "paste"
4. Picture size for this window should be no larger than 500 X 500 but if it's larger don't worry about it as it happens to all of us.
Some times that works. Some times not but it's worth the try. I've used that method.
Good Luck ! I would sure love to see your crafts. They all sound lovely.
Oh a Thomas Kincade needlepoint. Must be beautiful.
Spar. I get the sewing tension blues with my machine now and then. Bummer.
I meant to mention. I went to a baby shower a couple weeks ago and the grandmother made home made crocheted wash cloths for the baby. I have never seen such a thing. Neat. She said just never use wool.
I just found out * March is National Craft Month. Did you all know this?

*
Spar. This sings your name. I love this.

Sahalie
-
I had no idea about national craft month but wow, glad there is one and we found out now and your right that does have my name on it. I bought a huge plain clay pot and I am going to use the stuff you put on ceramic tile and place a lot of my treasures, old pins, buttons, colored glass, rocks, small toys, marbles. It is going to be very special and very colorful. Can't wait to get started on it. Even old earrings where I have lost one, will be on it. Here is the craft I wanted you to see. It is a windchime but it is hanging on my wall since I don't have a new porch yet.
It is an old tin plate with 3 holes drilled in the bottom and 2 at the top. At the top just plain wire is used to hang it on the bottom is beads on fishing line and then through old silverware Which has a tiny hole drilled in them. Now I will try to post the picture.

I haven't found any where that sells metal dishes anymore but can find them at flea markets and goodwill places like that. You can get just plain silver in camping kits.
Tonight I made a framed picture from a 40 cent piece of paper I bought from hobby lobby and a 1.50 frame from the dollar store and a picture I printed out on the computer. I will try to take a picture of it tomorrow and see if it takes. Good crafting girls!!!
-
WOW JO. I like them all but especially the first one (blue) on the top display. You do beautiful work. The works are amazing.
Jazz. You get the blue ribbon for posting JO's works. Thanks muchu much.
Photobucket and Jazz are much better ways to post pictures than the way I suggested. My way doesn't work 3/4 of the time anyway.
Beautiful bead work JO.
I'm off to la la land. Waving to you each. G'Night friends.

PEACE *
Sahalie

Oh, I so enjoy reading thsi thread. So peaceful.
Cora, I just love those angels!!
Jo, your jewwlry is so pretty!
Jaz,beautiful wall hanging.
Sapr, love the look of the metal plate
Sahalie, I save all my cards. I use them as gift tags and sometimes you just get ones that would look beautiful framed and that's what I do.Some look so awesome.Thispast Christmas, since I was really feeling the economy crunch, I used fronts of my christmas cards and sent them as postcards. It saved on postage for me. And some I used as gift tags.
Jaz,, one night I am gonna sit myself down and learn to post pics!!!
Have a good night!
Hugs and prayers

Here is my Lion picture I made for very little money. I did't count right on that plate it is 5 holes don't know why I said 3.
JO-5, my favorite is the 3rd one on the black board, the blues. all of them are beautiful but that one really caught my eye. Everyone has such different taste.
Jaz, that was nice of you to post them for JO and I have missed you much today even though I haven't had much computer time.
Sahalie, as cold as it is here today to see that glass vase with flowers brought a smile to my face, our spring is right around the corner.
I have saved all my cards of everykind for years but never knew what to do with them just knew I couldn't get rid of them but wow using them as post cards to keep in touch and framing them are wonderful ideas
How I would love to see a Thomas Kincade needlepoint. His pictures are so brillant
Everyone have a good weekend.
-
So nice to find you all. I followed someone here...
I love all arts, all crafts. I watercolor whenever I can. I love quilting and all the friends it had brought into my life. Playing with fabrics is the best. I like to think about all the things I want to do with those fabrics. That's my favorite part.
May I show you the quilt I made for my grandson who is now nine months old?

