Yay Not-Me! That makes 14 members and another survivor! Let's go Wings of Hope!!!

1:00 works for me on Saturday.  Is that enough time for you?  I know you have a long drive to Chelsea.

I just read that the 50/50 raffle idea may not work out....

"Please note that all games of chance require a license from the Charitable Gaming Division of the State of Michigan. Contact the Race Office for details."

I'll write Race Lady Jan and see what is involved.  The license may be more than I'm able to collect.

Judy - I don't know how I missed these great pictures from the Komen site...

I had to take the pictures out.  I guess I was busted for hot linking them. Maybe they are copyright protected?

Nancy - I am fine with pictures but next time could you air brush me and take off about 20 pounds! lol I am working on upgrading my Wings sign.

I plan on signing up for race soon. Mr. Wings will not be joining us this yr. I am putting him on baby watch just in case.... even though DD not due until June.

If Common Grill does not take reservations I can go early and reserve tables. I think I am about 50 minutes away.

April 4 at 1:00 we have the following:

    JudyRock

    Wendy

    Sue

    Nancy

    Neesie

    Chris

    Hi Ladies:

Sounds like the plans for the luncheon are coming along . . . I'm sorry I won't be able to make it since I now have a Large astronaut's (:) boot on my right foot - so absolutely no driving, of course.I start therapy on 4/14 and after either 4-6 weeks I can walk in a normal shoe.  At last!!

Judy: Sure hope things are getting better for you (and your dear daughter)!!  Wow, pulmonary embolism then pneumonia . . .  enough is enough already, right??  As if doing chemo wasn't enough!!  Glad to hear you are switching doctors/hospitals for your daughter.  Prayers coming that they can finally figure this out.  In the meantime, enjoy your pond and baby fish :):)

Chris: Thanks for the kind words.  Yes I began (just today) to be able to walk on this huge boot.  The going is a little awkward but I know it will get better!!  What wonderful news about your coming grandbaby . . . yes, they are absolutely the best.  I have:  Reilly (girl) 3 3/4), Connell (boy) 3 1/2), Quinn (boy) 2 in Jan and Isabella who will be 1 in May.  The only down side is tha the two boys live in the Chicago area and the two girls are in Milwaukee - sure wish they were all closer but it could be worse, right - it  could be California or Colorado!!!

Lastly, but certainly not least - Nancy - thanks for thinking of me.  Yes, I did pass my 6th year anniversary last May (May 23,2003).  I know yours is right near that time too, isn't it Nancy??  Congratulations and continued blessings.  The happy dance is comin' right back at 'cha!!!

Just wanted to add to Denise - hope your hubby is doing ok.  Wow, so sorry to hear about it.

Well, hugs to all and maybe I really will be able to may the NEXT luncheon.  :):):)

      Good afternoon sisters,

Anytime after noon is fine w/me.  Hasn't been a great weekend.  Just waiting to hear from DH, altho I think I'm just going to head over there, the hospital.  He had a "slight" stroke at some point on Saturday.  Luckily I was still awake when he came up at 12:05 am Sun.  He said he had fallen asleep on the couch and his fingertips were tingling as was the left side of his face.  I had just taken my Ambien to fall asleep so I hadn't started feeling the effects yet, but then he said he was slightly nauseated and his head "felt funny".  The covers went off and I had him in the car to the ER.  They did a CAT scan right away and nothing showed up.  About 3 1/2 years ago, he had a PE and a total of 3 clots but has been on Coumadin.  The ER doc came in and started with "the tingling in the fingertips could be from carpal tunnel and the nausea from a GI bug".  I was ready to head to a different hospital.  I'm a lay person and I KNEW in my head and heart that he had had some type of stroke.  However, then the doc went on to say that taken separately, the symptoms could be explained but when taken ALL TOGETHER, there was a more serious problem.  He did a stress test Sun. AM which was fine, but still was exhibiting weakness in the left arm (he had dropped the toilet seat in his room) so they admitted him.  They did an MRI, an echogram and carotid artery dopler test this AM and I am waiting to hear what the results are.  I am having a hard time.  The neurologist saw him and confirmed that he DID have a stroke but she thought there would be no damage or residual effects.

In fact, he just called, and is chomping at the bit to come home.  Still has some, very little, weakness in the left arm.  My big question is, WHY did it happen and what are they going to do to stop it from happening again.

It was awful last night.  It was my son's last recital; he's a trumpet performance major at Western Michigan Univ., for the semester and the last time this particular group will play together.  Rick was ready, and tried really hard to convince the docs, to let him check out and attend the performance and then return last last night.  Luckily, the docs said "no", but it was really a shock to son when I told him what had happened.  I'm not sure I could have lied well enough to make up something as to why his dad wasn't there, when he had attended everything he has ever performed.  DH was fine all evening and nothing more happened, but that doesn't mean it couldn't have.  I could have been driving along I-94 and he could have had another stroke and I'd be at some obscure exit.  I ended up going by myself and recorded it for him.