closer up

Kaffe Fassett fabric. I did it on the machine cause I wanted to take it along when I went up to Boston for his birth.
Here's the quilt top my daughter made for me, such a surprise, I didn't even know she was piecing. She had always made a little fun of me and my addiction to fabric. Now she's been stung.

and this is one I made for a little girl I met in Iran, her name is Donia, that means "the whole world." Imagine naming your daughter "the whole world." I guess that's what our children mean to us, isn't it?

the little doll is appliquéd. That's what I like doing most these days, appliqué.
So, thank you for being here. Isn't it wonderful that surprising, maybe unwelcome events in our lives bring us in contact with wonderful people? That's what I see in you.
Anna
-
Anna,
Your quilts are absolutely beautiful! I too love fabric and must stay out of the fabric store or come home with stuff I don't need. I tend to work in pinks and greens and have to really work to get out of my comfort zone. I'll try to take some pictures of some of my quilts. I have been really working with a different method called Cotton Theory, where you piece and quilt a reversable block that is then put together using decorative stitches or zig-zag, so you have a totally complete quilt when finished without having to machine or hand quilt the big large one at the end. It's so much easier to work in small sections and the quilts come out really neat. I've made 3 runners but have not done a large quilt yet. The hard part for me is picking out the coordinating fabrics for each side! I've been trying to use my stash BUT where is the fun in that?
This site is so filled with very talented and creative artists and I have been very blessed to be able to share their creations. I look forward to seeing more. Oh, and I got 2 envelopes of purple from the quilt tree today. It was so fun to open them and it was amazing to see how all these swatches are going to go together. Oh well, what's another project to add to the list, hehe.
Blessings,
Wendy

Good afternoon fellow crafters! I'm home from a weekend of craft shop/quilt shop hopping. I did well and resisted spending too much money but I did find the perfect project to work on for Christmas. I would show you a sample but that would spoil the surprise.
Anna, those quilts are absolutely gorgeous!
Sparbiedoll, I love the wind chime. You come up with the most clever ideas. You are a true creative artist.
Sunkist, I've got some 6" purple squares all ready to go out to you on Monday. I cut them a hair bigger since sometimes my measuring tends to be off. I hope you can use them.
JO, I love your jewelry!
Candie, I will be happy to post pictures for you if you like.
Sahalie, I love the card/postcard idea. I think of all the cards I have tossed away in my decluttering attemps. Going to start saving them now.
-
Jazzy girl, it is so good to see you are home safe and sound. But boy, did I want to know every single thing you found and bought. You know me and my curiosity.
Anna, so glad you found us here. The quilts are just beautiful. I do want to learn to quilt. Jazzy, I am ready to hop in the car and come spend a couple of days with you and teach me to make a lion, leopare, cheetah, zebra, quilted wall hanging for my bedroom. I have nothing on the wall and that is what I want.
JO, I can never find a necklace the right length for my birthday I may have to order you to make me one, cause when you make them it can be any length right?
I am into knitting scarfs right now since Jaz don't need my 7 x 9 yet (I do have some ready to mail though) and I am going to buy some of the iron on names to make the for each individual person. You can even get bling iron ons to make names, or I could sew small pretty buttons into a name. Anyway all kinds of ways to make them unique. My grandson was watching me this weekend and ask me to make him a scarf that one end is candy apple red and the other end is white for next year's football season. that is the Davis colors.
The lady that teaches me knitting was working at the church today also and she is going to teach me to make house slippers and dish rags this coming week.
Everyone have a wonderful week. Lots of love, laughter, and good crafting.
-
Hi Spar,
Sure wish OK wasn't so far from MI. I would love to have you come, stay in my guest room and teach you some quilting. I'm thinking about holding small groups of 1-3 students here at home and teaching quilting. That is after I finish the 4 tops I have in various stages of contruction!
Thank you Jas for putting together the purple squares. It will make whatever I end up doing all the more special. You are a very special woman and I feel blessed to have met you here. I wish I could have gone with you on your shop-hopping; sounds like you had a great time. I know I would have spent way too much on fabric that I don't need. Wait, we ALL need more fabric. What can I be saying!!!!!
I would like to chat more but need to get to the hospital to see DH. He had a slight stroke at some point on Saturday and had the tests to confirm this AM. He was waiting for the neuro doc to give him the results and what they plan to do to keep him from having another one. He still has some residual weakness in the left arm but it is way better than it was yesterday.
You are all so incredibly talented and gifted. I really look forward to seeing everyone's pictures.
Have a great day and happy crafting!
Blessings,
Wendy
-
Oh Wendy, I'm so sorry to read about your DH. Many prayers going up that he recovers quicly and they can work to prevent any more in the future. Gentle hugs.
-
Wendy, so sorry about your DH. Hope he feels better today.
Jaz, how can u do it for me?
The quilts that are posted are so pretty.
-
Wendy. Please check in when you get back home.
I pray your dh will be alright. This must be a scary time for both of you.
I'll be thinking of you till we hear from you.

All of you are so very talented. JO your jewerly is so beautiful and each one different.
When do you find the time. You all are always crafting. I envy you those creative energies.
Anna. Your quilts are snuggalishous. You know what I just watched again and I love it.
The movie "How to Make An American Quilt"
I love when the women are all sitting around their quilting table finishing up the amazing quilt
and it shows how each woman goes back in memory to the time of the fabric they are using
and the remembrance of what happened during that time.
Then when the quilt is placed over Winona Ryder as she sleeps then she wraps herself up
in it and runs thru the orchard following the bird to her bf in his VW bus.
Love that movie.
Hi Candie. I'm so happy to see you reading and posting here.
As for the card saving. I'm a cardaholic so I have tons. When in need I also use my
pinking sheers to cut them to paste onto layers.
If you receive cards with pop up deco's on them be sure to save those too.
They come in handy for small tags. I can't believe what stores are charging for the smallest
of tags these days. Even more than a card normal size used to cost.
I love home made anything so keep just about everything.
Thank goodness for Rubber Maid containers.
Jazz. How fun to see all those wonderful crafts this past weekend. Did you come home
with some good fun ideas?
Sparbabes. You amaze me in your vast array of crafts you make. It truly is therapeutic.
For me anyway. Also gardening.
Watercolors are my forte'

This is not one of my works but I love it. It's called "American Quilt"
No relation to the above mentioned movie. I love this as it depicts a similar
area in California where I live.
WENDY. THINKING OF YOU. PRAYING FOR YOU AND DH.

Below is just a silly fun share.

You know what I would like to try in the next few weeks is to find some soft translucent
chiffon of spring colors to drape over my gigantic deck table umbrella.
Kind of like a soft chiffon scarf over a lamp shade.
What do you think?
If I actually do accomplish this I will take a photo to share.
I just think the sun coming thru such a gentle chiffon over the umbrella would be so pretty.
Especially having dinner outside with and or a glass of wine.
More later. Now I'm stoked to try this.
Sahalie
-
Wendy will be thinking of you and dh until we hear. Am praying for healing.
Oh Sahalie, we are more alike than you can imagine. I have some of those jars with those kinds of lids that I have been using for candy's just because they look pretty in them and also coffee beans. What colors did you have in mind for draping your deck umbrella and how to hold it down when it is windy (staples? double back tape? glue?) I say do it and send us a picture. Can't wait to see it.
I love that water color and would love to see some of yours.
Jazz, are you working hard or are you doing crafts? Can't wait to see what you got or what your making from your shopping trip, it keeps twirling around in my hear. I am going to post another craft I am learning in a bit. Got to take a picture then I will post it. Man! I love you ladies.
-
Wendy- I am so sorry to hear about dh. My prayers are with you both for a quick, easy and uneventful recovery with no lasting side effects! I pray you find strength to care for yourself so you are able to care for dh.
Anna- quilts are lovely
-
Dear friends,
Well, we're home. DH passes the "arm" test and it's not drooping at all. He's tired but being in the hospital is not a good place to get any sleep or rest. The docs have put him on one asprin a day with his other meds for a month. They will reevaluate it at that time. I feel really blessed. Gonna run and get dinner made so thank you for all the kind thoughts.
Blessings,
Wendy
-
Yea! Praise the Lord!!!!!! He will be OK.
Sahalie, I had to come back and post something for you. You know how much I loved my duck. Well today DH built me a large duck cage that I can walk in and play with them and tomorrow night we are going to Atwood after oncology appt and buy some ducks. I am so excited to see what kind of personalities they turn up with. I am going to buy them a kids pool of their own this time so they don't swim in the grandkids pool.
Hi EWB
-