I should probably get going and see him.  Hopefully I'll be there when the neuro doc gets there and I can get all my questions answered.  Thanks friends for letting me get this out and I'll try to update when I get results.

I look forward to Sat and seeing everyone.  Take care.

      Blessings,

      Wendy

Sorry about your hubby Wendy. I'm sending all the best for a speedy recovery.

Geri is going to try and join us Saturday.  That would make 8 Sue.  Thanks for making the reservations.  I went to Chelsea Monday and though I didn't see the building, It is somewhere on the West side of the road.  It looks like you take the cross street to the back to park.  Many of the streets are one way and no left turns if you are coming from the South (M52 hwy) so be careful of that. Knowing me, I'll have to pass it a few times and turn around.

We are getting many donations to the Team.  Be sure to thank your friends and family for that.

I just go a message back from RaceLadyJan about doing the 50/50 raffle.  I'd need a gaming license through Komen and that will not happen.  I asked at work also and they could not help me.  The license takes 6 weeks anyway.  Now, it is possible that it is legal if no cash is exchanged.  I'm going to look for the loophole.  I'll report back if I find it!

Our reservation is 1:00 at Common Grill, under the name of Sue, for 8 people.

Common Grill is in the middle of the block, on the left side of the street, if you head into downtown from I-94 and take the Jackson Rd exit. Parking is hideous, so I recommend that you go into the lot behind the restaurant (turn left at the courthouse) and go in through the back door.

I will be eating their rolls. They are, truly, the best I have ever eaten.

Can hardly WAIT to see you all.

      Sue

Not-Me - sorry you have to bail and about the funerals.  Maybe we can catch up again just before the race to distribute t-shirts.  Speaking of t-shirts, where is IRENE???  I don't have facebook so if anyone is active there, could you give here a ping and tell her to check in?

I got this link from our most talented Kats.  To our newbies, Kats from Chicago was really active with Wings of Hope and made our first head boppers, signs and a video after the race.  Miss you Kats and wish you could come back to Michigan for the walk!

      for our bird lovers:  http://s36.photobucket.com/albums/e16/kats54/?action=view&current=HummingbirdPhotoStory1.flv

I'm looking forward to tomorrow.  I'm eating light today so I can ...oink - excuse me.. eat heartily tomorrow.

Since my 50/50 raffle keeps hitting a dead-end at work, I'm planning a bake sale.  People in my department have offered to help bake and I hope to sell the goodies in the building.  I'll let you know how it goes.

Edited to note:  I'm not sure why the video doesn't come up from this link but it does take you to Kat's album and her public pics are wonderful.  I hope she doesn't mind that I shared them.

p.s. We now have 17 Team members.  Yay Wings of Hope!

Irene and I have this thing where we - sorta have a phone phobia.  We don't talk on the phone to anyone and will avoid it at all costs.  In my defense, I can't hear so, the gaps where I'm trying to figure out what the person said are uncomfortable. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

There are a bunch of us like this - yes, we are among you normal functioning people who just pick up a phone like it's a normal conversation.  You may never know if the person next to you is a phone-a-phobe!

So, Irene - don't make me call you, I swear I will!

I don't think I have Susie Lou's number but I'll hunt for it and let Neesie call her!!! I'm not sure Maureen is online?  How about our West side ladies - Linda and others?

      Wendy and Sue:

I just googled the map for driving directions. I was going to take 275 south to 94. BUT- it looks like for yougals it would be faster and a bit shorter to take 275 south to M14. M14 hits 94 the other side of Ann Arbor. Looks like that would be better than going all the way down to 94 at 275 then angling back up.

      See everyone at 1:00!

Chris: So sorry for your loss. We'll miss you at lunch (((hugs)))

      OK ladies,

I feel like I'm being conspired against!  Woke up with temp and rolling tummy.  I'll wait until last minute but unless I feel ALOT better, I'm not going anywhere but back and forth to the bathroom.  Aarrgh.  I was really looking forward to seeing everyone but I guess not this time.  Hopefully it will work out that DH and I will be doing the walk on the 30th.  There is a possibility I will be going to CA to work on uniforms for Blue Devils, the drum and bugle corps that DS will be marching with this summer but they will be letting me know exactly when they need me.

If I'm not there at 1:00, I'm still in bed!  Just in case, have a wonderful lunch.  Even the thought of food doesn't feel good.  We ate at Max & Erma's last night.  I wonder if it was something I ate there?  It all tasted great at the time.  Oh well, I hope someone is on the thread that is going so it doesn't look like I just didn't show.  I'll come if at all possible but I also don't want to give anything to anyone.  Food poisoning doesn't usually come with a temp.  I just can't seem to get warm; I'm laying here with a heating pad on high and 2 quilts on over my regular covers.  I'm still shaking!

Have fun MI sisters.  My heart is with you.

Wendy, So sorry you are feeling punky.  I hope it passes quickly.  Of course we will have more get-togethers and catch you at the next one.

I heard from Irene.  The ole' phone trick always works with her!   She was busy with her step daughter-in-law's baby shower and behind on the usual stuff.  She also lives really far from Chelsea. She is joing the team though and we will catch up with her when we meet again a little North/East.