Edited to make the picture smaller
this knitted object is called a cacoon or woombie, have you guys ever seen one. It is for babies to go out in the cold and don't have to worry about their blanket blowing open with the wind or their ears getting cold or hats falling off. I know this doll is old and ugly so ignore it. It is one of the first cabbage patch dolls that came out when my 33 year old daughter was a little girl. I think they are so cool and they are on my project list.
-
JO, you are close....you link is missing the actual picture name with the .jpg extension. Move your mouse over the picture in photobucket and the four links will appear UNDERNEATH the selected picture. Use those links. The link you have posted above is the link to the ALBUM not the picture inside the album. Just one step further and you will have it.
-
No, don't type the url I gave you, paste the link that is underneath the picture on photobucket. The link I gave you is only to the 'album' not the individual pictures.
-
Sounds like a perfect idea Spar. Our ducks are only out when we are home otherwise they
have a five star enclosure to protect them.
None of our doggies are allowed near them. As you know. You never know.
This if off the internet but looks almost exactly like our duck enclosure.
Ours is covered over the top and around all sides with huge stones around the perimeter
to keep out fox and skunk preditors.
We have the top covered due to hawks swooping down and trying to take them that way.
Poor ducks and chickens need all the protection we can give them.
We have geese that are the size of Buicks. Hilarious.
I love ducks and chickens. The eggs the hens lay are so much better than store bought.
As for the umbrella. I'm thinking like a light tan with oranges. greens and blue design to
drape over the umbrella.
Can you picture it?
The perfect fabric I would use are the Pareo's or Batik's. So full of vibrant color.

Fastening it will be something like gromets or if the fabric is too delicate which is the look
I want. Then I will fasten with some cute clips that maybe Pier One will have or a craft shop.
Clips in different colors would be cute and useful. Plus make it easy to remove the drape in
windy weather or rain.
I'm kind of getting excited to create this.
As for length I would have the drape just come over the edge of the umbrella only about a foot.
I may have to sew two lengths together.

Wendy. Thank goodness you are home and dh is OK. Prayers do work.
I hope you both take it easy. Rest is the name of the game.

I love fabric. I know we all do.
Here it is. Voila' I knew the Balinese would have them.

Only mine would be lighter so a little more sun could get thru.
I would also use a netting that has been designed. Tie dye would work.

Aren't these colors gorgeous.
Lunch is over so it's back to work for me. And thoughts of crafts.
XOXO.
Sahalie
-
Ladies, we have a new picture poster!!!! She even resized it!
-
Wendy, I'm so glad to hear your hubs is home and on the mend.
Happy to know you are now a poster, Jo.
Sahalie, what if you used the same very soft, transluscent fabric to make ties along your cover and attached it to the unbrella that way? I just love the look of all those thirties fabrics you posted. I have explained it to my hubs: I am a fabric collector. The fact that five additional lifetimes would not suffice to make enough quilts to use up my fabric stash is of no importance whatsoever. Collectors collect. Gotta keep current.
How I love to play in my fabric stash and dream.......
-
JO - I don't know if this will help or not - I just go to the picture I want and right click it and hit copy. Then I come to this site and right click to paste. It usually works. So if you have your photos on your computer go to the photo and follow instructions above.
Let me know if it works for you.