About taking M14, there is a spot where it is not obvious you are still on M14 where it follows M14/23S.  Also, just before that, is 23S.  Look at a map before making the treck so there are no surprises. Hope I catch you before you leave the house.

      Soon....

Denise, JudyRock, Nancy, Geri, Sue - Great to see you.

Had a fun time at lunch. Food was awesome.

Denise - So glad you could join us as we know what a rough time this is for you and DH. Hoping for better days ahead for both of you.

I did not get home until 7:00! Stopped in Jackson and did some shopping. Nancy did you stop into Kohl's? They had some good sales yesterday.

      Hi Chelsea Bunch,

I also had a great time yesterday.  Yep Wings, I stopped at Kohl's and stocked up on basics to take advantage of the sales and my 30% off coupon.  I didn't realize there were stores in Jackson but it's been a long time since I've been out that way. Keep us posted on the grandbaby.

JudyRock, I should have been asking you if you need any help with the Race stuff.  I sit back and don't do much.  You guys are the talented ones and I really appreciate that.  Thanks for getting the "things" and great ideas.  I won't say what they are so the team will be surprised.  Let me know if I can do anything.

Geri - I told myself a dozen times to find out how your daughter is and I guess I went off yacking about something else.  How is she doing?  Also, how are your parents?

Sue, did you talk your daughter in to joining us at the walk?  My friend Carol with the daughter around that age cannot make it due to some socker thing happening.  She should bring a friend.  Really, the crowds are thick with absolutely all ages.  One year we had Michelle from Howell (3Bears) with her huge family group - including one gentleman in his 90's!! He did the entire walk using his walker.  He was such an inspiration.

I am planning on making a web site of pictures of all the years we've done the race when I'm off.  Be warned, I've got pictures!

Neesie - I am crossing everything for Fred.  Please know that I am thinking of both of you and would like to do something to help.  If you need a cleaning brigade or some kind of help around the house, let us know.  Will travel with broom.  I guess I do resemble someone who might fly with a broom!

Wendy - how are you feeling today?

Sounds like you all had a great time at the luncheon.  I was at that restaurant about six month ago...and thought it was very good.  Yum, yum.  Sadly...I did have two funerals...my best friend's mom and my cousin.  My cousin was a shock...she had a massive heart attack and was on life support for 4 days.  She was just at my daughter's wedding a little over a month ago...and I will miss her.  Two funerals and an upper repiratory infection at the same time, and working and covering the department right now.  Ugh!

I love the website idea...we sure do have some good times at the walk.  This will be the fourth year...correct?  I hope we get good weather that day.  I think we only have a few more weeks to get team members signed up...lets all make a grand effort and maybe we can get "that" award this year.

Denise-I hope your husband is okay.

      Hi Ladies,

Checking in from the West.  I am so sorry I missed your lunch.  I have been in Ann Arbor for the better part of the past 2 weeks.  My grandson had an appendectomy and it had ruptured.  He was in Mott's Children's Hospital.  And at 5 he was pretty sick.  He was in twice.  But doing a bit better now, but still having pain off and on from bladder spasms I guess.  So I've been at my daughter's helping out.  It seems every time you have a lunch, I can't get there.  I'll keep trying.  When is your race?  Our Kalamazoo Race is May 16.  Our support group usually wins most survivors.  Sounds like several of you have been sick or family is sick or funerals.  So sorry to hear this.  Well, I hit my 2 year anniv.  See onc this week, but I already got my MRI results and all is well.  I've been busy with the Advocacy group lately and am planning to go to DC for lobby days.  Any of you going?  If yes, let me know so we can meet up.  Can't believe I'm now a lobbyist.  Never know what trail we'll head down next.

Take care all of you and hope I'll meet up with you sometime this Spring.  Yes, Spring!!!!! Linda

All Right LAdies- may I have your attention please!!!

I am making a pink "boa" for the walk. I'm having ribbons with "in honor of" and "in memory of" on them.

Ex: I have one for my Mom that says "In memory of My Mom", to tie onto the boa.

I would like all your input as to whose names you would like me to add.

I already have in memory of Alaska Deb (Clonan) and Kay (Fancy) Galipeau.

I also have one In Honor of JudyB.

Please let me know who you would like to add and They will have their own ribbon on the walk boa.

      thanks.

Could you put in 'Honor of' or 'in Support' of Beverly?   Beverly is one of the ladies on our team's mother.  She had lymphoma (NHL) for many years and just found out she has breast cancer.  The is Lori's mom.

I don't know if anyone remembers Sprite but she was the first person I was connected to that we lost.  Of course, the angels list has so many more.  But, it would be nice to have 'in memory of Sprite'.

      Great idea Judy - Thanks!

Linda and jrgolomb and the West-side ladies, nice to hear from you. We always just miss having the most survivors each year.  Maybe this year will be the one.   Can you give more details about D.C - Linda?  When are Lobby days?

      Nancy
